  1. I agree with Jamie. The result of his telling the press is now: 1) The security company gets atacked from everywhere and maybe they will punish the guards by fireing them. 2) The object is now burned and could have been jumped again 3) The jumper will probably get fined but at least he is famous... Someone got tard and featherd some time ago for something more or less simular... Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch
  2. It is as Flummi said: If you are a Member they will pay either the part that your insurance does not pay or everything if your insurance does not pay anything at all. In case that your insurance refuses to pay anything at all you still need a letter from the insurance that confirms that they are not going to pay. Air Glacier or Rega need this to have a proof that an effort has been made to get something from your insurance. And that is where the problem is. If you don't have any insurance then you won't get this approval letter and Air Glacier of Rega will continue to try to get the money from you because they will assume that you did not try to get your insurance to pay for your rescue. But in my honest opinion, if someone is a BASE Jumper and do not have any insurance he is extremely stupid and should not be jumping. And as mentioned before, it is better for us BASE Jumper if Air Glacier/Rega don't have to pay everything every time there is a rescue because it is possible that they will exclude BASE jumping from there list. 3. I'm sure the BASE balance (memberships vs rescues) looks very bad compared to the other mountain sports. One of the main occupation of air galcier is pulling jumpers out of the trees do to low pulls. I'm sure this happens more then every second weekend in LB during the main season. I guess this would be around 10 treelanding rescues this year. Then two helicopter recoveries this year (for the third fatality no helicopter was needed) and another maybe 5 helicopter rescues for do to insuries. - Treelanding around CHF 2500.-- 10 x 2500.-- = CHF 25'000.-- - Recoveries around CHF 4000.-- 2 x 4000.-- = CHF 8000.-- - Rescues around CHF 6000.-- 5 x 6000 = 30'000 Total CHF 63'000.-- Devided by the membership (CHF 30.--) = 2100 And I'm sure not more then 200 jumpers (CHF 6000.--) pay the membership which means that around 57'000.-- has to come from other members. That is why it is important that everyone that got the service of Air Glacier tries to get his own insurance to pay a part of it. Because if not, the day will probably come that Air Glacier will not allow BASE Jumpers the membership anymore. Edit to add: this is only an estimate, but I think the real numbers would even look worse for us. And 1 CHF = 0.83 USD Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch

  5. I have bought the Gun Zoom Microphone ECM-HGZ1 for my Sony HC3. It is connected to the Active Interface Shoe from Sony. Costs around 100 USD here in Switzerland. Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch
  6. Hey James, how's live? Are you sure you want to buy it in the US? Don't you have the PAL/NTSC problem in the UK? Just know that you buy the camera in an other format then your friends have at home you will not be able to dub your tapes. Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch
  7. Hey K, I'm a new jumper and I have lots of respect for the pioneers of our sport. But my friends that I jump with are more important to me then the pioneers are (Hey Micke, your both, a pioneer and a friend so you are dobble important...
  8. You are right, I have just receifed an sms today of a friend who pulled low and had to get rescued out of the trees. He got a big bill from Air Glacier and I will try to find out what this is about it. So I am very interested to know how the deal is with Air Glacier. 9. You are pretty good instructed. But I would say helicopter insurance is not only a good idea, it should be a must. It costs around 25 USD. A helicopter rescue costs between 4’000 and 10’000 USD. If you have the insurance you won’t have to pay a penny. And we see a lot of helicopter rescues in LB. Regarding the tracks: It is not only a good track that is important; it has to be a good subterminal track which is a lot harder. On most of the jumps you should be tracking min. 2 seconds after your exit because impact is at 6 to 7 seconds if you don’t track. LB is dangerous because if you don’t track very well, you will have a delay of only 6 seconds. The danger on this is that you will be close to the wall and the chances for off headings with or without line twists are high on slider up jumps with these delays. And chances to get killed or seriously injured if you have a 180 with line twists are very high. So learn how to do subterminal tracks on a high antenna first if possible. You won’t have to worry to land in the high grass, in February it will be covered by snow. But this makes it a little bit harder to judge the height because your reference is not as good as when there is no snow. It is a very good idea with the Canadian whiskey for the farmers. If you come in February then I can show you maybe a crane to jump in Zurich and then it would also be a good idea to bring some whiskey to the locals (me for example…
  10. wow, already another 99 since your 100th of Yellow this summer! What are you going to do to top you 100th? Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch
  11. The time befor the ground freezes is the best time to spread the shit. During this time there is the highest efficency without having to risk that the shit get's into the ground water or gets washed away. Every Swiss knows this because we are a nation of cow experts and farming experts...
  12. Yes, we and we even like the smell of sullage. It means that winter is not to far away. But at the moment it is really a bit nasty in LB. 2 weeks befor the landing areas have been coverd with cow shit and now they put the sullage on top of the cow shit. It is better to stand up the landings at the moment. And like Nico said, your canopy will smell different, no matter how careful you land.

  17. I just got out of the hospital 4 or 5 hours ago. I had the entire outer meniscus removed and about half of the inner meniscus because I'm to stupid to land in a big green field... The doctor told me I will probably have atrocious (I don't know if this is English...) in about 10 to 15 years. But the whole thing has two positive aspects: At least my right and left knee are now damaged more or less symmetrical and the second is that I'm already old... I'm joking now but I'm not looking forward to the day that the atrocious kicks in... Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch

  23. Hey Tracy, I was in the valley yesterday. I did not see the jump, we jumped before them. I agree with you that pulling to late or impacting because of poor tracking are two different things. But I think both of them have to do with lack of skills. It was the jumpers second jump, I saw them packing befor the fatal jump and what I have heard is that he did a handheld jump earlier. So I think (but of I don't know it, it is only an assumption) brain look was not the issue. La Mouse is a very dificult jump. BASE1007 said it maybe in a bit a harsh way but throwing a first jumper of La Mouse is the most stupid thing one can do. If you have to do a frist jump in LB do it from Yellow but NEVER from La Mouse or the Nose. I don't know why these guys did that. I think eather it was massive wrong judgment, extreem stupidity or the just did not have a clue of what they where doing. I'm afraid that accidents like this will continue. BASE is not the underground thing anymore. Every idiot can buy a BASE Rig, a ticket to Switzerland and find the exits in LB. Today the media was in LB. I'm sure that if accidents like this continue the valley will be closed for jumping. Michi (#1068) hsbc/gba/sba www.swissbaseassociation.ch www.michibase.ch
