  1. Unfuckingbelievable! Lezac was out of his mind! Amazing... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  2. The next couple of weeks is the right time to check this sport out. I used to think it was tennis' poor little brother. Shit, these guys (and girls) can PLAY. The speed of it is amazing... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  3. Not directly from AQ, but from one of the Xinjiang (Western Province of China, formerly part of Tibet, with a strong Muslim population) independence movement. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  4. Careful - That can really screw up your fall rate Anyone know if any jumpers will be dropping in through the industrial haze during the opening ceremony? BP
  5. This country is 5 hours and 14 minutes away from coming to a stand still... The anticipation in the streets is palpable. It's quite unreal. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  6. Happy birthday Mike. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  7. On a funny note: if they were Tibetans, they would be considered freedom fighters by some. Being Uighur (whose demands are similar to the Tibetans and as legitimate one would argue), some will call them terrorists...
  8. Bwahahaha! We fooled you! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  9. ...Shooting heroine? I suspect some people who claim "it's not love if you can't do what you love blahblahblah" are hiding their fear of having to make a lifestyle altering decision... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  10. Yes. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

  14. My last jump was in November 2005. A weird 4 way something with Diablo, Skylord & Beth at Perris. I moved to China a week later, and there are no DZ nearby. But there is life after skydiving... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  15. Peej should be able to relate! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  16. Do you believe it? I would hope not . . . but there is a lot of info on it. They apparently don't like short blonde American girls either - lil old lady socked me while walking to Nicks house one night. g I warned lil' old ladies about blonds, that's why! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  17. Do you believe it? I would hope not . . . but there is a lot of info on it. There's definitely as much racism in China as there is in the West, that's for sure. Although the Chinese bath themselves into this warm unity feeling which is as BS as can be. But the few people I know who own bars or work in Sanlitun have not been approached by the authorities regarding who can and can not get in. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

  19. Da plane, da plane! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  20. Maybe if I send one from China (which seems to be the origin of all things nowadays) it will get to someone?
  21. Blue pill? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  22. Never did... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  23. I am a big proponent of learning foreign languages, and I would agree with the "need" part in this case. However, it is definitely not a "must". The founding fathers were smart enough to leave room in the constitution for the "unknown" the future brings along, including not imposing an official language, or religion, etc... Evolution is much like free market economy. Let it be, and it will sort things out by itself. The whole "Do it my way or get the fuck out" attitude only survives in exotic countries such as North Korea, Myanmar, and the likes. Whatever you bitch and moan about, the only sure thing is that... the Lakers will win it all at the end! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  24. There is quite an amazing feeling, at least here in Shanghai, that lots of people outside of the affected zone are trying to help out. When I got to my office this morning, there was a woman settled by the elevator collecting donations (flashing credentials and all); I an going to an art opening at a gallery tomorrow, and 1/2 of the sales by the artists (one Canadian, one Chinese) are to be donated to an earthquake relief fund; my local hospital texted me today to inform me that they will be collecting blood tomorrow for earthquake victims in need; and I am going to a Bar-B-Cue on Sunday in one of my favorite week-end hang out, and all the proceeds (about $20/person) will be donated to a fund. People donate in many different ways in different parts of the world, so this is by no means a judgment on other countries' practices. But the response at the ground level, at least in my neck of the woods, has been amazing. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  25. Not quite sure that will happen, Jeanne. Chinese culture is driven, still today, by Confusius school of thoughts. It makes for a very pyramidal society, on top of which sits an "alpha" power. It used to be the emperor; then, after power struggles among different war lords, it was Chang Kai shek; then Mao; then Deng Xiao Ping; and now the party. Once the party collapses, it will probably be replaced by another form of authority. What's important to understand though, is that in China, the rights of the family by far supercede what we know as the Human Rights. The average Chinese person cares a lot less about individual rights than it does the rights of the father, elder son, etc... over the family unit. A much stronger unit than what we have in the West, albeit much different as well. TO think that our political system is the best there is in any situation is, I believe, fighting the wrong battle. There is no political model for a country the size of China (I would hardly call India a happier society), so China is slowly building its own. Outrageous capitalism moderated once in a while by extreme social mesures. Interesting time, you are right. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
