  2. and by you and dont you forget that mister! Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  3. well you will be happy to know that Matt has upsized... he upsized to a 103 Velo :-P I myself am having a great time on the 129 still...did some coaching in Zhills and am very happy with the results... and dont worry I wont crater myself :-P again that is :-P Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  4. and there is this cool guy Chuck who is more than willing to talk to you about questions you have as I now know from personal experience.... and a shitload of people at the two dz's I jump at most of the time are always willing to help me learn more...I have taken a canopy course and learned a lot from it, but that was after hours and hours of free coaching at my regular DZ's The earliest one of course being Capt Kim running out onto the landing area screaming flare you fucking pussy flare...(thanks Kimmy) Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  5. relaxing helps :-P I find as soon as I tense up I start to suck :-P Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  6. I would recommend maybe a light difference like a semi elliptical...try a sabre2 170 or a sabre 2 150, great canopies to learn to swoop on, those were my intro to swooping, I learned mostly on the sabre2 170 and then moved on to the 150 sabre 2 and then went to the elliptical canopies...and I have to say that I learned most of what I know about swooping on the 170 Sabre 2...now it is just working the setup... so there is no real reason to downsize just yet until you have rung out your current canopy, which it sounds like you havent...and if you do start swooping remember to do some carving turns and not the pull and pray type...and if you dont know the difference read Brian Germains Book Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  7. this is from an advanced canopy course I took 3 days ago at Zhills Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  8. there is never any exact number, I know that a lot of my aches and broken legs could have been avoided if I listen more and waited a while to start swooping.... at altitude it is great to learn how your cnaopy flies with all inputs, but I would say try not to get into swooping just yet, I would say think against it in fact for righ tnow, but remember your invincible days are not too far off :-P Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  9. yeah I know someone who loves there 7 degree turn... she has been talking about upgrading to the 9 degree turn, but I guess thats why she has like 10,000+ skydives :-P Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  10. and to be truthfull...thats what it took me, and unfortunately titanium seems to add a certain wisdom factor to people who didnt listen, and THEN they seek the neccesairy advice and coaching to not do it again.... I wish I had video of me laying around last winter instead of being at a holiday boogie high on perkacete and drinking guiness in my bed hopping up and down 2 flights of stairs carrying food upstairs to my bed etc etc etc to send the original poster to show how much glory is involved in not listening :-P oh well Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  11. see I still like my slow carving 180s and probably will for quite some time...although I have been pcking them up a bit... Nnext shot to work on my 180s right hand...that will be on solo hop and pops...which will lead me into the left hand pattern 270... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  12. I think per capita of jumpers they jump their ass off... and then they do things like combine clubs get disounted airfare and coe to arizona in March and jump their asses off too... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  13. tell him he has a lot more to learn on the 119 safire or maybe even a slightly bigger wing before the crosffire... I learned what I kow about swooping on a sabre 2 170 weighing about the same and loved swooping that thing.... then I moved to the 150 for 150 jumpish and then the crossfire2... but learn on the safire (if not a larger size) cause if you dont titanium really fucks up your dancing moves which does not I repeat does not improve your luck with the ladies... and if all that stuff passed along doesnt help ask him for his measurements...and order a wheelchair and get a video camera to film it...and then just put him in the pond when he biffs Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  14. ah yes...I remember when Brian showed up at Sussex and was laughing at me and my other 200 jump wonders thinking of downsizing and he and his friend greg were like wow and to think we are all upsizing :-P and a month later I broke my leg Of course I wasnt taking Brians Course, nor had I read his book, which I did read like 6 times while laying around that winter cursing the metal in my leg...and now almost 300 jumps later I actually do fit into the list and I am jumping some smaller shit for my weight...so there... BTW I am like 205 or 210 out the door on a 129... Dave Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  15. I had a set of 18s a while ago by strange fortune and noticed that in front riser turns that the harness input was a lot better... I did switch to longer risers and have since moved to mostly harness based turns... What were your reasons for the shorter risers... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  16. Being on Brian Germains email list, I had the rgeat fortune of receiving and reviewing the WL Chart that he is submitting to the USPA to try to actually put some numbers to this situation...instead of complaining about it, lets work with each other to try to do something about it (and yes I fit into the WL chart that Brian is submitting) I think if I recall correctly there are less injuries in sweden due to canopy overprogression than there are here, partially due I am sure to training and partially due to the wingloading laws. I have been involved in some discussions recently where we talked about the USPA ads for the reprints of the article "Femur is not a Verb" what we noticed about it is that instead of focusing on the issues of canopy control within the student progression they seemed to focus on Canopy COurses offered by people such as Scott Miller...now while I myself feel that these courses are a great boon to ones canopy skills, I do feel that we need to make begginer jumpers understand the concept of canopy flight a bit more before unleashing them upon us, when I think back to my first jumps as a newly released A licensee, I shudder and wish I had known more... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  17. Hey man beer is health food... as long as it is good beer...notice I didnt say go out and drink three cases of MGD... Seriously I heard it said somewhere to use the longest risers that you can reach the dive loops with... personally I jsut flew a set of 18s on my Crossfire2 and although I liked the amount of harness I could give, I did not like the Recovery arc... moved back to 21s and had to relearn the turns...I think I am going to see what I can do on the riser length beyond that... cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  18. and dont forget the 2-3 cases of guiness bottles a week!!! Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  19. I convinced the guy who took my X-Rays to come skydiving the next summer ;) and he did Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  20. My first post was in Jan 2004 I had 78 jumps or so and had just gotten back from my first boogie and my first triup away from my home DZ the ranch... since then I have owned 4 containers 4 parachutes started swooping broken my leg stopped swooping learned to listen to people with more experience stopped smoking pot started swooping again learned about carving turns and harness put in 460ish skydives moved elliptical learned how to fly headdown learned how to sitfly without arms done a bit more belly flying learned how to track like a bat out of hell walked on topskins pulled at 13500 like 25 or so times got some titanium learned that having titanium is not good for dancing to techno learned that having titanium isnt good for having sex standing up learned that having titanium sucks all around figured out that tryign to tell others not to do something is like telling them to do it and that sometimes you need to show them why not to do it and explain to them why in great detail so that they get it, and even then mother earth might have to teach em the hard way. Lost my driving license twice for paying my manifest bill before my car insurance man in two years it has been a great journey... and a painful one at times... most of all I learned that it is about surviving in this sport, not rushing it... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  21. no but apparently it makes your copopular gland bigger :-P http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  22. hmmm dependant on a few more things... for instance I flew a Crossfire2 149, riser pressure was light as hell...then i flew a 129 Crossfire2 Riser pressure was much greater... until I learned how to use my harness :-P Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  23. Riser pressure gets less with better technique... when I first got on my 129 Crossfire2 I was like damn the riser pressure gets crazy...then my technique got better adding harness and whatnot and it got better... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  24. and dont forget to tell him to tighten his closing loop most likely ;) Cheers dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  25. I will add my $0.02 do high pulls with a friend and fly around agressively from 13500 or if thats too much for you make it 9K or something :-) I found that nothing helped my canopy flying more that pulling high with my buddy matt and chassing each other around the sky... if you are uncomfortable ding it with one of your buddies, find a coach or someone at your dz and ask him if he would be interested in doing it... Cheers, fly aggressively safe and read brian germains book (god if I keep saying that people are going to start acusing me of being Brian Germain in sheeps clothing or something like they did for that matter guy ;)) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
