0:5:0 I never seem to get any humping but certainly lots of jumping today. A total of 70400 ft of altitude. Yay!

Black Knights is good and they have a fast Porter and are still doing £18 jump tickets.. They lose the turbine at the end of september though Cark, about an hour further north has one though and that's available all year round. enjoy!!

Very true, chloride ions do not evaporate and I would well imagine we don't get as hot and wet as you guys over there. Naturally chlorides are present in all parts of the envionment so there is a (IMO low) risk of attack however such risk would be minor given the exposure level due to manual handling vs. the benefit of looking at them... After all there's all that pitting corrosion to check for though if I ever start seeing pitting on my watch strap I will have a look at my gear under the stereo. You don't know what grade of stainless rig manufacturers use? It would be interesting to see if they use a 316 or other more pitting resistant grade. I was tempted to have a look with the metascop if it didn't leave dirty great big black marks on the thing Good to see some skydiving metallurgist around...

Well, their 2yo daughter must be keeping them in check. I think she must be away. Maybe they think she needs a brother or sister...
-
Nope... they are still at it.. I guess the daughter must be with the grandparents.

... my neighbours are having sex.. and boy are they really going at it.. for like 10 minutes now. She's being loud (and quite religious too, by the sounds of it). How am I going to look at them the same way again? Jeez..

Stress corrosion cracking is only really an issue for austenitic stainlesses and some duplexes when exposed to stress, an environment containing chlorides (and these usually have to be dried to the surface of the metal) and most importantly temperatures between 70 and 140 degrees C for a fair old period of time. This is why they tend to appear at welds or heat-affected zones or other highly stressed regions. It's highly unlikely a 3 ring system would not be susceptible to cracking in this way. As far as pitting goes, it is possible for chlorides to provide localised breakdown of the oxide layer but this would require the presence of an electolyte and would take a considerable exposure time too. I am not worried about mine...

Wing owners – how do you pack your d-bag?
adamUK replied to skip's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I believe that the right flap is cloesd first as this gives a more snug fit to the bridle as it is routed to the mouth of the PC pouch... Again, I spotted the difference between the words and the picture in the owners manual and Ankie kept me right... right then left.. -
Just in case you didn't know how it works (NSFW)

Sorry to be a saddo, but... The honeycomb (screen) and contraction are the bits that give you an even velocity profile across the test section (the bit you fly in), as you increase the distance from these, friction losses at the wall and between airflows at different velocities tend to produce a velocity profile that's much higher in the centre of the section than the outer edge, in the extreme, the centre velocity being twice the mean velocity. Hence the reason why the 'fly' areas in wind tunnels tend to be just above the contraction. I would be surprised if your velocity profile remained consistent 70 ft up in a sub 15ft dia. tunnel. "Internal Flow Systems" by DS Miller (1990) is a good introductory text to the behaviour of compressible flow, if you are interested!! It's also a good way of curing insomina as well. love and kisses Ad.
