  1. and for the record. i do NOT make low turns. in fact, i got kinda bitched at for not turning low. my weight was not evenly distributed in the saddle and had a built in turn left. didnt notice until about 100 feet. freaked out a bit cause i was headed right into a pipe (with a pointy end i might add). ended up landing okay, kinda hard. BUT i shoulda turned low (flat turns)....heard so much about hook turns etc i was freaked about ANY kind of low turn. in retrospect, it would hav been betterif i had made a flat low turn, i would have had a LOT more outs.... thankfully every skydive is a learning experience. 2. getting plenty of help. i started on a TS-265, did 3 jumps on it then went to a TS-210 for 15 or so jumps. last week i did a jump on that rig, then repacked (with help). checked the cypres and got an error message. only other rig available was a Sabre 190. our TS/A has seen several of my landings and told me to jump it. and he was right, everything happened a bit faster, but no big deal. i flared at the normal height, decent landing (not a standup but good). anyways, thanks for the math equation for calculations. 3. how do i calculate my wingloading? my exit weight is approx 250 lbs and i am jumping a 190. please include an explanation of how to figure it, and please remember i SUCK at math. thx. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  4. Jeth is right IMO. your JMs will correct your body position on your first AFF jump, so an extra tandem is a waste of money unless you need it as a confidence builder. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  5. hopefully i will be back from Afghanistan in time for the boogie... hey Judy are there going to be any jumps on Labor Day? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  6. my DZ doesnt have static line progression, so we are required to do a tandem before AFF groundschool and the first AFF jump. from my understanding static line is cheaper, but for me its all about the freefall...if you want to be under a canopy you could do parasailing to see what its like, its a hell of a lot cheaper. but freefall is an experience unto itself. i would do a tandem, lay off for the winter and save money. THEN do AFF if you liked the tandem... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  7. you'll be fine. pulling is self-preservation, so unless you're not scared of hitting the ground you will pull. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  8. my second tandem jump was a reserve ride...but i knew something was up because i pulled the ripcord and we kept falling....the tandem instructor was fairly reluctant to talk about it when we landed BTW... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  9. just a hint for selling: request a postal money order as payment. if they try to fuck you over it becomes mail fraud which is a federal offense. and a second tip is beware when selling anything to anyone in Africa, particularly Nigeria the kingpin of scams.... 10. and no failed levels, did it in 7 jumps (damn good thing too cause i couldnt afford to repeat a jump). tomorrow doing my first solo, last week was first off landing, week before was my first injury (fractured knuckles from a low flare), today my first non-radio DZ landing....im gonna be spending more on beer than the entire AFF cost me anyways, i am officially off student status! thinking of trying to sitfly just for the hell of it, probably look like a jackass but the best part is noone will be watching! hope to see everyone next year in Rantoul!
  11. Great staff, laid back and friendly. Willing to teach you anything you want to know just because they all love the sport. The Cessna is a nice jump from12500, 5 jumpers to altitude in 15 minutes. The Kingair ROCKS - 14 jumpers to altitude of 15000 in 7 minutes. Add super experienced JMs into the mix along with a great open drop zone and you have one of, if not the best DZ in the country.
  12. i plan (stress plan) on doing my last 3 AFF jumps tomorrow (assuming i pass all the TLOs). so what next? i know i can go solo, and will hopefully make my first "solo" tomorrow, but what after that? i guess i should ask the instructors at my DZ, but they are not here right now, and i will see them tomorrow, so just looking for opinons on what i should do...... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  13. hey thanks for the input guys. i did tracking on level 2, no problems with it whatsoever, went from 130 to 180 in about 5 seconds (JM had in helmet speedometer). also did 90s on level 2 (levels 2 and 4 are identical except no hands on by the JM on 4). again thanks for the advice, i will talk with my JM and see what he wants to do. 14. heheh, i am new here and to the sport, but you guys missed my favorite urban legend.... Faces of Death - "I looked up, and here he come, right down into the croc pit..." anyone seen that ridiculous piece of crap so-called "documentary"? its all fake (except for the animal carnage of course, and a few news footage scenes).... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. i am going this saturday to do jumps 5-7 to complete AFF. i did 360s instead of 90s on level 4, level 5 is supposed to be 360s. i want to do 1 360, redock, then (if over 6K which i will be) try a barrel roll. my reasoning is that i would like to get on my back before i try a backloop, and the barrel roll seems easier on dirt dives than the backloop or frontloop. also the barrel roll is not included in the AFF training for whatever reason. any suggestions or input on this? havent talked to my JM about it yet, wanted some feedback first... 16. amen...i am nursing two fractured knuckles and a compression fracture in my wrist from flaring too low. still having problems judging when to flare, but on my last two jumps with my injured hand i found it better to flare slightly too high than too low. and BTW, my JM evaluated my hand before the jump, as well as the doctor, plenty of movement range to jump safely, its just sore as hell...
