  1. I agree, but look at the entire picture. From what I've been reading gangs and organized crime are involved in dogfighting, in a way Vick supported them with his involvement in it. IMO Vick should never be allowed to play in the NFL again. Make an example out of him. I'm sick of celebrities and super star athletes getting second, third and fourth chances.
  2. Got work in a few hours, plus it's so freaking hot right now in So Cal.
  3. Very well put, and the following backs up what you're saying. It's using 80 years worth of history. http://www.icmarc.org/xp/rc/marketview/chart/2006/20060616sp500snapshots.html I've used the S&P 500 since the Dow is not really representative of our markets. If you're a long-term investor you'll be fine.
  4. Not for the CEO, he just cashed in stock for $13mil. What a job, company performs poorly and you still get millions. IMO pay for such high level execs should be performance based.
  5. We're not talking about retirement, just stating some facts about the FDIC and our banking system. I, like most Americans and pretty much the World have confidence in our economy, stock market and banking system. What happened the last week or two was a simple correction movement. Look at how most of the major indices ended up today. http://quotes.nasdaq.com/asp/GlobalIndices_World.asp
  6. I've never heard that before. Check the FDIC's website I didnt find anything stating that they had 100 year window to pay you off. Usually what happens if your bank becomes insolvent is that either the FDIC will pay off all deposits or an open bank will purchase all the assets of the failed entity and assume your deposit.
  7. Like another posted stated it would take a catastrophic event for our economy to enter a great depression. What happened to the markets the last week or two is simply a correction. The whole Country Wide debacle spooked a lot of investors. Our economy survived the junk bonds of the 1980's, the dot com of the 1990's, 9/11, now its the sub-prime mortgage loans. God only knows what the major financial event of the 2010's will be. I'm not worried nor should anyone with less than 100K in the bank. All bank accounts are protected under the FDIC. Even some IRA and Keoghs accounts are insured up to 250K.
  8. "I just can't catch a god damned break here. Everybody's out to get Hitler" "I might as well change my fucking screen name to Donkey Hitler" This video is too funny.
  9. I'm right there with you and Tom too. I just so sad that so many people suffered because of the actions of a few truly sick and evil men. I dont agree with capital punishment, but in all honesty I think the Emperor should've been hung for his actions during the war. But that's a whole different topic.
  10. You might also want to add a little bit of vodka or tequilla to some salsas. Tomatoes contain alcohol-soluble flavors and can only be tasted in its presence.
  11. Oh I got an even better name and awesome story. Frosh year from Uni I got a second job at a catering company. Long story short we had a booth at a wedding convention. Next to our booth was a company pitching low fat pastries, cakes and chocolate fountains. The attendants name was Precious (she was pushing 250lbs+) and during a break went and bought some fried chicken and would periodically dip it into the liquid chocolate fountain on display and eat it. My boss saw this and wanted to know her story. So at the end of the day starts a conversation with her and we learn that she has a sis who works for the same company and her name is Gorgeous.
  12. I met a Kentuckey Jones once and she spelled it that way too.
  13. There is no comparison between WWII and the current situation. You should also study the list of cities that were possible targets. One in particular was not chosen because of its cultural and religious significance. Many thought that destroying this city would've infuriated the Japanese. Why should we destroy a city and kill thousands maybe tens of thousands for the acts of a few nut jobs. You also advocate using a nuclear weapon. Are you serious? Do you have any idea what the repercussions of that would be. I wonder if you would feel the same if Saudi Arabia had a few nukes.
  14. I think this is true with the older Mercedes, but the newer ones are plagued with problems. My friend bought a brand new C230 in 2006. Here's a list of problems he has had: 1. replaced the radiator at 30K miles. 2. A/C problems at 20K miles. 3. Has had to replace the battery 3 times in the last 12 months. Mercedes doesnt know why the battery doesnt hold a charge. My old boss bought his wife I think it was the SL 55, $95K dollar car. Well one day she was about to get on the freeway and ALL the airbags deployed. Quality control across the whole Mercedes Benz line has declined in the last couple of years.
  15. Yes, the Taliban is outnumbered but they have a huge amount of money from opium and heroin. Last I read Afghanistan remained the world's largest producer of opium in 2006 (over 90%), and is also the largest heroin producing and trafficking country in the world. It's a vicious circle of drugs funding terrorism, and terrorist supporting drug trafficking. IMO we took our eyes off the real threat when we invaded Iraq and allowed time for the Taliban to regroup and rise up again.
  16. No not at all. I didn't mean it that way. I have a degree in finance, worked in the field for over six years and helped manage an index. It just pissed me off when people w/o any finance knowledge pounce on any investor and judge them. The individual investor is not accountable in my view. If Alcatel is really supporting Iran and terrorist activities then why havent the major players done something about it. IMO the original author has zero knowledge in finance. All he or she needed to do was Google the major holders of Alcatel stock and they would see the truth.
  17. You're also talking about Morgan Stanhley $226M, Fidelity $1.117B, Goldman Sachs $78M. ALL major investment banks in the USA, not a mere 15K. So should they all cash out and invest in something else. FYI Alcatel is probably in a MSCI index, so should they take it out. Also Alcatel is traded on the NYSE. Should the NYSE take it off the board. Before you pounce on someone you guys should do little more research. The world of finance is not simple black and white, and a bit more complicated than someone owning a mere $15k shares in a multi-national company. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/mh?s=ALU
  18. Nope. Would not want to get involved in any drama. We're all adults living in the 21rst century. If you're gonna sleep around and not be safe about it you're an idiot.
  19. From the reviews I've read everything from the WSJ to Newsweek the iPhone is a hit. The only problem is the network. If the phone is not using wifi it's VERY slow. It can take up to 2 minutes to load Yahoo's home page.
  20. Not really. The core is made up of over 29 muscles and like all the other muscles you need to work them out. Yes, you might hit a few of them with other exercises but they will act as stabilizers and if weak you will get hurt. Look at someone that is doing a simple benchpress. Most guy will really lift the lower back off the bench when they lift the bar. That is a sign of a weak core, so much pressure is being put in the lower back. Same is true when you do simple seated dumbell raises. Why do you think so many people have lower back problems, they have a weak core.
  21. Whenever I say that to my folks their reply is: El diablo sabe más por viejo que por diablo. Roughly translated to: The Devil knows more because he is old than because he is the Devil
  22. Talk to a trainer. If you can pay for one or two training sessions go for it. This will save you time, money and will prevent you from developing bad form. If you're experiencing neck or lower back pain from crunches STOP and talk to a trainer. It's really hard to explain proper form over the internet. You need someone to sit down with you and show you how they are done.
  23. Read up on Albert Pierrepont. He's credited with the fastest execution in British history, I think it was a littler under 7 seconds.
  24. I agree. But you have to realize there are some jobs Americans will not do. Pick up a copy of Fast Food Nation and just read the part on the meat packing industry. Also on the money going away to Mexico and other countries, trust me it comes back to us. I was in Central America last year. In a major department store the preferred currency was USD. They had Maytag appliances, Levis, Hanes, etc. Actually it's more detrimental to their economy than ours. They have a huge influx of USD into their economy thats not taxed nor was generated in the country.
  25. Yeah we will. But you'll be bitching about paying extra for everything from a simple burger to a hotel room. Bottom line is our economy needs them, and you also want to pay the least for food and services. Check this article out. http://www.greeleytrib.com/article/20061226/NEWS/112230087&SearchID=73281214662644 Would you be willing to pay extra for food and services knowing that the labor used was legal? Bottom line to illegal labor is money. It saves a s*&tload of money and it's passed on to the consumers.
