  1. just to play devils advocate here: if the WNE goes into effect, dont you think those low jump people who are hell bound to try swooping will just try it with larger canpies? reading the incident reports it seems that the deaths/injuries associated with low turns are about 60:40 intentional to panic turns. hell, i could probably get a decent swoop from my 190 if i got on the front risers or hooked it (i have no interest at this time so thats not gonna happen). as we have seen from the incident reports from '04, you can spiral in under a 280 and still kill yourself. just a thought. 2. This is a function of your training, as well as the canopies you had been previously jumping, and not related to WL. If your student canopies were clapped out F-111 (like mnay student canopies), you would be hard pressed to have a nice landing on them. If you were given a Sabre 210 (as opposed to your 190) I'm sure that would have wroked just fine for you as well. i agree completely. actually it was going from a hybrid 210 where i could not feel the flare to zpo where the flare is obvious. my point was that the 190 was recommended to me by everyone i jump with. i am obviously w/l at over the conventional wisdom presented here (1.2:1). everyone progresses through the myriad of skills involved at a different pace. i am not against a w/l BSR necessarilly, but it should definitely be one that you can test out of. 3. its fake. the waves in a tsunami are never that close together due to the sheer volume of water involved. that photo shows the first wave hitting followed immediately by a second, much higher wave. it is generally accepted by tsunami specialists that the 3rd wave is the largest, and usually hits 3 to 8 minutes behind the 2nd wave (3 to 8 minutes between waves in a tsunami is the generally accepted timeframe). 4. just curious....what about those of us that jump at non-sanctioned DZs? we are very safety concious at my home DZ but not all BSRs are followed (actually all are except the minimum age). i jump a sabre 190 w/l @ about 1.2 - never had a standup landing until i jumped that canopy (recommended to me by my coaches, the DZO and the S&TAs). wouldnt a minimum w/l BSR just create a run to non-sanctioned DZs? 5. Skydive Hawaii on the North Shore is a beautiful DZ, very cool people there as well. i did 3 tandems there in July (my first 3 jumps). they have a KingAir and a Cessna 182 (i think its a 182). on my first two jumps it was windy and we got out about 3/4 mile over the ocean. absolutely beautiful...then add the mountains in the background - what else could you want? 6. the more the better. and the KingAir is a blast to jump, especially when you get that badass parabola to help you stand up right before exit....
  7. bump again hope the tullahoma folks show up....whos gonna be there? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  8. yeah you are right, i did forget that one. of course, all wuffos know that you can talk in freefall As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  9. just wanted to say thanks to all who offered advice. no problems so far with the sabre other than a spanking opening - flares beautifully, first time i have jumped a canopy i could feel the flare. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  10. suspension of disbelief works most time, but almost never with skydiving in movies. never unstows the breaks, doesnt flare, lands really softly for not flaring, lands under reserve really softly without flaring, etc. not as bad as Point Break where Keanu executes perfect deltas and participates in a 5 way RW flawlessly on his first jump with NO instruction, but still...gimme a break. 11. Not for beginners. I personally use one like it, and it flies as well as my Stiletto 135. i am way new to the sport but i seriously doubt that a round flies as well as a Stiletto. plus it has a slider, i have never seen a slider on a round. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  12. no Takillya for me, i will stick with the beer. and no, Chris, NO jello shots for me this time around thanks (although you were WAY more hung over than i was) As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

  14. hmmmm, i dont know about that. i almost always pull at 5 grand, and ever since i lost my tunnel vision i see ground rush on every jump that i look at the ground for more than five seconds or so. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. motorcycle helmets are not contoured enought to the face to jump for me. i no longer wear a fullface helmet on my bike but the ones i had i would never jump. keep in mind that many motorcycle helmets (if not all) will shatter if impacted with a lot of force - one of the major problems i have with helmet laws. 16. major crater potential - just watch out for the bathroom roof!!! maybe you can make it Billy, cross your fingers. Kristi, look forward to actually talking to ya if you make it. met you briefly at WTS about a month or so ago (maybe longer). i should have my A this weekend so maybe we can do a jump (talked to ya last night at the Pub). dan As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  17. good topic weege...i have to give props to Wyatt from Skydive Hawaii on Mauis North Shore. i did a tandem with him from the KingAir, landed, manifested again and then....well he got confused because he didnt expect me to be jumping again on the next load. he hooked up some hot chick in the harness, then figured out i was the one jumping (the hottie was on the load after me). as a result of it all he almost got into a fistfight with another tandem instructor for holding up the load...we made it a working tandem and did turns and canopy control. i got to wear an altimeter and pulled the ripcord at 5500. hey Wyatt if you read this PM me, i still have some questions about exactly what happened when i pulled...it was july 01 2004 i was the one with the tats on the shins....(no more elaboration) As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  18. hey Billy i dont think a frozen turkey would burst like a pumpkin... hopefully i will be done moving by then and be able to attend all 3 days... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  19. wow, lots of ways to pack this potential slammer... i packed it with the nose unrolled this weekend, grabbed all nine cells with the slider and shoved them to the center, made sure the brake lines were in the center, and packed it up. threw out at 5,500 or so, grabbed the rears and looked up...snivel snivel snivel snivel well maybe i should chop this......poof! canopy inflated fully about 3,000. nice soft opening, but not something i would have wanted on a hop-n-pop. best thing i can say about the Sabre is damn do i love the way it flies and flares. the flare alone makes it worth the risk of a slammer (to me anyways). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  20. fear is an odd emotion...i find it VERY interesting that for the vast majority of skydivers the fear was not a factor on the 1st jump. or the second, or third. it varies from person to person, but it seems that everyone experiences a point in their jumping when they get pretty petrified for a period of jumps. for me it was at jump 20ish, still getting over it. i think its because i no longer have the tunnel vision. my last 10 jumps have been working on tracking. my last jump (32) i did a rear floater exit, watched the plane fly away, turned at the bottom of the hill and started tracking. i held the track for a while, then came out of it to look at my altitude - thought i would be at about 6 grand (i like to pull about 4 grand)...nope. 10 grand. the nrest of the jump i just watched the groundrush, glancing at my altimeter every thousand feet or so, and thinking "fuck that ground is coming up fast". weird feeling watching groundrush for 6000 feet. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  21. actually you are kinda close DrunkMonkey. my last three vacations were Cambodia, Thailand, China, Myanmar (2002) Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey (2003), Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China (2004). havent been to Iraq yet, been close (about 1 mile from the border in Turkey). actually no plans for Iraq in the near future, too dangerous. however, i DO like to see things for mysellf and not rely on the media. you would be (pleasently) suprised if you ever visited Afghanistan.
  22. from what my muslim friends have told me, there is no smoking or sex during the entire period of Ramadan, day or night. you can break the fast when the sun goes down but theres no nookie allowed - or smoking. i actually cancelled my tip to Afghanistan because it was gonna be the middle of Ramadan and i didnt feel like dealing with it - besides, there is always next year..AND i used that money to buy a rig
  23. heh...i just removed all of my piercings (6 in all - and not in the ears). just dont see the point anymore. besides i only got them cause me ex-gf was into it.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
