  1. We had mice in our DZ trailer one spring- they moved in over the winter. We started bringing our cats with us on the weekends- no more mice. We haven't had our cats out there in years and the mice still stay away. You must have a lazy cat or suicidal mice!
  2. You missed the misogynistic rant directed at Bolas when he attempted to lighten up the thread? I think the gist was that Americans are celebrity and sports obsessed ignorant morons and women are evil.
  3. Sorry, the beans need to be freshly ground and the coffee just brewed. I guess I'm a coffee snob but for me its about more than the caffeine!
  4. I just enjoy a good cup of coffee and it is part of my morning routine. The caffeine is an added bonus.
  5. On a work day? Maybe a 1, and it has to be coffee. I think I'm immune to other caffeine sources. I also can't really function without a long hot shower.
  6. I met him briefly last summer. Very nice person. I'm sorry for your loss.
  7. Sorry Primetime- you are incorrect. But I love how the Roger myth lives on....... I started at SDC in '96. The student canopy for AFP was a Sabre at the time- which was pretty much unheard of anywhere else. He loved the Stiletto back in the day though, and had a few for his own personal use. I'll just add that IMO, the whole AFP "experiment" has worked out pretty well for SDC so far. They've turned out some pretty good skydivers and although I don't have any hard data, the number of knuckleheads and dirt eaters doesn't seem to be any higher there than at any other DZ.

    Idiot Wounds

Are you sure the cider suggestion was a joke? Apple cider vinegar is a pretty common folk remedy for all sorts of ailments.
  9. default should be seat and lid down when not in use.

Definitely TMI but thanks for sharing, John!
  11. Don't forget the sudafed ...........
  12. The retail businesses would not be open on Thanksgiving if it were not for all the customers all too happy to leave their Thanksgiving dishes on the table to go bargain hunting. Hate the shopper not the shop?
  13. They didn't just throw her in "jail". They kept her in a tent in the hospital parking lot- with no heat or plumbing- for 4 days. Bentley the dog was treated far better than this woman. Murderers on death row are treated better. Now she's pissed and in no mood to cooperate. I can't say that I blame her. I have mixed feelings on the self quarantine issue. Logically, I know these doctors and nurses pose very little risk to the public. They're monitoring their temperatures, and know the signs and symptoms. They know what to do if symptoms appear, they are not wandering the streets projectile vomiting, with mucus running down their faces, etc ....... But the fear and panic are real and I don't think it's right if a business ends up closing its doors or suffers a huge financial loss just because someone who was supposed to be under a self quarantine wanted some soup or decided to go bowling, or trying on wedding dresses. Not to mention all the tax dollars spent tracing their steps, etc .......... I kind of feel like these medical professionals should "take one for the team" and stay home for the 3 weeks and their employers should also "take on for the team" and pay them- at least until thing settle down and "we" get a better handle on the situation.
  14. Captain obvious agrees but how often do DZs do psych evaluations on tandem masters? Most people dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts hide it well and live functional lives. Even their closest friends and family members don't know how much pain their loved one is on until the unthinkable happens. The real irony is that when Hannah was living as a man and feeling suicidal the same DZs who now feel she is too unstable to work as a TI were all too happy to employ "him". Did I get that right, Hannah?
  15. Recovery from the hardware removal was a piece of cake. Every situation is different but I felt relief instantly in spite of the soreness from the surgery. (I really had no idea how much it was bothering me until it was gone.) I had to stay off my feet for a day or two, and there were stitches to remove. I did it in the off season to give the bone a little time to heal, let the holes fill in....... That was just for the plate and screws on the fibula. I had other screws taken out much earlier (2 meant to be temporary, two probably meant to be permanent.....) but that's a different story and I don't have cool xrays to attach ............
  16. You're only 4 months in. The bones might be fine but you did a lot of damage to the soft tissue as well. (There is pretty much always soft tissue damage when you break bones near a joint.) Soft tissue heals at its own pace. Keep working it- try a treadmill or ellyptical- but don't expect to be at 100% overnight. It takes months. To be honest, I wasn't pain free or at full function untill ALL the hardware was removed 2 years later - I didn't even realize how limited I was until the hardware was gone. People have differing opinions on just how "permanent" those plates and screws are supposed to be, but for me, removing it all was the right choice.
  17. I think his actions were HUMAN. Humans can be kind and brave, and they can also be selfish, self centered and just plain dumb. Its really easy to take the high road and 2nd guess what we might do in that situation but we're not there. I'm pretty sure he already had his visa and ticket, and it has to be pretty well publicized over there that the US aid workers who got sick were taken to the US, treated and cured. I'm not saying its right, but I can't totally condemn the guy either. Instead, I wonder how many more there are like him, who left knowing they been exposed and hoping for the best.
  18. That's my take on it as well, based on the way the story is unfolding.
  19. Many jump suit manufacturers are a 1 man (or woman) operation.
  20. Having spent about 10 days in intensive care at my mother's side while she was slowly dying on life support, my heart goes out to Melissa Rivers. Personally I wasn't a fan of Joan's later work but she was a pioneer in the industry and paved the way for other women in show business.
  21. No confession, no witness, no weapon, no gunshot residue on the hands, no real evidence- just a strong motive? Honestly, if I was on the jury I would probably acquit also. But IF he did go to his house, retrieve a gun, return to the crash scene and shoot the driver then discard the weapon in such a manner that it could not be found? That would show premeditation and a knowledge of right and wrong. That's murder, not temporary insanity or extreme mental/emotional distress. The prosecution still needs to prove their case. Honestly, to me it sounds like everyone on the scene either participated in the cover up and/ or someone else did it.
  22. When I am ready for my recurrency jump, will you come to my DZ and be my coach?
  23. I recently saw an ad on this site for mail order Asian brides. I can assure you that I do not frequent ANY websites that might indicate I am interested in that sort of thing.

That is not necessarily a good thing. Have you been to a nude beach before?
