  1. The story is not an opinion piece. Do you have examples of that reporter writing stories praising the US government for conducting espionage against private US corps or are you suggesting that editorial oversight at newspapers ought to be such that the slant of every story by every reporter must be the same?
  2. So criminals should not be allowed to vote but the criminally insane should?
  3. That was a good speech. I can't help but notice the difference in the power that emanates from that man when he is stumping compared to his every day sound bites when he is dealing with the hurley burley of Washington politics. Romney is the only Republican with a snowball's chance in hell of out campaigning him.
  4. Thanks for promulgating the most destructive and bloody idea the world has ever come up with.
  5. I don't have a problem with the insane persons part of that although I do think it should stipulate those under the care of the state. The exclusion of idiots is a little more problematic. What is an idiot. I am sure there are those who firmly believe that anyone who would speak publicly in favour of (pick 'em) is clearly an idiot and should not be allowed near the polling both, but apart from that where is the line. Is 'ward of the state due to mental incapacity' a reasonable boundary? How about anyone who didn't finish grade 12? Anyone who is too stupid to factor a quadratic equation?
  6. You load a Hurricane? Not short compared to a Katana? Compared to a Sabre 2? I loaded my Stiletto at 1.7-1.9 (depending on my weight) and started my 270s at around 480 ft. I now start my 270s under my Samurai (1.9-2.0) at just over 800 ft. Would you say you start closer to 480 or 800?
  7. We're working on that. House of Commons vote to kill the long gun registry
  8. Let me give you an example. My seventeen year old niece doesn't let her mother on her facebook. She and i are talking about her university options. I am trying to convince her to come to Canada (from UK) but her parents don't want her that far away. Her mother (my sister) is of course on my facebook so she can see that I am responding to her status update. By clicking on it she can see the whole conversation. Lucky's boss doesn't need to be friends with anyone. She just needs to find a friend of Lucky's with loose privacy settings and they can look through that window and see her nakid smoking a bong with a Chinese industrial espionage team.
  9. You can wash all three components of your gear, although the AAD is best left out of the washing machine. Remove the main and reserve from the container. This is the component that will have the most smoke ingrained in the fabric and washing it should yield the greatest effect. I have heard of people washing their rig in a machine but I have never done it. If I were to do so I would use a front loader rather than one with an agitator. Generally I hand wash it. Take a Rubbermaid or similar type tub, fill it about half way with tepid water, add a bit of a non-scented clothes washing detergent. I use Woolite©. Put the rig in and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Using a nylon brush vigorously each part of the rig. You may want to change the water and do it again. Get the shower set up to insure tepid water and put the rig under the flow for about 15 minutes, turning the rig once or twice to rinse. Hang to dry. Some people wash canopies in the machine by putting them in a cloth laundry bag and tossing the bag in the machine on cold, no soap. I have never done this but I have hand washed a tandem canopy once. That is a lot of work. You might want to discuss that with your rigger. If you have never assembled a rig before you should get your rigger in on that as well.
  10. If I recall correctly a Hurricane is very similar to a Stiletto; very responsive to toggle inputs with a very short recovery arc. If you really want to focus on canopy piloting I would suggest you sell your canopy right now and pick up a Sabe2 or Safire2. Keep the same wing loading. This will give you a slightly slower canopy that swoops better (ie longer recovery arc). This will give you a much better platform to learn on. I put about 2000 jumps on a Stiletto. When I went to a longer recovery arc canopy, a Samurai, I really had to step back and 'unlearn' a lot. My sight pictures would amount to sudden death under my new gear and so I completely lost that tool. Learning to fly a less aggressive canopy in a more aggressive fashion is both safer and more useful in the long run.
  11. Well, I would but then I would probably end up with green shit and 'riderpride' all over my wall. Seriously. Make friends with Edmonton Skydive. Then come visit us in the spring (first week of April) and make a jump. Then you actually have friends you have met.
  12. Drifting back to the OP's story, This highlights the problems state departments or equivalent have with dual citizens. This guy happily used his Thai credentials until he ran afoul of Thai law. Then he pulls his other passport out of his pocket. "I am an American! I don't have to obey the laws like everyone else." While I believe the government should offer assistance to it's citizens who get into trouble overseas I don't believe it should extend to squeezing sovereign governments to treat people better than they treat their own citizens. This is especially true when it is their own citizen. If you are a Thai citizen in Thailand your US passport should count for exactly as much as a US citizen's Thai passport counts when they are in the US- Zero.
  13. I gotta admit Tebow looked better last week. He had some real yardage. If I was on the Denver D I would be pissed about all the press Tebow is getting. They are having a great year. It is important to remember that during the first 50 minutes of the games when Tebow is three and outing, it is the defense that is manning up. As far as going on about his Heisman, don't ever forget that he follows in the footsteps of the great Danny Wuerffel.
  14. I think this bullshit has a lot to do with it.

    Pizza!

DINGDINGDINGDING! Greek food is great. Italian food at a Greek restaurant, not so much. Don't care for Chinese sushi much either.
  16. They look pretty good. If the Coyotes move anywhere except the Central is is seamless (The Pacific Northwest would be nice). The best thing is moving the Wild away from the Pacific. Yes they are a tough out, but mainly because they are shit to watch most years. WTF is with putting Tampa and Florida in with Toronto, Montreal et. al? Does Bettman know something? The Quebec City Lightning? The North Toronto Panthers?
  17. From my experience women who get involved with whuffos tend to drop out of, or drastically reduce their activity in, the sport at a rate similar to dudes who do the same. It is just more noticeable when it is a woman because there are less of them. In both cases it seems that the ones whose so's are OK with it are those who have their own hobbies outside their relationship. Overheard from a Whuffo husband over the phone: "Ya, Nancy's going to KPOW for the weekend and the fish are biting!" The guy was a suburban hero whose wife let him go fishing every weekend all summer long.
  18. As intended. I don't think he is laughing with you.
  19. I'm gonna guess that the military is going to impose a secular constitution similar to Turkey's. Furthermore I'm going to guess that it will be violently rejected. However since the military's access to the US aid tit depends on it, they won't back up. Not going to be pretty.
  20. My rigger was trained and certified by an industry organization the same as all our instructors. The government has no part. Strangely enough Canadian reserves keep opening. Furthermore our main packers are trained and tested by people like me (a non-rigger). The government is completely unnecessary within the skydiving industry other than the aviation side.
