  1. http://www.skydiveu.com/product.jsp?productid=3 http://www.skydiveu.com/product.jsp?productid=4 There are still 4 more in the series. I believe the next one will be available early next year. I have both of these and everyone ive showed them to thinks they are brilliant. I was thinking about buying Brian's dvd 'vertical journey 2', but I haven't heard much about what it covers. Does anyone have it?
  2. :12:0 Some 2way, 3way, 4way freefly jumps. Spent far too much money,...but it was worth it as always!!
  3. I didn't do a single jump all weekend. Now come monday morning and I cant concentrate on work!! But it was quite cool going out with some of my whuffo friends for a change.
  4. A buddy and I went to Eloy this year and it was awesome. We got some world class coaching and were jumping as fast as we could pack. We are now planning another trip for February. By the looks of it we are probably going to go to Eloy again, and that will be awesome again im sure. The only problem is that since we come from South Africa, its extremely expensive to get to the States. What other places around the world would you recommend? This is a once a year trip and is really not cheap so id like to try get as much skydiving and coaching in as possible as apposed to spending all the money on flights. Im thinking empuriabrava might be a possibility. But is there the same sort of coaching and lift capacity available there? Ive also heard that sometimes the weather is not great. What is it usually like in february? We dont really have to worry about bad weather if we go to Eloy again. Thanks for any suggestions. cheers

    Headdown Carving

Hey, thanks for all the tips. Ill give the heels idea a try this weekend and see how that goes.
  7. Some things that helped me when first learning to stand was to make sure my arms were in the correct position first ie: not far behind you, they should be slightly bent and out to your sides. Then I also found it easier to keep my legs shoulder width apart as opposed to closing them while standing. Its just like standing on the ground in the sense that its easier and more stable (at least to start out with) to have your legs slightly apart. And just like when you started with sitflying you really need to punch your legs down and be strong about it. The wind IS going to try to push your legs up and you just need to not let it do that. Good luck!!

    Headdown Carving

Ok, thanks for the responses. Ill try and get a few jumps done with a coach who can also carve since you have both said that its easier than carving round a fixed object. Paige - nope im not trying to carve in my avatar, thats just a pic of me doing a linked 2way HD exit and still on the hill . But thanks for the tips. What im still a bit confused about is what exactly I must do with my legs? Ive seen pics where it looks like the person has one leg slightly more back than the other which kind of makes sense to me to create that 'offset' angle to start carving. Or am I completely on the wrong track here? Im just trying to figure out what exactly my legs need to be doing other than driving me forward. Thanks

    Headdown Carving

So im trying to learn how to carve on my head and am looking for a few tips or techniques used to carve. I did a few jumps this weekend where I was able to carve a 'big' circle round two other freeflyers doing a 2way. But I want to be able to carve around just one person flying a base and keep the circle relatively small. I was told that you need to combine a side slide with forward movement. Ive got no problem with forward/backward movement but I cant really side slide yet. So if you have any tips on side sliding please let me know. Also, if there are any solo drills I can work on to help with carving that would be great. (and also how to stop on heading). But im guessing it would be best to just get someone to fly base and carve around them. Thanks for any advice, cheers
  10. I heard a similar one a few months back when I was at Eloy. A very experienced 4way team were out for team training and were dirt diving when a whuffo commented 'Hey look, I think they are all going to try fall together' Argh,...
  11. Just incase you guys havent seen this yet: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=3981 It illustrates well the need for proper exit separation and exiting 90degrees to jump run to avoid possible collisions. And just as someone above mentioned, dont stay headdown for the entire jump when you are learning. Just a few seconds at a time is good. Then pop back into a sit, check your heading, and give it another go.
  12. Ive got both the sitfly and backfly dvd's of this series and I must admit that they are awesome. They show 'textbook' positions in both the sky and wind tunnel. A great buy, id recommend it to anyone looking for an instructional freefly dvd.
  13. Well I have just recently 'come right' with headdown and am now able to do some basic movement and docks. But believe me it took a long time to get here. I first tried about 10 headdown at 200 jumps and was all over the place without even really realising it. (thats a big problem when you first start, you can be zooming all over the sky and you dont even know it). I then just carried on with sitflying and at around 400 jumps I gave headdown a try. I got 15 headdown coach jumps all in the space of 1 month plus solos, and I seemed to have gotten it right. Basically, I think when you are ready to learn headdown, you will get it. If you're not ready, its not going to happen! Anyway, if you think you are ready (which im not so sure about judging by your profile) then things to help you would be: -Get coaching -Get the coach to just hold you headdown from exit to break off (at least for 1 jump) -headstands as someone has already mentioned. -Concentrate on where the wind is hitting your body. You really need to know if the wind is hitting you in the wrong place. Good luck, be safe (headdown is VERY zoomy)
  14. More money = more skydives. Simple as that
  15. 0:11:0 -Lots of fun 2way freefly jumps -1 5way freefly -2 4way freefly (got my first head down dock with someone other than a coach) -2 tracking dives Good weekend!!
  16. Yup, thats exactly what I do aswell.
  17. I log at the end of the day or if I jump saturday/sunday then ill only log at the end of the weekend. My log entries only cover the basics including what type of jump it was and who i jumped with. The only exeption is if I do something really cool or something for the first time. Like a first tube jump, rodeo or whatever. Typical log entry: 3way FF - name1, name2
  18. Well done dude, thats awesome!
  19. 0:6:0 Did 3 jumps with 3 newbie freeflyers and was happy being able to give them some pointers and hopefully give them some usefull info for their future freeflying. Also did my first wingsuit rodeo jump which was awesome. Plus another two 2ways.
  20. Yeah, im kinda dissapointed that I didnt go. But i decided to just have a chilled few jumps at jsc. Would have loved to have done a coaching jump or two with Jean Phillip.
  21. Well, including the last few days in March and then the whole of April ive probably done about 85 jumps in 5 weeks. But thats because I spent some time in Eloy. I dont usually jump anywhere near as much as I have been lately.
  22. Definitly yoga. I got introduced to it for 30 mins at the dz one morning and since then ive been doing it a few times a week for about 20mins. Im planning on maybe joining a class sometime. Its improved my flexability and overall body awareness. I would recommend it to any freeflyer who wants to be more aware of what each part of their body is doing in the air.
  23. :12:0 Just some fun freefly stuff before heading off to the the US for two weeks of skydiving, tunnel and beer!! . Cant wait for Thursday.
  24. Did my 400th skydive. 9 very cool freefly jumps including an awesome head down coach jump. Still lots to learn but at least I can now fly head down without zooming all over the sky (and got to watch the coyote ugly bar counter dancing
  25. Im still trying to convince a friend that when your canopy opens you dont immediatly start going up. She is convinced of this because she has watched jumps of mine where I film my team mates openings and obviously I carry on falling while their canopy is opening so I guess it looks like they are going up. She still keeps on saying 'Come on, you can see that you go up when your parachute thingy opens. Maybe just a little bit right?' Haha, silly wuffos
