I have been on a couple of Army Demo Teams and we have had it happen at least once a year with a new guy. We did it on Ft. Campbell about 2 months after 9/11/01. Thread Drift following: True story. When I was on another Army Demo Team we had a few cases of Red M-18's we happened to be re-pinning and rigging for freefall. Things where going well INSIDE the Team room as we rigged away. PING! SHIT! LOOK OUT! GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY! .......POP....... HISSSSS....Shit this is hot OPEN THE DOOR! We had a red haze for about an hour and had to explain to the MP's why we had a red cloud of smoke billowing in the street on MAIN POST in sight of the post HQ. The new LT here played Line Backer for Army last year (sorry I cant spell his name and couldn't pronounce I just call him Sir with a "C"). He did say that the Athletes DID male Height and weight in the Army, they got taped but have low Body Fat %'s so the ystill make it by the Army Regs. As for AF or Navy I would hope it was similar. We need that test done here, permanently. The Officers Wives Association whined they didn't have garage door openers on ther garages and they wanted the Post to pay for the $300 to $500 systems for all the Officer Housing. The Junior Enlisted don't even have a garage. They are not whining for them buy they way. As far as encouraging jumpers to get a bigger, we see in another thread the people who SHOULD go bigger are thinking "cool factor" already and stating they are going SMALLER! I got a raven 181 because my big butt could fire it at terminal in CO and not blow it up (I don't jump there on squares to often but figured it would be the safe thing to do). The problem was I happened to be getting in to "better" performing canopies (not really a "swooper" but I dabble). Ankie at Sunrise guided me along and my container is built for the 181 reserve and 110 main (107 CB right now). If I had an option I would be willing to even go higher in the reserve footage and PD has addressed this. Others I am sure will follow suit. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. No. It is a bit hard when all your jumps are on a tracking board for the MAJ and all the staff to see each day. I did think about it, but soon realized I would meet the deadline with out having too (this was many years ago, and besides it was your Father in law checking me and I wasn't getting my neck pinched for nothing![).
