peterk: Let take this sentence which says a lot. ---------------------------------------- Bridge Day 2004, the World's Largest BASE Boogie, sponsored by the US National Park Service... ---------------------------------------- This is not aimed at you in particular. It may seem like I'm a asshole but this usually the way it goes. I have been to just a Few events. Put on by MANY PROMOTERS. IPBC, MIXSA, Go-Fast, Bridgedays, Turkey Boogies, Heliboggies, and a few rinky-dink skydive comps.... Bla...Bla...Bla - THEY ALL HAVE SOME RULES - The rules are... not there for you. The rules are... there for Them. They rules only... Affect You. An Event is a SHOW. just that a show / Entertainment You can headline it any TITLE. and call SHOW- any- NAME you want. The PROMOTER is the BOSS Always the BOSS **** The larger Events GO Something Like This **** You are there to entertain yourself. Some times I don't like what goes on. Some times I don't like the calls they make The show does not give a Crap how you FEEL The show does not give a Crap what you LIKE The show does not care if you kill yourself just don't kill a innocent spectator It's a Show, you are there for Yourself and Friend and you don't get to many choices, If you don't like the show then don't go. That's about the only choice you get.

    Pond flight

it's very easy to get carried away trying to reach the target in a wingsuit!!! ................................ Is it kind of like Target Fixation ?? was it a tunnel vision type thing where getting there is all you can see ?
  5. I hear ya....tymkoder It's kinda like real early on last Saturday morning. I hear my buddy banging on the door to pick me up to go jump. So I climb off the top, of my old lady. Throw her a Wash Cloth. Grab my gear and Run out to go jumping.
  6. I am a little self centered in my jumping. Do you think being an insensitive pig that does not talk enough....... Has anything to do with it ???
  7. motherhucker I don't know about getting balance on the feelings, but... Pullhigh, is getting off pretty easy I remember back when I came back from Malaysia for the second time, out of four. I walked into the house to find it cleaned out and dark and the little woman was gone.

    Cave base jump

Man U got to get rid of that picture. You are scaring the hell out of me.
  9. Ya.. I liked Fumio He was a kick in the Ass to be around and jump with. I saw your post and I immediately thought about a old e-mail that he sent to me shortly after that jump. This old mail is classic, Fumio I think that jump with Jeb also made an impression on him to. Sometimes I am glad I save old mail. When special people are gone. I can always look at it and smile . * I think the last paragraph is his impression of the jump. * I deleted a little of the message because it mentions specifics on buildings. ............................................ Hey Ray , How are your ribs cooking ? Manage things OK? Jeb and Iiro went back to KL to transit and fly out to one's destiny. We had 2 building jumps in Tokyo. First one was 240m building underconstruction but nearly finish and took us long time to find the way up because it is very wide so doesn't look high if you see it. Iiro and I did leapt together . I did 3 sds. slider up and Iiro 2sds. slider down. We landed OK but Iiro landed other side of building and I landed just in front of exit point . So I was filming Jeb's jump and took off my helmet and shooting him but security showed up and asked me " What 's wrong with you?" but I didn' say anything and kept ignorring the security until Jeb lands. My Japanes friend came to pick me up and so I put the helmet back and cover my face and jumped in the car and left the security. My friend is my base driver for more than 10 jumps so he knew what's up and didn't turn the light on so the license number cannot be seen. I got home about 4 am . It was tiring and hard to read the winds since there were many surroundings . Pretty hardcore. The second jump are from 200m building I have been jumping for 6 times so far . My jap skydive and base mentor joined the jump and 4 of us went up . It was Sunday 4:30am we got in the building and got to the top about 5:15 and waited about 1 hour to get sunrise my boss jumped first since he has not jumped B from the date USA attacked Affganistan . He did good 3 sds. with slider up. Iiro jumped solo next did 2 sds. no slider . Jeb and I jumped together and I filmed his backfilp exit and I smoked it down too much and neary go in. I had only 5 sds. canopy ride without any turn. I have to count well next jump. Jeb has a footage of my head cam he can send you if you want to see it. I guess I finish now . How is my English writting? See you sometime , somewhere my friend !! Also get well and go back to parachuting. Fumio Kubo
  10. pgpilot.... "The other day I had 540 degrees of line twists on a terminal jump." .............................................................. One more thing that I was rolling around in my head today. about your, Line Twists. Just a thought. If you are possibly using a Pilot Chute that is a little to large for that speed of delay in Free Fall. You could be having, Center Cell Strip. Known for, Off heading and line twist.
  11. pgpilot.... "I noticed that my tailpocket velcro had opened about 30% of the bottom edge (more than ever before) indicating a partial line dump... or something..." ........................................ I have always been under the impression that worn out Velcro on the Tail pocket promotes line dump and possible line twists ???? That is the rule that I was taught and pretty much live by. How is the condition of your Velcro on your tail pocket ?
  12. Wind is one of the out things that I meant by ( Outside Influence ). Outside influence can also include how pinned out you are (nervous) on a jump, To what you get to stand on when you launch from the Tower. Cross brace, Light Box, Crow's Nest, etc. for a foot hold. Just my opinion but.... I feel that the, "Random Black Death Factor" that tries to kill us. Has about as much relevance on a jump as...... ... Magic. Air speed of Free Fall, to the speed of the relative tail wind, Plus... You need to stage a Firm, Slider-up opening. Not a ball buster, Not a Snivel. Let the canopy hang around as little as possible on opening for the least amount of that outside influence of wind. Might be the best combination ?
  13. The Petronas, Partial line-over that cleared was mine. I have had another partial line-over line over that cleared using no Tape. on video also. Both partial Line-overs cleared them self between pressurization and un-stowing the Toggles. Also.... My pack jobs were text book with strong delay. I have personally seen a few line-overs start and clear on other jumpers and several on video over the years. I think that the partial line-over that clears by it self, between pressurization and un-stowing the Toggle's. *** Happens more than jumpers are aware of..*** I have learned a bunch since I have been using masking tape on Break lines to retard the tail on opening and let the nose and pressurization get the dominate lead on the opening. To stop the Partial line-over that clears by it self, and/or stopping the line-over from happening. The biggest mistake that I made was to **Grossly Underestimate ** the power that the tail of the canopy has when it busts open on a Slider Up jump. Since then I have almost doubled the number of raps of tape to different Free Fall air speeds of canopy delay's. I feel that I was NOT using near enough tape. I also feel that retarding the opening of the tail on slider up jumps has a direct effect on the line-over factor. Also, be aware that Taping the break lines has a direct effect on the speed at which the canopy stages it opening. That is why between using, Direct Slider control, Primary line stow and tape on Break line's. I don't roll the Nose of the canopy and rap the center cell around the pack job on Terminal speed Free Fall on my, un-valve V-Tec's to get smooth controlled opening. Not having to roll the nose on terminal air speed jumps I feel adds a better chance of a good Heading on opening. This is not a scientific study. Just Trial and Error, jump by jump.
  14. Dude, Ya... had me, only slightly concerned for your well being only as far as your Growing BASE skills, But it sounds like you got a good handle on your First Wingsuit, Cliff, Base with a new virgin pin Rig, never jumped, before you left. Nice job.... see..ya...soon
  15. Perhaps we ought to start another thread on opening headings? Seems like a bit off thread drift here. .................. Man.... don't split it up Heading are on every object. It would be a major plus to see different people's mechanical Habits On Antenna jumps. I would like to add a few theries of wind and exit Also speed at which your canopy stages & opens to freefall body speed in relationship to speed of cranking tail winds on Tower jumps. when I get a chance to type more latter ............................................ base- 813 I have always been of the belief that pack jobs are low down on the list for off heading problems: Body positioning and Awarness is a greater value than pack job. 40 % - Pack Job 10 % - Out side Influence 50 % - Body Positioning and Awareness (just my opinion)
  16. I tell you what, 180's are weird and unpredictable. I went through 300 jumps before my 1st, 180. I have also had 2 in one week off the same Antenna / object. It was not the pack job. It was all me, My choices and conditions, I chose to jump in.
  17. Also.... How do you think, You Qualify to be Free-Falling 240 Ft. with your lack of BASE skills ...??????? ...................................................... Hey...swOOPS my apologies, I honest did not mean to discredit your level of intelligence. At times I can have a slight abrasive approach to communication. I would like to rephrase ...Your Lack of BASE skills ..To..... Enthusiasm and Thirst for Acquiring the Proper Knowledge and skills for.... Ground Rush. I do have a honest concern for your over enthusiasm for the Ultra-Low BASE. It is something that the majority of BASE jumpers go through. The knowledge and the details of how to do, Low Free-Fall, is out for you to see. a lot of qualified jumpers have already done the Ultra-Low, Free Fall. Most of them will gladly share that knowledge with you. When you cross that line and start free falling into the sub 300 ft. That means 299 ft. or less combined with exiting a object that is still behind you after opening. Everything has to work out in your favor after you let go of the Pilot Chute. If I did not like you I would not care. Once again my humblest apologies. ....Raymond Losli

    Hawk vs Canopy

Man I was wondering if you were still alive. Doing your first Cliff, wingsuit, and with a new virgin pined Rig that you just got a couple days before you left and never jumped. That is the coolest thing I have ever heard of getting snagged and caught inside a canopy. As good as getting the head of a climber on a wall, snagged on a wall strike. PS; Since you are not around at the DZ. Skydive / Joe Weber was forced to do a wingsuit jump with me yesterday and he was not looking to happy. Especially since I screwed the exit.
  19. Mr. swOOPS don't take this as negative criticism. This is just my way of showing positive reinforcement. I dont mean to crawl up your ass about this. I have looked at Antenna, guy wire close up and they look pretty mean. SwOOPS.... Your first mistake was jumping a Dagger. Not for the off-headings but it has shitty low air speed inflation qualities. PLUS...... 240 Ft. you will not get much of a response from that Bed Sheet your flying, using the Rear Risers. on a Hand Held exit. I really doubt that you could have turned it around enough. Even your best canopy pilots using a quality vented canopy. With a tuned deep brake setting. Going Immediately to slamming the Toggles down and trying to crank it around. I guarantee that he would be sweating it a bit, to say the least, At 240 Ft. Unless he had a Nice stiff, tail-wind splitting between the wires to help him get good separation when the fabric started to deploy and stage up for inflation. Would be more in his favor but still very tight. Also.... How do you think, You Qualify to be Free-Falling 240 Ft. with your lack of BASE skills ...??????? Free-Falling 240 ft. does not sound like any big deal these days. Unless you have a Problem. Then its pretty F##king Major. And being able to fly a high performance skydive canopy does not mean jack-shit in the Sub-300 ft. free-fall world. Or for being able to fly a BASE canopy. Also.... Antenna are Not the most dangerous objects to jump. You just did not play the game right. That really shows your lack of BASE jumping skills right there. But....good job on getting out of your situation and being able to talk about it and hopefully learn from it.
  20. I only did this twice out of a moving balloon. I totally exit the opposite, Leg wing open full. Arms wings open but at a relaxed swept back angle. It was the same technique I saw many BASE wing-suit users do in Norway. Hopping off the basket at a 45 deg . head up exit. You transition from heads up exit to head down but immediately start to rotate out to level flight. Knowing I was going to go head down after exit was kind of intimidating, but when I leveled out it felt like I was moving pretty good on the forward speed A balloon is no BASE jump but big fun. I would do it a third time if I get the chance.
  21. pulling below the last Wire. Yep the last wire at our Tower is 150 Feet. That works for me. I have never have or ever tried to stage deployment between wires on a Tower jump. To try to judge where & when to pull between the wires for added safety. is not applicable and is a waist of time. Maximum separation is priority # 1 the most important thing. No matter how short or tall it is. I just work on... 1. Getting as much separation as possible after exit. 2. Body positioning awareness. 3. Enjoying the Free-Fall. 4. Pulling at the height I decide to. 5. Fly away, Or do what it takes to fly away and land. 6. Go get a cold Beer. * In that Order *
  22. I would only change one thing on that tower Jump With the 160 deg off heading, night before last. I could be getting in to a bad Habbit ? I don't think I will make a habit of doing Toggle, back-up, reverse turns from a Night time off heading Tower jump As the Velcro was pealing from the toggle unstowing I had a flash in my Brain of.... What if there was a line twist ??? But... I was past the point of no return. Your reflex's work so fast. I did not visually clear that possible problem before doing that maneuver. plus its hard to see becouse it is Dark at night. I have turned and corrected plenty of bad headings on Night Tower jumps with Risers only.
  23. I think he was also wearing his Pink, Barbie Bike Helmet. In protest to having to wear a helmet as Mandatory Safety Equipment
  24. One of the coolest jump I ever saw was.... of course also Dwain Weston. It was off Tombstone, Moab. in 2000 The last day of the I.P.B.C. 4th annual Tombstone Challenge. There is video of it somewhere. I am sure of the Floater cliff exit with Half twist It was a long time ago but I think it was... Floating exit / facing the cliff Back with a half twist Front on heading opening
  25. I just had a 160 Deg. off heading last night. on a Tower jump, and I am confused. After reading that Post. optimal exit, 110 deg. exit, to a 70 deg., separation, plane of the down wind wire, closer to collision in the event of a 180. or to be precise a 160 facing plane of the down wind wire with a 110 deg. exit opening greater than 70 deg. in the direction of the upwind wire (See Attachment) All you had to say was the last sentence..... The closer you are to the upwind wires, the dicier this situation becomes. The wind is your friend on a Tower jump. Dont fly into the Wires.
