  1. Here's the link It's very interesting. However, as an edited piece, it's always hard to tell what the context was. However, props to McCain for his stance. When McCain and Obama became their respective party's nominees, I have to admit it made me very happy. I felt that should the candidate i will be voting for lose the election, I would not feel like the country would be in bad hands when handled by the other candidate. I also thought that these two nominees were bringing something to the table we had not seen in a long time: two people with a vision of their own, strong character, eloquence, but above all, I regarded them as good politicians. And then WE came into the picture. This CNN video (and that would apply to 99% of news reporting around the country) is diluted information for the data-starving generation that we are. I truly believe that this campaign, because of the two nominees (not talking about the VP nominees, which is a totally different story), could have been about issues; visions; the ability to articulate thoughts, however non-mainstream they might have been, but because they believed there was a better way. There always is. Instead, WE have taken the campaign back into our hands. With snippets. Soundbites. McCain is at his worst when attacking people. He's much better at explaining what he believes is right. But because WE are starved with bipolar stances, someone convinced him he had to draw the HIM/BAD ME/GOOD card. Much like someone convinced (and it seems to be working) Obama that he should use the MCCAIN=BUSH ME=Change. SO now we have "debates" with candidates spending more time telling us how many times the other guy voted against this and that proposition (which most of the time is not correct), instead of telling us what they would do themselves. What they believe in. This video is the perfect example of it. WE have allowed the campaign "strategists" to make this campaign about the fear of a black man with Muslim relatives on one hand, and the disappointment of the current administration on the other. Can we, for once, vote according to what we want our country to be, not according to what it shouldn't be? Instead of blaming the press and the politicians, who only feed us what we want to be fed, isn't it time we take responsibility for our actions as voters, and allow our representatives to be just that: represent who we are? Again, props to McCain for his stance. He won't get my vote for other reasons, but he sure gets my respect, and should he win, I won't feel sorry for myself nor for this country. Now about the VP nominees... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  2. More importantly: why do porn chicks have a slot? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  3. He meant to say: "I'll get Obama then Biden, my friends. I'll get 'em. I know how to get 'em. I'll get 'em no matter what and I know how to do it." I get them confused myself... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  4. Ironically, GM sells more Buick in...China than in the US! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  5. but both of your parents are citizens, not one and you weren't born in the country of the parent that wasn't a citizen. makes a difference. My daughter was born in China of a Russian mother and American father. She is a US citizen (certificate and passport and all...) as much as a person born in Oklahoma of American father and mother. You only need one parent to be a US citizen (with some quotas as to where this parent has lived for how long, etc...) to become a US citizen when born in a foreign country. 9. Cool. Now we can move on to Rhodesia, Belgian Congo, Persia, and the likes. In addition, we should patrol the waters off the Afar and Issas territory and make sure them pirates stop hi-jacking ships to Italian Somaliland. Things sure are looking up.

  12. Depends on what type of rig. If you only have a BASE rig, you're fucked, as the FAA doesn't allow you to jump off da plane with a single parachute system. 16. Sorry Mike! Hang in there, she'll live through you. Fly free, Shannon. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  17. No it doesn't. Obeying orders has nothing to do with ethics. If you witness a murder, and your superior tells you not to report it, which path will you choose? Another example would be "Deep Throat" and the Watergate... In some instances, breaking orders can be the ethical thing to do (however subjective that may be). 18. Interesting idea of what a human endeavor is. Controlling a horse is at least as difficult as controlling any other 2,000 pound mass; more so in that the object has a mind of its own you're also trying to control. It's not like the horse is doing all the work all by itself! Give the greatest rider a shitty, broken-down horse; is he going to win? No. Not a totally relevant example. Riders compete on horses THEY have trained with, so the training of and with the horse prior to the competition plays a big part. Also, I bet you that Lance Armstrong does not win a single Tour de France if riding a shitty, broken down bicycle. That does not mean bike riding is not a sport. 19. Sort of like many places where at one point someone drew a line and decided there would be 1 country on each side of the line. Then you mix in historical issues (where to start in the Caucasus, between the Russians, Georgians, Azerbaijanis, Armenians, Turks, Iranians, and all sorts of sub-groups to be found there). Thinking that one side is clearly right and the other clearly wrong is, in my opinion, making a gross error in estimating the underlying cause of such conflicts. I also sense that Russia's heavy handed response had as much to do with sending a clear message to the Ukrainians and the West as it had to do with going after Georgian troops. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  20. When the USSR broke into pieces, people only had Soviet passports. When Russia started issuing passports, it gave the opportunity to all Russian nationals to have Russian passports. It so happens that some of them were in Southern Ossetia. And it is always hard to ask someone to leave his/her ancestral land because a border just popped up. What I find geopolitically interesting in these events is that Russia is supporting a breakaway territory. Drive few kilometers to the North-East and you find yourself in Chechnya, where Russia has a slightly different position on the locals' independence aspirations.. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  21. For the past 2000 years, thanks to Confucius, China has been a pyramidal society. From the 1950's to the 1980's, the Chinese regime has created generations of robots. Today, they have truly achieved the level of Brave New World. They are so worried about the outside perception of China that they are willing to go to unthinkable length to appear as having reached a pinnacle to the West. Everyone is happy, everyone is perfect. I truly love Chinese people. But I am really worried about what the next 5 to 10 years will bring. Nature has a way of cleansing itself once it reaches a peak, and it is rarely in a pretty way... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  22. Positive as in lowering total population, yes. But in the long term, it will have devastating effects. - peasants used to rely on their daughter in law as a "retirement" plan. Once they were too old to work the fields, the daughter in law (who would move in upon marrying the elder son) would take over and care for the elder in laws (and be treated as a slave, really). Now, with the one child policy, having a daughter means spending lonesome years... - as poor people favor having a son (not only to carry the lineage, but to ensure a "retirement" policy), there has been way too many abortions due to a woman carrying a girl. The male population in the younger generation is reaching alarming proportions, which will have great consequences in 15 to 20 years - there is a new society made of single children, who have a very different approach to life than children with siblings. They are spoiled to death, and find themselves ill prepared to care for themselves in the "real world. That I believe (and hope) will hold true, based on what I see in the streets of Shanghai today "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
