Interesting points being raised but Hikkaduwa is on the West coast of Sri Lanka so he would have got wrap around swell rather than the direct brunt of the tsunami. I doubt if he would have rode it in because the period of the wave is so long it would have sucked the reef dry (it's only 3-4ft deep anyway) and would be going way too fast. Mavericks and Jaws pick up swells of 20-30s periods which gives the 60ft faces. This would effectively had a 200-500 second period given the speeds quoted. He would have been positioned for groundswell and this wave would have broken way outside of him. Maybe he just hung on for grim death then got washed up the beach. You know what the press is like - after "XXXX died after his parachute failed to open blah blah blah", how can you believe anything these guys write? Sri Lanka surfing rocks. I was gutted when I got the news.

My advice is: Don't live in London. and definitely don't go anywhere near anyone called Bob even if he shares the surname of an actor and you think he's cute.

Getting a tuberide whilst surfing. It's such an unusual place to be. It's like watching those old B&W tellys when they switch off, the outside just disappears off as the wave breaks over your head. Also had a forced bivuac at 3400 m in the french alps whilst out mountaineering - brr!! Don't think I would want to do that again.

Sounds like porkies to me. A mate of mine refused about 3 times... still got his 'A' though... with a bit of patience and time from him and his instructors. I also refused to jump once and it's been no problems. Find yourself a friendler DZ! Good luck and stick with it... the reward is priceless!

Hey Nerd, Don't think you failed the jump... you jumped, lived and still have same number of bones in your body after the jump as before.. so that's a big PASS in my book. It just gives you extra time to get to know and appreciate your (and all) AFF instructors a bit more. BTW my exits still suck. take it easy and good luck for next time

Gotta second that Lillo recommendation. I did mine in Zhills but Dave works in Lillo now and he's one awesome AFFI. He's got some good flights sorted and the total cost of the trip will end up probably being as cheap as just the cost of the jumps in the UK.. and its warm to boot. He's totally dedicated to AFF. He doesn't do tandems etc, etc. so you get AFF 100%. Good luck!! Adam.

At the end of the video it looks as though he's going to double stow the mouthlock bungee... isn't this a bad idea? I have always been told that it's single stow on mouthlocks only otherwise it's an increased risk of baglock? Can anyone comment on this?
