  1. As I was a music-ed major - you name it, I can play it - and make it sound decent But my proficiency was in clarinet/sax and piano. My favorites other than that were viola, cello and oboe. Sold my clarinet to go through AFF, not too sorry about it though because I couldn't play anymore anyway (jaw joint problems) - but there are alot of days when I miss piano. Hubby says we can buy one next year... I'm practically holding my breath
  2. I love Weeds The last episode was great when her new husband came home and told her he got her new business Jen Arianna Frances
  3. Yes, this is hard to watch, but eye-opening. The Britax line of seats (particualarly the Regent) is a 5 point harness up to 80 lbs. As far as seats attached using the LATCH system, and had to choose between a 3 pont or 5 point, the 5 point is better. I have spoken to the woman that made this video as her second son was born just 4 days after my daughter. Celebrating his birth had been bitter sweet for them. Jen Arianna Frances
  4. The Scenera rates well as far as convertible car seats go. I hope you get answers from the investigations soon. If my understanding of LATCH is correct, it is part of the framework of the car itself, so if the seat was attached to the lower (and in the case of front facing) and upper anchors of the LATCH system correctly it may have been enough to 'anchor' the cars rear seat in place to prevent something like this. But one can never know for sure, and in the grand scheme of it all, it doesn't really seem to matter now does it? I'm sorry again for what has happened to you and your family, thank you for sharing your experience. Jen Arianna Frances
  5. I actually thought of you and your family when I saw that video at first. I didn't know which seat your son was in - I'm very sad to hear the failure point was not the carseat, but the car itself. Was the seat attached using LATCH? What was the year, model of the car? What car seat was he in (brand)? Was it rear or front facing, and if it was rear facing, what was his weight? My husband has a two door honda civic and it is very difficult to get my daughter in an out of his car in her current seat and it will be close to impossible when she has to move to a bigger, rear facing seat. We will be looking into getting another car for him late next year but I want to be sure it will work best for a LATCH car seat. Some cars LATCH systems only support up to 45 lbs. even though the seat will support up to 55 - this will create a failure point similar to what you experienced with your son. I hope I'm not being too forward with these questions, but I would like to learn from your experience. I'm very sorry for your loss and hope that your family is finding the peace it needs. Edit to add: I'm posting this here rather than by PM so that others may learn also. Jen Arianna Frances
  6. I learned something new today. Most children are moved to 'booster' car seats when they reach 40 lbs. as most harness car seats only hold to that limit. This is the reason I will be purchasing a car seat from the Britax line: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ&NR Jen Arianna Frances
  7. Same here - this is a big problem with VS 2005... So much for my XML updates today... we have to look at this in greater detail first... Jen Arianna Frances
  8. wow, you had trick or treaters in your area? In the last 8 years I've never had more than 5 kids show up... and I've lived in 4 different homes since then Arianna Frances
  9. I'd did the latter and can't complain. Doing AFF training in the tunnel prior to AFF is never a bad thing. Doing so made it so I got through AFF in 3 jumps. Good Luck, Jen Arianna Frances
  10. I'm a code monkey... who this week is sitting in a class about code where the instructor is teaching the other monkeys how to peel bananas... I think I'd enjoy it much better if I had some baileys to add to my coffee Jen Arianna Frances
  11. Makes me happy to read this.

  13. My best friend is a teacher at this school. Last year a child got a concussion during 'tag football' and the parents sued to get his medical costs covered. During the last day of school last year two 4th graders 'disappeared' during recess because the teachers were too busy trying to keep track of the girls playing dodge ball and the boys playing football and some other kids playing tag. Although I don't agree with it, what are the schools supposed to do when the student teacher ration is something like 26:1 now? Its not an easy decision to make, the school spent almost the entire summer debating it - in the end, more supervised activities had to be chosen. Jen Arianna Frances
  14. Its not just his music thats incredible - his social work is too. He worked so hard with amnesty international in the mid 80s that he nearly went bankrupt - his friend in Genesis were the only ones that saved him, financially. I went to his show in Boston a few years ago, for his UP tour. What a great show - he had the blind boys of alabama as an opening act and they even joined him on stage for Biko - it was incredible. I became a fan of his in 1991 when I hear 'Games without Frontiers' on my way to the airport to go to CA. As soon as the flight landed I had to find a store that had the single (on cassette of course). I then went out and bought all of his stuff and then ventured into the older Genesis stuff (the newer stuff was crap, except for the last album, Calling all Stations, cause Phil Collins wasn't in it ). I always felt a type of connection to him as his daughter (who joined him on stage during this last tour) and I share the same birth year and similar birth stories (we were both preemies who weren't supposed to make it). My favorite Peter Gabriel songs include: Solsbury Hill Big Time Biko Digging in The Dirt Don't Give Up Games Without Frontiers Growing Up I Don't Remember In Your Eyes Mercy Street Red Rain (I think this is my favorite) Shaking The Tree Shock The Monkey Sledgehammer Steam The Barry Williams Show San Jacinto Here comes the flood Shock the Monkey I have the touch Ahh, so many more - I think I"ll bring all those Cds to work tomorrow Jen Arianna Frances

  25. OMG, I love my Dell - it rocks. We've got a Toshiba which is such a piece of crap - danm charging circuit overheats all the time - so you can't actually use it while its charging, toshiba knows about the problem and won't recall - almost all their laptop models have this problem. A compaq that won't reboot after going into Hibernate Mode... even after a bios update... The dell rocks. Never had a single thing wrong with it. I often wonder why people don't like Dell Laptops - we've had a great experience with them, will definitely buy again - unlike the others. Jen Arianna Frances
