What was experience of you instructor at your first jump I think I know what you are getting at. Sounded like Mick kind of chewed your ass a little on your advise to a first jumper in that, BASE in France post. I think it is pretty obvious that when you want to learn to BASE. you will seek out someone to show you how to do it. Most of the time you take what ever you can get related to where your at. The last few years there has been a huge amount of first FJC offered to paying learners. That is a option. When I went out the first time the only person that I could find to drive to the object and put me off had 60 jumps. I did 4 or 5 jumps with him that night. A few months latterI found a tall skinny Ozzy with more experience. He had 96 jumps. You take what you can get sometimes. It is pretty obvious though that you should seek out and find the most solid jumper you can, to show you what's up and believe it or not there are B.S.R to BASE. that a Learner should be taught. A instructor with only little or moderate experience is surely still pushing the boundaries to find out what is right and wrong, and still working on understanding his own limits. But Hell you might still survive with a instructor with the smaller amount of experience. I Did. ..Ray Losli

Dude that sounds about right.. 100 sq. feet over your body weight. Just think the opposite of Skydive / speed is not your friend in BASE as a rule. Your jumping in tight City or Wooded areas your usually coming steep and aggressive. If your Big Wall tracking or wingsuiting it, with big open landing, that's a different story. Plus on opening if there is something kind of funky or bad happening, the slower it going to fly forward and much slower to drop precious altitude.

Free Pack, Easy I do it all the time. 1- First you find a big student rig big enough to hold your BASE canopy. 2- Cut your canopy off your BASE rig, at the risers. 3- hook your risers to student skydive rig. 4-..( No, D-Bag ) dont need to use it, dont worry. 5- use skydive pilot chute, your BASE pilot chute is to big for skydive B.O.C or leg strap pouch throw-out. ( use bridal for that student rig ) 6- Leave mesh Slider on. ( dont need sail slider ) 7- PRO Pack - (use a couple of rolls on nose ) 8- Use a couple of raps of rubber band to tie slidder up to inboard C-line. 9- 2- raps primary line stow & stow lines in tail pocket. 10- stack fold your Main in tray Tail Pocket first and close.

Ray and Spence Bounce proof, BASE Course I have to admit that putting a person off a fixed object once in a while for there first BASE jump has been fun. It has NOT been my Life Long Dream to start a BASE School, and to put students off a fixed object Human or Monkey. Both I and my Canadian / wana be American, partner in crime don't mind putting a primate off for a BASE jump for the first time with no regard for his life, or limb. That's what little furry monkeys of lesser importance are for. ***They Are Here to Amuse People Who Don't Care About Them.!!!*** Until we just gave up and started Bounce Proof FJC we did have a caring attitude and gave the utmost in the safety effort of the first time jumper. I and the staff here used to have a conscience. Having had some BASE experience we mistakenly where given the knowledge that sometimes it is just F#%+ing hard to stay alive even if you think you know what you are doing. We just did not feel like arguing over, & over, & over, & over, & over, back and forth with a person or people who just don't get it. Not everyone can be lucky enough to get away with it. Personally I don't have the gift to read a first time jumpers mind to judge there abilities and know if they can BASE jump without any Skydives first. Ray and Spence Bounce Proof, BASE Course Dear...Skypuppy and nicknitro71 While climbing Our local 870 ft. Antenna tonight with my good friend D.J. I had plenty of time to think about My Dead Primate. No one at Bounce proof FJC, ever really cared that BASE 570 didn't take responsibility for giving his Monkey any Skydives, to teach Canopy control. We even encouraged it, because frankly it sounded kind of cool and we were just tired of caring and didn't give a crap anymore. We at Bounce Proof FJC. have really been concerned with the Large controversy over Skydive vs. no Skydive in BASE canopy control, and our new found abandonment for no canopy control for new BASE students. While our new Primate student jumper's fatal accident was not due to poor canopy control. He defiantly did have a few more landing problems than the other students. He suffered from several ankle injuries, scrapes and bruises,broken tail bone and more from bad landings. He also tore up a lot of gear (i.e., Torn Pilot Chutes, Ripped Canopies, Etc. ) To tell you the truth we were getting kind of sick of that Monkeys puffed up pompous attitude. He was constantly throwing in our faces, all the cool and dangerous jumps he was doing. Over exaggerating the danger and risk of every jump to look cool, and to tell you the truth he was wearing out his welcome around here anyway. I and the Bounce Proof staff had a long talk today and we just can not agree on how many Skydives a new BASE student should have. Some students did OK while others did poorly. We have decided that there is nothing we can do about it, so screw it. Even though this Primate was a pain in the Ass. I'm very interested in BASE jumping. I've been reading BASE websites since I did a tandem skydive this last month. I was going to just go buy an used parachute and a backpack thingy off a website and go jump one of the many builings in my town, but I think that it might be better to go through a class before jumping off one of the 10 story buildings in my area. By taking your class do I get free parachutes or can I just buy one of the rigs and packing primates at the end of my class? I've read things about contacting locals before you jump something in a new area. Does your class provide a directory of all the locals and their phone numbers in all the areas I might someday travel? I am disappointed to hear there will be no free shirt, will the class fee be reduced now that this is no longer being offered? Also can I hire someone to take pictures of me on my first BASE jump like I did my first Skydive? Your friend in freefall... I would like to apply for your course. I have previously been rejected for the "Harden up, Tiger" BASE course, also taught in the pacific northwest. My application for that course was rejected as it was felt that it would be impossible for me to ever harden up sufficiently. Please take this into consideration in my application for the Bounce Proof BASE course. I have three or four skydives, but none since July of last year. I'm also a little vague on that packing stuff, and tend to just use my canopies without packing them. Please consider me for your course. Having seen a couple of student go through his course though. I can see Dwain's point. I only had a few hundred BASE jumps at the time and was barely staying alive myself with Dwain's Influence. We did see Eye to Eye on certain ideas, and that was not easy, being that I had to stoop somewhat, in height to talk to him face to face. ...But Fear Not !!! This morning I got up at 5:00, thru two Rigs, and my hard gear in the truck. Flew by coffee people and picked up a Canadian immigrant BASE jumper who is trying to scam his way into U.S. Citizenship. Then we hauled ass up north to one of our local, Mountains to bang two jumps out. While stuffing my gear in my stash bag, to do the climb out of the canyon on the second jump It become so clear to me that I was -Wrong ! >The first jump was a fast tail wind. I pitched early to give me a good extra second or two to do a tight flat turn 180 deg. approach. As I was setting up in very deep brakes, there was a strong left side rotor that pushed me hard, but it was no big deal really and I flared it, Planed out the canopy and ran like hell to a stop. All was good except The Canadian/American who was laughing at me. >When we shuffled out to do the second jump the wind had done a complete 180 and we had a steady head wind. The Canadian got the bright idea for a two way. I said what the hell and 1-2-3 lets go. Nice head wind and a on heading opening for both of us. I slammed it into deep brakes to set up on the tight approach, and about 75 feet above the deck, I got a down-push of Air from somwhere in the tight canyon. I instinctively let up on the toggles to let it fly, got the little bit of speed and lift I needed to Plane out and land safely. Nice jumps fun times. It became so clear to me then after that Jump. The Minority obviously is right and the Majority is Wrong The 11 years of Skydiving I did was a total waste of time and energy. The 1000 Skydives I did before my first BASE jump "97... what a joke. >The person who has never made a Skydive exiting that object with no flight time in training. Under Canopy. Has the same chance of a safe landing safely and a easy hike out, to do Another jump, Another day, as the BASE Jumper who has had a several Skydives. Canopy experience means nothing in the big picture. The People who trained me to BASE jump. Why would they Lie to me ? In my opinion they are Dumb Ass's, they were obviously wrong and no nothing of what it take to a safe BASE Jump. I am sorry and I was wrong. Be Safe

As for Tom's statements about doing 200 jumps off a bridge instead of skydives, I disagree on that too. 200 jumps off the bridge at what, 10 seconds per canopy ride? versus jumps from a plane which give you, from 3000' s/l, say 2.5-3 minutes canopy time... Which are you going to learn more about canopy control on? That is a heads-up Statement. If you own a Skydive Rig. Jump it or Free-Pack your BASE rig in a old, Big student container I routinely go on Hop& Pops to ring-out my BASE canopy. Stalls, Rear Riser turns, Stops and spin around moves. Flat turns, in half brakes, and on and on. I can do so many Canopy training drills my arms get tired. Then I can practice Accuracy on landings ( Here Comes The Important Part ) > You can cram more Canopy skills practice into one Hop&Pop than ten BASE jumps. >That practice translates over to, Learned Brain and Muscle. Reaction. ( Spontaneous Action ) Not Thinking about doing it. It just happens. It will Happen with repetitious training. That's what will save your Life. >Skydiving is not Evil.
