  1. Does anyone know about the incident that drove this? Did the “hesitation” lead to a fatality? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  2. First of all remember this is simply unofficial skydiving website/chat board. Most active skydivers I know, even if they are registered here, don't visit on a regular basis. So while I know frequent visitors to this site think different, this website is in no way a widely accepted forum for reporting incidents. The vast majority of serious injuries I see never make it on here. Pretty well all fatalities do end up here, however. The USPA has an official process for dissecting and reporting on fatalities and prevention. While not everyone agrees it is the best way, IT IS the formal process for the sport in the US. The main reason that frequent users of this site seem to think more injuries should be reported here is simply the users’ overestimate of the importance of this site. Because THEY are users and contributors they think everyone else should be also. This is a normal human thought process and not a slur or a judgment. It’s just the way the human mind operates. I don’t myself see DZO’s or S&TA’s intentionally hiding incidents, although I’m sure a few do. Probably most just don’t see that it is fruitful to post on this website or ever even think to do so; as again this site is just not that important in most people’s minds in the sport. Throw in the level of discourse here is frequently rather base or relegated to shouting matches and that sometimes the “group think” here comes up with some pretty bizarre conclusions about things and I don’t see why much of anyone would bother to post about incidents here. It just doesn’t serve much of any purpose. Finally, most injuries are the same handful of issues over and over - alpha male flying tiny canopy trying to swoop too soon, etc. I’m not saying that more reporting of incidents and discussion of them is a bad thing, quite to the contrary. But there are plenty of reasons that you don’t see more of it here. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  3. There is a school of thought that even with training on how to use one students are more likely to misuse one than properly use one. I.e. die trying to do mid air rigging as opposed to just cutting away a simple main mal. I'm not saying I agree with it but few schools equip students with knifes. 4. Better Yet check out http://www.adseyewear.com/ It's owned by Dave D. who is a very experienced skydiver. He specializes in prescription sports eye wear. And most importantly he will know exactly what will work well for skydiving and what wont. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. 5. I agree and I finally understood something you said. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  6. I'm calling absolute BS on you. I guess a guy creating a new username feels free to skew the facts and slander people. 1. Honesty - The P3 group sent out refunds at people’s request. I got mine long ago. Many people chose to have the funds applied to future P3 events. So what if they deposited checks? There is nothing wrong with that. EVERYONE was asked what they wanted done with their funds on account and I don’t know anyone that didn’t have their request fulfilled. 2. Future Events – Yes P3 and BJ are both having a number of events to keep people current on big way skills. So what? Attend if you want, don’t attend if you don’t want. 3. Big Way Cancellations - Let’s see Thailand 2010/2011 got canceled, Dubai 253 2012 and Qatar 2012 all got canceled. The P3, 253 way was the only event that people received refunds for their plane tickets. I personally feel I’ve been treated quite fairly by the organizers about the Dubai 253. I don’t see your complaints have ANY validity. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  7. This the "heavy set" guy that came down from the North West to get his license, correct? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  8. Divorce "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  9. Silly question. Of course you MUST have the facial piercings first. It's technically a issue of aerodynamics. The piercings provide some sort of air deflection, which is why you can also only FF in an open face helmet. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. 10. There is a new highrise under construction in that area. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  11. No it's a D license and a 1,000 jump award. Have you thought of just doing what it takes to get a D license? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  12. Yeah, but you're old now..... "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  13. I hope it's as pretty as this one - 80 way Texas Star, at Skydive Dallas. Damn, I look good in that pic! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  14. Yes, just learn the "go around" signal and give it to the pilot on every other jump. Trust it they will love me...um, I mean YOU for it. ;-) Hmm, I wonder who you are taking about here. And they all think they don't need any training they "had a D license" 10 years ago. Always! Or that they will listen anyway... No additional comment needed "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  15. Mike, you keep borrowing my Rig and I'll borrow your girlfriend! She's hot! You better keep an eye on her around the DZ. Oh and BTW: The rigger said you owe him and extra $50 for all the mud he had to clean off my rig when he repacked it. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  16. Bill Legard at Aerodyne is offering FREE Pilots and SMARTS with every 50% off rig purchased today! But you have to call his personal phone number! It's just a joke people don't do it! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  17. Or instead of stealing you could just buy copies legally. If you can afford to skydive you can probably afford to pay the people that put the time and effort into producing and distributing them. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  18. The manufacturer posts its manuals for free download. It explains how to change the visor, and includes pics to help. http://www.parasportitalia.com/inglese/downloads/z1hp.pdf "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. 19. and what with the shipping time and cost? What about asking your rigger about estimated time to get your CYPRES back before sending it ? Can the OP not jump without ? No possibility to have a replacement AAD during that time ? I am all for people taking holidays, but its not the best idea to have them all take them at once! The rigger did not know all engineers would take a 2 week holiday while my cypres was there. Since im only A cert, i cant jump without one at my DZ. Im not in any rush for it to come back, I was just suprised they all took their holidays at once, leaving all work at a stand still. It's a Europe thing and you know it. In America we hardly get vacation as we work ourselves to death. Average number of week of vacation in the USA 2, in Europe 8. I've worked with some European companies and they virtually shut down in August. Don't get me wrong I'm not Euro bashing it's just a statement! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  20. 10" vs 10' just like the problem in Spinal Tap! That's one small Stonehenge! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  21. And don't forget Dallas has sent it's caravan to SD Temple in the recent past when Temple had plane problems. This kept Dallas from flying as many loads as it could with both of it's turbines. Dallas sends it's Otter to Spaceland in the past before Spaceland bought so damn many planes. ;-) to help with the TSR. Etc... Personally, the Texas DZ do a pretty good job of working with each other in spite of the fact that they are in a sense competing business. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  22. I've had a number of similar situations usually because they are pilots (with a whopping 40 or 50 hours) or do paragliding. The answer is always "No." Usually something a bit more diplomatic like, "That experience will be helpful to your learning progression, but to be safe and make sure you haven't missed anything we do need to have you sit through our FJC and do several jumps on the AFF progression with our instructors. If your performance proves you can safely skip some levels we will gladly allow you to do so but only based on demonstrated performance to our AFFI's in the air." If the argument continues I ask what the proper procedure is for different 2 canopy out situations, which they never know. I then go on to explain the requirements for an A license which does require jumps with instructional rating holders, etc. Most of them end up doing poorly on the first jump, some not even pulling for themselves. They usually don't argue after that about how the progression will work from there if they ever return at all. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  23. I'm sure he's just providing a warning based upon the incidents that he knows of personally, and the drop zones nearby. I don't think you should accuse him of not caring about skydivers anywhere else outside of Texas. There's skydiving outside of Texas? Hmm, go figure... "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  24. Nice post. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  25. Turn it to TAS first of all, SAS has some bizarre adjustments that no one knows what they are it's a pretty useless measure. Second at your weight in a "big AFF arch" you could be going that fast. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
