HAHAHA I would be mad if it happened now. I want to leanr HD first, so in case I do go in, I can do it HD. I'd feel sad for my family and friends - that is if they feel sad for me.... Otherwise, it would be my preffered method of exiting this world. I gotta die sometime, and I wanna enjoy the last minutes of my life. My dream way to go. I'll be 89 and go on a HD dive with all my best buddies. They can pull if they want to, and watch me go. Then put me on the bonfire that night, have a SMALL ceremony, have a few beers. The next day can be my ash-dive. I talk to ppl abt death and skydiving and they think I dont apreciate life. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE LIFE. I have been very blessed, but I think that death doesnt need to be so serious. I know I'll be in heaven, and the invitation is open for whoever wants to to join me. SO dont be sad. Some will advise you to get good at RW before you FF. Others will tell you opposite. As long as you do have FF safe gear (very important), I dont see the harm in trying. Its your money, spend it like you want to. You might not learn as quick as when you would have done RW first, but then you spent a bunch of jumps on RW. So get some gear and go for it in my opinion. I have seen several people FF very weel with not very many jumps to have learned it in. The biggest concern remains safety, and if in doubt, dont. Talking to your instructors is also invaluable. Watch a lot of video too, I have learned an incredible amount from videos. I know i will probably get attacked here, so go for it. I did a 2 way with a RB this weekend. Do i simply need to do a shot of tequila with him to become a RB? I would think that the "initiation" would be more than that. Sparky, i believe there might be a miscalculation in your theory. I talk with respect here, and i'm simply suggesting this, not attacking you, i will gladly take a correction. If you were to flat pack, you could measure the canopy from nose to tail, and it would measure 13 feet - The cord. When you pro-pack, the whole parachute is compressed. The nose is inbetween you knees, and the tail is on or close to the ground (on sucha big beast). I put a picture on here, maybe it will clarify things. I'm simply saying that the cord does not fit in the calculation directly, but very inderectly. A shorter packer is more concerned with the distance from the A line attachment point to the tail, which would still be compressed because of the tension on the B, C and D lines. Makes sense? It will be a very complicated formula to work out the distance. I can pro pack a 400 without it touching the floor. The A line attachment points are at my shoulders, but I can do it. If I can, anyone roughly my size can (a couple or three inches aren't gonna make any difference) As for the wingspan, I dont see how that comes into play except for adding to the volume of material inbetween attachment points. Cool, I see what you are saying. I like MP3's - can I hook it up to my stereo and get good sound right? I also like a nice big screen, which I can also add right? It will take a (LONG!) while before I shoot good enough footage to put it into a movie and edit it, so that is something I can invest in later. Not too worried about it now. I am freaked out by all the numbers and dont know what is what anymore. I used to. So.. I'm in college and need a computer. There are plenty of computers around campus, so I dont think I need a laptop. A desktop would also be easier to upgrade, and is usaully cheaper - right? All I need is FAST internet access.... MS WORD, EXCEL, Powerpoint, etc. I wanna also be able to burn CDs. Later on when I strap da camera to my head, I would like to play with editing and making movies. So what do you think I need, what kinda specifications? This is a deal my Dad found - they will pay for 2/3 of the computer. Dell Laptop; 14” Display; 30Gb Hard Drive; 256 M Memory; Windows XP; Read/Write CD. Auryn makes really good points here that I was going to post anyhow. As you see here, some people like one way, others prefer a different way. Thus, I say, do both and see what YOU like. I had a brand new 400sq. ft. ZP to pack to other day, and I PRO-packed it no prob. (I am also 6'1, that makes a dif.) The TM said it opened beautifully. For the same reasons as Auryn, I pro pack 'em. I know exactly what I am doing when I pro pack and I can do it in half the time. Just my preferance. Actually, in the USA an "A" license is free. An instructor administers the tests then signs and stamps the yellow card. That is a complete and valid "A" license. The 20.00 fee is just if you want to get a number and register the license with USPA, and while that may be required by a local DZ, it is not required by USPA.
