  1. heh a lot more.... once you pull it down and stick it behind your neck it flattens the canopy more and actually lets it fly better... also I hope when it stops you have bumpers on, I could send you a ppicture of what happens when the slider sticks one of your brakes while flaring ;) just one of the reasons I like it all the way down... dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  2. jump 21 but I have since gone back and learned to fly my belly a bit more since flying on your belly is part of freeflying... Thank you Skinner for making us do belly exits in the freefly league...an important lesson learned... also what happens when you are freeflyer wanting to do hybrids ;) cheers and blues Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  3. My first rig was a javelin...I liked it but it tended to shift around on my body even thought the harness size was right. I contemplated buying a Mirage as my second rig...I really did...but once I put on the Odyssey I fell in love with it. it is comfy...it stays in place in a great way even when doing a lot of flips and transitions at high speeds. If you have a problem with your flap staying closed, try putting the flap between the other flaps and not just under all of them and it will stay closed...and also check your closing loop length...
  4. I upsized to this canopy from a Pilot 150 and on my first landing noticed that I get a lot more turf surf out of the canopy loading at about 1.3 I found that for the first 50 jumps it tended to pull a 180 on opening but that knocking out 50 jumps in 2 weeks took care of that. Much easier to pack than the Pilot. and an all around great canopy. Note...I have also flown a 210 Sabre2 and a 190 Sabre2 which also were great canopies loaded a little more conservatively.
  5. hmmm I think I notice most of the big guys that are considered awesome fliers using more fabirc like bells and what not...myself i have a slimmer cut suit but with double layers....and I sitll have to fly daffy or real wide to keep myself below 200... cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  6. yeah I have the freefly handle and I like it a lot , but I have noticed that it is a little harder to reach...but I found that if I do a practice touch and wrap my middle and index finger around it I seem to remember where it is and can get to it easily at pull time... 7. I like that ...I think it comes down to people not listening until they have met the titanium or the coffin ;) I know the titanium/not jumping all winter worked for me...and now I am jumping a larger canopy than before I downsized ;) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  8. you know its amazing...I did not really do any no contact crew until I met Jon Stewart at sussex this summer...what a great introduction, if you read this jonny thanks. I definately agree that not as much effort is put into what to do with your canopy except what not to do. Then of course the line slack argument...at 38 jumps I scared the dickens out of myself by line twisting a perfectly good canopy at around 1500 ft above sandhill road...boy did I learn lmy lesson as I kicked out and entered the pattern late... at a similar time, I met a guy by the name of Tom Rose (brilliant photographer btw), he introduced me to a game known well at the ranch as "win tom's money". This game involves landing in the pea pit. He gets 2 dollars if you land out of the peas. you get one if you land in. and he critiques and teaches you for the "fee" I have to say that Tom Rose has given me the best accuracy teachings I have ever gotton since I entered the sport, and it has saved my ass when landing off at the ranch as well. More time needs to be spent on accuracy with students. For accuracy, the other tenements of canopy flying need to be addressed, one day it will either make or break them if they are given this time and effort. I have to say from Toms instruction and help, I have landed in the peas so many times and on so many different drop zones that I can literally and factually wrote in twenty jump numbers in a row and then 5 in a row for the rest when going for my C license. thanks Tom. Cheers and Blues. Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  9. yeah well when the DZ that is 30 minutes from your house closes for some reason through the winter and you are then forced to drive to the ranch....you get happy when The other white meat decides to send a plane to the dropzone that is twenty minutes from our house ;) so there :-P I was all about maybe seeing ya all jumping insteading of moping but whatev :-D Cheers (and no not flaming just being my silly ass self again, but feel free to flame, I dont really care) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  10. Hey all the Northern New Jersey Crew who is dropzoneless due to Skies the Limit (Newton) "closing" till february... Sussex is open tomorrow with either a skyvan or a caravan, cannot confirm which right now, but one person said one and another said the other... Come out and Jump... Dave (I dont work for the dropzone, just a public service announcement for the homeless jumpers) http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  11. FYI Newtonians, Sussex is open tomorrow on saturday with a skyvan or caravan..hoe to see you there... Cheers and Blues... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  12. I had heard the same, and I was bummed cuz I had a jump ticket on accoutn and it is close, although I wount be jumping until january anyway. stupid fib ;) I even tried to get a 182 in sussex for the de-dropzoned newtonians ;) PS how you doing bubbles??? Cheers and blues... Skyjunky Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  13. go to Skydive Hawaii, and talk to Jonny Stewart, he is working over there and a hella nice guy. I was supposed to be there but I broke my leg instead. also make sure you make first laod as apparently it gets really windy after that. Cheers and Blues. 14. I just went and bought myself a slim suit I weigh in at 195 and am 6', I fly with guys who are 130 and wearing tight jump clothes... I only have 250 jumps and can fly with people of all sizes already because I never let size or jump suit get in the way cuz I never knew it did. I personally like the slimmer suit because it allows you to really dial in the position and learn it no slop style. and after jumping it twice I have since retired my ultra baggy freefly pants. Cheers and blues Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  15. man I watched a guy have a preemie in a sit....wooohoooo the look on his face was priceless... and if you notice it, you should mention it, there are two types of bad advice, bad advice for not even considering it and bad advice for not giving it when you know. (even if they are skygods ;) ) and this post goes out to a gentleman who kept his mouth shut when I was doing something stupid and waited until I told him I would love to hear people say something to me if they noticed. Cheers, Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  16. thanks I went and got the pd line chart for the canopy and will be checking the trim on the steering lines before I jump it next. Cheers. Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  17. Hey all, I just recently took a Stiletto 150 out for a test drive. So went to use the front risers and noticed that the pressure was way more than the Sabre 150 that I have been flying, is there a reason for that? From what I have heard that is not how it is supposed to be. Any ideas?
