  3. If you've ever wondered what skydiving on Mars is like, go to the Moab Boogie. It's mighty damn close! Lotta outs too. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  4. Although "The Kid" ain't exactly freakin' out, he doesn't look very relaxed either. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4fc_1205374621 I'm sure he enjoys the canopy ride MUCH more than the freefall. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  5. Set up your garden hose outside, with the sprayer latched open, and aimed at your windows or door. Run one or more hoses together to the opposite side of your home. When the shit starts, slip outside and turn the hose on. Negative reenforcement. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  6. That's damn good advice. If you give a few tandem jumps to these helo pilots, you have changed their status, from one of 'Them', to one of 'Us'. Then they will look out for you just like family. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  7. Got snowboard? Try Colorado. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  8. One of my favorite cats, now long gone, would attempt to wake me by shoving his wet, purring nose as far into my ear canal as possible. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  9. That's a damn fine gig if you can get it. I've known a lot of those guys in the last decade and a half, and if your time in sport and jump numbers are correct, you should expect to make twice that many jumps every year. 10. I like it when the "same" helicopter reporter narrates the chases in different cities. John Bunnell is the most irritating host, and needs to return to the pig farm. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  11. Thanks for the trip back through ZHills history, Tuna. Yes, there is no mistaking Hank, no matter how young. I met Lou Howell in Mobile, AL. a couple of years after those pics were taken. Anyone in touch with him? I heard he lives in the FL Keys someplace. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  12. The steady crosswind wasn't nearly as bad as the gusts...otherwise, the aircraft wouldn't have held runway alignment as well as it did on the climbout. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  13. Poor crosswind control by the PIC. As he transitioned from crab to slip, he felt he had it made, then 'relaxed' and allowed the upwind wing to rise. Classic crosswind landing error, that as a former CFI I used to see all the time, but I'm sorta surprised to see that kind of flying from an ATP level pilot. 14. Seaplane Otter, and a seaplane Twin Otter. Beav in the background. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  15. JR, Been there, done that, with a very similar Blazer. For some reason during the winter, this particular model produces a lot of condensation in the tank, anytime the fuel tank is not kept full. This factor, combined with the bad fuel you already got, has you running very rough. All you gotta do is get rid of the water in your tank. Go to Pep Boys or a Chevron Fuel Station and get twice as much Techron as is called for on the bottle. Fill your tank at trusted fuel station, and drive at least 25 miles. End of problem. Thank me later. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"

    Knight Rider

Here's a video of Kitt coming out of the trailer. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=347_1203289729 BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  18. In more than 30 years in sport, I've held every job on the DZ there is, from DZO, chief pilot, packer, toilet cleaner...everything except fatality (Didn't miss that one much x 2) You'll do what you want to in the end, but if you do wind up immersing yourself totally into skydiving it's very likely to take a heavy toll. You'll know everyone on the DZ if you're working there, and will take it very hard when you lose a friend (It will happen). Also, DZ politics can be hard to deal with. And if all you do is skydive, what are you going to do for fun? Skydive? You'll fare much better if you go to school, get a good paying regular job, and skydive for fun. Then when you leave early on Sunday afternoon to head home, not hurting, not pissed off, you can be thankful you don't have to live there. I'd rather work in a brothel. 19. The term 'Iron Mike' for an AP must be exclusive to the heavy aircraft industry. Most of my aviation experience is in aircraft

    Cheaters

Oh, I thought this was about the TV show "Cheaters". The worst piece of shit I ever saw, and a total waste of electrons to produce. Cheating? I'm human, and have participated. I have also been on the other side. BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  21. I wouldn't expect a non pilot to know this Billy, and it is often a media error calling it that, but "tarmac" is a paving material, not a location on an airport. BASE359 TARMAC - (1) A bituminous material used in paving; a trade name for Tar MacAdam. (2) An airport surface paved with this substance, especially a runway or an APRON at a hangar. from http://www.quickplaneloan.com/?case=airplane_glossary So would it have been more appropriate worded like this? He's been sitting on the airport surface paved with bituminous material at the Tullahoma, TN airport for several years with a blown engine. In almost 6000 hours of PIC over nearly every US state, landing on 500 foot dirt strips, large places like SFO, as well as everything in between, and I've never once had a trained controller refer to any point on an airport as the 'tarmac'. I have however, been directed to a certain points on the 'ramp' or to 'parking' many times. I understand that the term has leached it's way into modern terminology mainly through it's incorrect use during a highjacking in the early 1970's. Not unlike listed passenger Dan Cooper being identified as D.B. Cooper by a media error, has now turrned it into one of the 'facts'. However, just as the term "diva" has become watered down to include common street folk, the use of 'tarmac' to include anything but a paving product is technically incorrect. 22. I wouldn't expect a non pilot to know this Billy, and it is often a media error calling it that, but "tarmac" is a paving material, not a location on an airport. BASE359 Okay, fine, he's parked on the fucking airport. Geez whiz... pic from google earth http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=94520; Yup, just as I expected. It's parked on concrete. 24. The pilot in me wonders where the B727 of Cooper fame is today? I looked for a serial number on the net, but came up empty. Any with info on this? BASE359 "Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
  25. Being a modified version of this young fellow myself back in the 60's and 70's, I can say all my substance use was to mentally escape the poor home life I was living. This young man could use some positive support from his peers, as well as professional help to learn to cope with his life as it exists now. I wish him the best.
