  1. I was training with the Canadian Avalanche Association in canada two years ago. A week after I was there, 12 skiers died in an avalanche. They were experianced guides. The white death, to me, is far more scary than something i can see (read: the ground!).
  2. So this is the best deal around eh? I mean, it IS pretty damn good! Just making sure there isnt anything cheaper out there (yet that still has turbines running back to back). How is the atmosphere at the ranch? Plenty of freeflyers and RW people to jump with there?
  3. Alas, I cannot make it to that awesome venue due to my awful master that is Kent State University and the horrible, everlasting, torturous summer classes that define the word aweful.
  4. Im planning on going on a jump-a-thon within the next few months (probably august 20th-28th). Im planning on blowing about 2k worth of jumps. Obviously I want to get he best bang for my buck. The Ranch skydive in NY supposedly has 16 dollar jumps if you pay 50 dollar club fee. considering I want to spend the 2k in about 8 days, I would need to hire a packer , presumably at around 6 dollars a jump, making the jumps 22 bucks, which is only 1 dollar more than the regular jumps at my home dropzone. Im hoping you people can point me in the right direction to a place where I can find cheap jump tickets (like the 16 dollar new york ones) at a place that has trubines and back to back loads throughout the week. ( could be an event) I just want to make sure im getting the best deal, so far NY is the best I can find. thanks in advance
  5. Im scared of waking up someday and realizing that I had lost sight of what is important in life. Im scared of failing myself. Im scared of being a hypocrite... I catch myself sometimes and it pisses me off so bad. Most of all Im scared that my life philosophy of hedonism and believing religion is just a bunch of BS is wrong. Because if im wrong, im pretty much f-ed when I die.
  6. I got my private a few weeks ago and started working on instrument 1 week later.
  7. Is the footage on this dvd any different from the promos that one can download on their webpage for free? I only ask because it says "promo" under the dvd.
  8. I tighten my chest strap and cinch down my leg straps before exiting. I also enjoy eating apple butter and carrots. Both statements are about equally important.
  9. I have the same "problem". I always look so serious. I devoted an entire dive to just relaxing, breathing, and smiling on a solo sit. It worked for that dive, but the next one, i was back to my old self. I think, at least for me, its because im not really relaxing. Someone pointed out that I might even be holding my breath, which i think is right! I think its just because I have to concentrate so hard to fly. One day I will relax, and i expect to have much more fun when I do.
  10. Makes me feel better, because i have thousands of hours teaching skiing and am certified level III PSIA-Intermountain. So, if coaching skills are what the focus is on, I definately feel better about not waiting till im 500+ jump numbers to start. I intend to have 200 before the coaches course this fall. I figure that, with my currency, ...as long as i focus on training for it on all my next jumps...., that i ought to be prepared enough not to make an ass out of myself.
  11. At the dz that I used to jump at,back when i was a student, they would send up just about anyone before me. I would go there at 9am and load after load of the wuffo----- just want to make one tandem jump--- people went up over and over gain. Happened every time I was there. Also happened to anohter aff student who was training with me at the time. I think I made the mistake of not checking out the dz reviews before I went and also I paid for the entire training up front...therefore they had no immediate incentive to send me up when they had new customers to charge. Of course they lost out in the long run since Ive spent about 1.2k in jump ticket money at my new dropzone and am about to put another 1k on it (and ive only been at the new dropzone for a few months). Ive also steered a handfull of people away from there. Id even go two or three days in a row of being out there around 8hrs and not get a single jump even though they sent load after load of tandems and funjumpers up.
  12. Damn this ride called life feels so nice right now. Im thankfullfor/happyabout A-I get to skydive! wow this is a great sport. Its challegning, dynamic, emotional, and fun as hell. B-All things considered, im pretty damn lucky. I have a great house to live in (alibet im sucking off the parental tit...but hey...im going to college so BACK OFF!), cool people to skydive with, one really good friend, a few kinda good friends, and lots of bodies to make big ways when im ready, a promising future, etc etc. C-Im soooo much better off that the majority of people int he world, i mean...i only have to worry about doing well on tests, etc... not where my next meal is going to come from or if some new interim govt is going to be fair, etc... D-Im excited at my ambitions in the world of skydiving. I cant wait to contribute. E- It was an AWESOME day today..good weather afterall. F- I had the best run of my life last night. I finally experianced what runners call "riding the rails"...i just cruised..it wasnt thinking how im going to make those next steps, i was off in my own world with my mp3 player playing techno music and the sky dancing with lighting all around. I ran way farther than I intend too (was only supposed to be a small run for me of 6-8miles, ended up running 13) I then got toally soaked on the way home! G-I finally found my keys! jesus i had been missing these things for weeks. They were in N5961G...that damn 152 has too many crevices lol. H-I got fired from my job at sears a few weeks ago (first time i was EVER fired in my life) because i could work the hours they needed...but I just go my old job back from last summer. its an awesome job...I basicly get paid 7$ an hour to just get a tan...literally no work lol...its grrrreat! I- I is for Independance. Although I still live at home, I am finally in a posistion to be able to re-invest the 7K that I took out of stocks to pay for this wonderful sport. at the current rate I will be back up to my net worth within a year, and that feels great. J- I just patched a relationship with an old gf. I wont bore you with details. were friends now. K- Shortly, I will recieve a new RW jumpsuit so that I can start training RW along with my FFing. I cant wait to do both. L. My truck needed fixed but I found out when i picked it up it was only 230 instead of the estimated 1,200. ..although its looking like the clutch will indeed need to be replaced...at least it wasnt in a big lump sum bill! mnopqrstuvwxyz are all for YAY. (okay so i am sick of typing, but im sure i have things for all those letters, you will just need to trust me!)
  13. Mk, so im browsing the olympic website (www.olympic.org) and am wondering why skydiving isnt in the olympic games. I mean, sheesh, badmiton is in the games. BADMITON! not to mention table tennis. So...why isnt skydiving in the olympic games? I think it should be. Im inclined to write a letter, but, alas, my synical view of the way things work lets me know it wont do any good.
  14. Links works for me. Good pics! looks like it was good fun.
  15. Honk if the kids fall out. Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed. So many stupid people, So few comets. Ass, gas, or grass, nobody rides for free. Suck. It.

  17. heh, you need more options on there, so i didnt vote. I ordered a mirage when I had around 13 jumps. I also paid for my A license (aff progression) in full, on my first trip to the dz, before I had made a single jump. I just knew.
  18. Thats awesome. Congrats! Way back when, when i passed my checkride, I remember feeling alittle overwhelmed with all the possibilites and being "responsible" while PIC. If he ever needs a mentor, dont hesitate. lol
  19. hours and hours of entertainment
