  1. I can't remember if it was in one of the movies or series but there was an 'episode' involving Cochrane using warp drive for the first time. Anybody remember which series or movie it was? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  2. I came across this on CNN this morning. It's worth watching. It gives a little perspective on what is simmering just below the surface in the whole town. http://money.cnn.com/2015/08/06/news/ferguson-arrest-warrants/ ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  3. Congrats little lady! It's about time you gave up that respectable day job and came back to Skydiving! BTW I'm Freak Brother 1371.... That's gotta be your next number to get! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  4. I think maybe it's time to rebuild that portion of his backyard fence he's been putting off. Maybe upgrade it with a gate. It looks like he's on a corner. Hopefully he has 33 feet of "rotten" fence on the side. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  5. I'm not a vegan. However, after living in the Far East for almost 10 years I eat a lot more fruits and vegies than I used to. I also eat a lot less meat than I used to. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  6. Grant, thanks for the perspective. I'm actually cool with either one as long as they stay in the dive. Blue Skies ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  7. I disagree. It's different for everyone. Try a viso2 out at your dz, and see if you like digital or analog. If you do then buy it. I was using mine before 38 jumps and I know of some DZs that were using them with their AFF students. Wasn't there an article in Parachutist about it sometime in the last 2 years? I'd have to check my issues. I disagree with your disagreement! On your next jump, note someone close to you in the dive plan who is wearing a digital altimeter and note their altitude checks. In my limited research (as in limited to about 70 seconds each time), I have watched people take as long as 2~3 seconds to check their altitude as they totally defocus from the dive and basically go blind intensely focusing on their digital altimeter. It's even more fun to watch on a casual Saturday 10 way belly jump with a few low time jumpers wearing digitals! Yes, some jumpers with digitals are assuredly a little quicker than others but I have yet to see someone with an analog take more than a quarter (.25) to half (.5) a second to check their altitude. This is with a wrist mount or a chest mount. The chest mount is usually the quickest, especially if anchored over your chest strap buckle on the left side to prevent "flopping" in the wind. Also, it's a rather handy position come cutaway time for your next (or first) malfunction. The added bonus of an analog altimeter is other people can see it too. It keeps them in the dive instead wrist flipping every few seconds. Just my 2 cents.
  8. Ouch! I guess my silliest one was actually two. Jumping at Skydive Suffolk, VA in the middle 80's while at Ft. Eustis for a military school was a blast. 1. Had a great jump! Walking back in I stepped in a hole and sprained my left ankle. 2. Two weeks later on my first jump back I had another great landing. Walked two steps and tripped over a rock and sprained the same ankle again! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  9. Thanks, Dave! You deserve a special fist bump today! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  10. Great fun! Look up "Lurch" among the folks that hang out here. I think he has also built a wingsuit or two.
  11. Good deal. Live and let live. I may be a fiscal conservative but I am also a "Live and let Live" social libertarian. As I am too... good post. As am I, Ramen. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  15. The X210 was a hot parachute during its time. Landings varied by skill and weight. The production date is around the time most manufacturers were completing the transition to F-111 fabric. The Pegasus was a direct (and better) competitor to the Cruise-Lite. The Fury 220 was essentially a Pegasus with flared attachment points. When the Fury 220 came out in F-111 it set the new standard for 7 cells. It's widely considered the best 7 cell ever made. I'm pretty sure the Pegasus is of the older 1:1 (or lighter) varieties that were pre-F-111. It is the direct ancestor of the Fury-220 which was F-111. (BTW I bought Fury #251 around late 1984 and jumped it until 1999!). Compare the two fabrics side x side. If they're different, the lighter one will be the F-111. Any other old-timers know if either of these were ever produced in F-111? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  16. Back in the 80's, when stationed with the army in Germany, the Stars & Stripes daily newspaper published a headline that read, "Hell freezes over! Recruiters rejoice!" Apparently, Hell, Norway recorded sub-zero temperatures. "When Hell freezes over," was a common reply when a soldier was asked if he wanted to reenlist! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  23. I was going to say, I thought D was "Master" Then I checked mine :) Does anyone recall what year the USPA changed the D-License from Expert to Master? My license, D-9397, issued in 1985 says "Expert" on it. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  24. I remember when "coach" jumps became mandatory at my old DZ back in the late 90's. After AFF, students were required to do 5 coach jumps with an experienced jumper. Our coaches were usually older D-licensed jumpers with quite a few years/jumps in the sport. We were all volunteers and were paid $5 plus the jump. It was a great way to introduce recent AFF grads to the general jumping population at the DZ. An invite to the bonfire was standard practice and brought them into the fold. It was more mentoring than coaching. I'm with peanut4040 on this one. I'm not questioning the skill level but rather the overall time/wisdom in the sport. Retaining new jumpers at this critical stage might be better served by allowing ST&A's to waive the coach requirement on a case by case basis based on experience rather than a "coach" ticket. Just a thought. Any other ideas? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
