    Types of Yoga

Thanks for the link. We actually did have a read through that which is what made us think yoga might be worth looking into. Does anyone else have any suggestions on dvd's?

    Types of Yoga

My girlfriend has recently started skydiving and is constantly stiff and sore for days after every skydive. I know a lot of skydivers do yoga (or something similar) to help with general strength, flexability and balance. I have also heard that a good number of world class skydivers at the top of our sport swear by yoga. So I did a bit of research and it seems like iether Hatha or Ashtanga would be a good choice. They both seem very different from each other though. What type of yoga would you all suggest with the primary aim of it being to benifit skydiving? Also, if there are any yoga dvd's to do at home you'd recommend, please let me know. Are there any dvd's that have a choice of different length classes, say 30mins and 60mins? Thanks
  3. Is your profile correct? Also, why would you want to fly above a student to observe the opening?
  4. Congrats Amy, Steve and the rest of Arsenal! Awesome flying as always. One day when im big
  5. What are the currency requirements then? If most people dont jump for 6 months of the year?
  6. Ok thanks. So there's pretty much 6 months of skydiving. Then if you want anything more than a few hop n pops, it will mean taking some time off work and off on a holiday to Eloy, zhills etc. Or the new tunnel when it's built I presume.
  7. Hey there, What does a typical year of skydiving look like in Canada specifically around weather and seasons. What months generally have active jumping, when do things quieten down, and when is there no jumping at all due to the weather? How long is the off season and what do skydivers generally do to get their fix and to stay current? I see there is a tunnel being built in Montreal so I presume when that's built it will be quite popular in the winter months. Are there any dropzones which have good enough weather and are close enough to travel to during the off season? Im specifically looking at the Toronto area and skydive Burnaby, but id like to get an idea of how skydiving in general works of the coarse of a year in Canada. Thanks
  8. I love the concept of VFS and cant wait untill some of us are able to start giving it a go in this country. The artistic 3way event and the new VFS event are obviously very different (similar only in that they both involve freeflying). But I dont think that either one is detracting from or killing freeflying. The artistic event is still around, and I hope people still have the desire to come up with new and cool looking routines (after watching any of Anomoly's vids, how can you not want to give it a go?). And to those who say they dont want to compete at a national level because they would be going up against teams like Anomoly,....to that I say, huh? what? So if you cant come first then there's no point in competing? Ive always found that training for and competing in comps is when I learn the most whether we come first or last. (not directing that at anyone in particular, but that seems to be a pretty common mind set) Personally I like the fact that VFS is probably attracting people to freeflying who would have previously never considered it because they dont like the artistic side. No doubt VFS is awesome and is taking precision / slot specific freeflying to another level. Cant wait to give it a go!
  9. Update: So I did my first 7 270's last weekend. Not nearly as good/accurate as the 180's that im so use to, but that's to be expected at first. What I was amazed by was how different the picture is and how I struggled to determine how high I was while doing the turn. Maybe its because my canopy was in the dive for longer than with the 180's. It just seemed like as soon as I let the canopy come out of the dive I realised I was too high everytime,...but I couldn't see that while I was still in the dive. But all normal im sure when just starting. Ill keep at it Thanks again for the tips. Cheers. B
  10. Cool, thanks for all the tips. I cant wait to get up there this weekend! And re using tools, I totally agree,...I have an optima in my helmet and use a neptune as a visual. I only use them to know when to start my turn, from then on I rely on my own judgement for the rest.
  11. Thanks Selwyn, ill definitly come chat to you guys next time im at PSC. In the mean time hopefully I can get some general tips here untill im able to chat to you guys or Beas on the weekend. cheers, B
  12. Hey, So I finally think im ready to start doing 270s. Ive done the whole progression from double fronts, to 90's to 180's, and now finally want to move onto 270's. I have been practicing them up high just for the purpose of seeing how much altitude I loose. It seems like I will be fine by adding another 100 feet onto my turning altitude that I use for a 180. Bear in mind that I am very light and my wing loading is relatively low,...so my canopy does seem to come out of a dive slightly quicker than others. Basically im just looking for any tips on making this move to 270's. Things I should think about when setting up? What visuals should I be looking for? Should I be smooth throughout the whole 270 or slow at first then fast through the last 90? Most people tell me that 270's are actually 'easier' than 180's,...but it's still a hell of a big turn for me,...so any tips will be welcome
  13. haha, yeah sorry I was just a bit confused,...if the camera has a 30mm thread, and you're attaching a 37mm wide angle lens by using a step ring, then why do you need to zoom in? I would understand if it is the other way around? Sorry, dont know much about this stuff.
  14. Thanks for the suggestion. If there's no way of getting around having to buy new lenses, then it looks like going for a 37mm lens will be the best option. Is there any downside to using a 37mm lens on a 30mm camera? Im getting an hc96 btw if that makes any difference. And now that it looks like ill have to buy new lenses, they will most likely be 'way cool'.
  15. I have ordered a new camcorder to replace the one which has finally given up and broken. The problem is that the new camera has a 30mm thread while the old one has a 25mm thread. Are all my existing wide angle lenses now useless, or is there a way to make them work with the new camera without cropping any of the image out? I know a step ring would work if I was going from a small camera thread to a bigger wide angle lens thread,....but now im going the other way, ie: big camera thread to small wide angle lens thread. Any ideas? or am I going to have to fork out for new lenses if I dont want to loose part of the image? Thanks
  16. Well thanks for the, um, advice. Guess it looks like there are no options other than to go for second hand. Looks like there are going to be some serious changes needed for skydivers/camera equipment.
  17. Yeah I might end up having to do something like that. It's just not my first choice as I live in South Africa and buying things on ebay and getting them here can be quite a mission. But yeah, its an option.
  18. So my Sony HC42 has packed up and im battling to find a new dv camera to buy,...there just aren't any around. They're all dvd, memory etc. Plus the few DV cams around are all HD and too big to side mount (especially considering as I have an FF2 helmet). And too expensive for what im willing to pay. Im really stuck. What'sout there at the moment for roughly $600, is suitable for skydiving, and is roughly the same size as an hc42? I thought the hc96 looked good but it is 2 7/8" (72mm) accross which wont fit in my FF2. It doesn't have to be sony, I just need something to replace my hc42 and I seem to have run out of options.
  19. Thanks for the advice. Damn,...I always thought places like Singapore had great prices for electronics. Im in South Africa, not the States,....so ill have to do a quick comparison between prices here and the states/singapore.
  20. My parents are going to Singapore in a couple days and since my Sony hc-42 keeps breaking and giving me problems I figure id take this chance to get a new cam since the prices over there are cheaper than here im sure? I jump an FF2 helmet which fits any of these apparently: PC6,8,9,101,103,105,107,109,120,330,350,1000 HC18,1920,21,22,30,39,40,42,46,96 Ive been thinking about the PC330, PC350 or PC1000. Reading through previous threads these 3 all seem to be pretty popular,....not much difference? Is there a big price difference between those 3? I know Sony have discontinued making the PC range so what do you think the chances of finding one in Singapore would be? And what would the price for these be since they are discontinued? Is there anything else other than those 3 for around the same price? Thanks.
  21. Ive never jumped with any form of goggles that have glass lenses and dont plan to. I know lots of people do, and they do look cooler,...but its not worth it. Just one hit to those lenses and they will break a lot easier than what regular goggles will, then you've got broken glass in and around your eye while in freefall Id rather wear less cool looking goggles and know that my eyes are safe. Especially if you're a freeflyer, collisions happen from time to time. Use it, dont use it
  22. I dont have much tunnel time, none of which has been headdown,...but there is a progression that you will have to follow before being allowed to try HD in the tunnel. I guess some tunnels will differ but the basic progression is to prove at lease semi profficiency flatflying, then walking, then backflying, then sitflying, then headdown. I dont think many people with 300 jumps (if your profile is correct?) would get through all that in 1 hour. Sorry I cant help with the other part of your question since I haven't gotten to the point of flying headdown in the tunnel yet.
  23. Cool, thanks. Im looking into moving there. It wont be anytime soon because these things take forever (visa's etc). But that's the plan.
