The second DZ I mentioned used (basically) matching student gear, had several students on the same load and the radio instructor had to (upon landing) look up and figure out which student was which... Terror, panic, may happen only to unprepared person, to those not ready to die. Silly statement. I doubt you are prepared for something unforeseen at a low altitude when you realize you are out of options. Then comes the terror and panic. Another foolish statement. I've heard this repeated many times by newbies and still can not see any logic in it. You are only dead when you are dead not while you are in freefall still breathing. I'd rather die in my sleep than to have several moment of fear before I impact the ground.

I can only imagine that the last moments before someone goes in must be the most terrifying moments of their soon to be over life. I don't think sheer terror and panic would qualify as dieing doing something I love. I want to die in my sleep.

No. This is absolutely untrue. Firstly, the roundness and circumference (to a surprisingly high degree of accuracy) of the earth was first figured out over 2,000 years ago.
