  1. More stuff: http://www.bobscherer.com/Pages/Starship.htm
  2. I don't know if you're busting on my response from an older thread or not, but the above statement is pretty much along the lines of what I wrote, and I was pretty much wrong. Though I use a shell account for mail (PINE), I was still vulerable to webpage-based attacks, i.e. that SOBIG dealie (IIRC) that was going around last year. It took a bunch of freakin SKYDIVERS to show me the error of my ways. Outside of calling me socially irresponsible (that stung) their critisism of my madness, er, methods, was dead-on, and I now run a firewall and Avast! anti-virus software.
  3. Couldn't disagree more. 450 watts is a start; there is much more emphasis on bass in modern music (even country) than there ever was in classic rock, add in the sub-harmonic content used by some R+B-or bands such as Tantric or Nickelback and 450 watts punks out pretty quick. There are things that Aphex enhancement can fix, but lack of power aint one of them. Seriously, I'd love it if 450 watts was a bit much. As it is 830 watts through a 210 and a 212 is my small rig, double the cabs and triple the power is my largest. As you noted, it all depends on the gig- if there's a FOH, etc. I'd add it depends on the material too.
  4. I was starting to think the same; WTF is a Colt guitar? Turns out Murphy does indeed have a sig model -Cort-, and it gets good reviews at Harmony Central (FWIW.) Kinda PRS looking... http://www.cort.com/endorse/murphy/
  5. Matt "Guitar" Murphy plays guitar for the Blues Brothers Band. I don't have the movie so if you're saying the credits list Murphy as the bassist I won't argue. However, if you're saying you know Mr. Murphy and he is is the white guy playing bass I will tell you something is wrong, as Murphy is black. Oh, and he plays guitar. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Anyway, like I said, I don't have the movie so it is possible that Matt "Guitar" Murphy is playing bass in some scenes, but the recording session was done by Donald "Duck" Dunn. Maybe Duck couldn't make the shoot... Donald Duck Dunn is one of the all-time top session bassists (Memphis' Stax/Volt), just as Joe Osborne (L.A.) and James Jamerson (Detroits' Motown) were. (Honorable mention to Funk Brother Bob Babbitt too.) At one time if you had gotten those guys in a room together you couldn't have swung a dead cat without hitting a P bass (Fender), and you'd be pissing off a group responsible for most of the great basslines in pop music spanning decades. Pretty good reference.
  6. That's quite a range of rigs; you might be better off defining the sound you're looking for and what kind of band you're looking to play in. You also might want to post this to one of the bass forums, such as http://p219.ezboard.com/bthedudepit There are big differences between the rig types you mentioned, and it's a bitch to lay out for something that you won't be happy with.
  7. Murphy is a old school blues guitarist; the bassist in the Blues Brothers is Donald "Duck" Dunn, of Booker T. and the MG's fame.
  8. Normal people are capable of strange things. 11 years ago me and another Red Cross volunteer were making a delivery to a church/shelter during the Great Floods. A guy hopped off a fork lift, the forks of which were at about chest height (that's a no-no BTW), and walked over to the back of the truck he was unloading when we noticed the forklift start rolling downhill right at him (parking brake off- another no-no.). Our shouting alerted him in time to get out of the way of the forks. which plowed into the back of the truck where he had been. The young guy I was with turned to me and said "I would have laughed my ass off if he had gotten impaled." Freakin kids... I guess if blame is to be assigned in the Iraqi abuses you could point a finger at dumb youngsters. Every army ever uses them. They are as capable of laughing at scenes such as the above as they are of blowing themselves up in a resturant, or abusing prisoners. Certainly the lack of oversight is a major factor (whatever happened to the notion of "cover your ass", anyway?) but that'll all come out in the wash.
  9. Maybe because something might be better than a blank. I've jokingly told people my cutaway handle says "Skyhook" so that I remember what's in there- but I'm only half joking. And I'm thinking of having the reserve handle engraved with "Skyhook Or Not, You Had Better Pull This Too". The way my mind works, knowing that's there I'd think it every time I looked at the rig, and it'd be re-inforcement to make sure to pull both.
  10. Damn, ended up a blivit both times.
  11. If you're looking for the obvious, I'd say combine their logos' in some way. Things like this is why I'm called the master of the obvious, BTW. The tops of these pages have service logos: http://www.usmc.mil/ http://www.af.mil/ http://www.army.mil/ http://www.uscg.mil/uscg.shtm The Navy home page does not, though I imagine you could find it somewhere in there. Someone should tell the Navy that using a Java app for menus is bogus with a slow connection...
  12. Yeah, same here. Been that way for years, though I was a fish as a kid (lotsa swimming). Altitude doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as a couple of feet of water.
  13. Nah. "Define Normal" didn't work either. The last case they called me for was the civil action of the widow of a 65 y.o man with a history of heart problems who did not survive complications that developed after his last proceedure. In the judges chambers I outlined the case as I understood it and asked the plaintiffs atty. "Are you kidding me with this? You do not want ME on this jury." THAT worked- not that I'm adverse to serving. You may think you wanted to skunk the system, but if you were facing charges wouldn't you want people on the jury to be at least as smart as you consider yourself to be?
  14. My Lotus is in production. Are all the new ones getting the new lineset?

    Skyhook 5

Sometimes they lose them. 4 or 5 years ago a small plane making a run from R.I. to Philly suffered a catastrophic failure of the airframe that resulted in 3 fatalities (4 if you count the dog.)
  16. 67% pure. THAT baby's goin' on the resume.
  17. Wow! Neat stuff. I'm gonna go price helium...[laugh ]
  18. Larry Walters has the (unofficial) altitude record for gas-filled clustered balloons. It must be an illness or a meme or something, because I've thought of pulling the same stunt for years. Of course, I'm stupid, I dunno what Larrys' problem was. Let's see, Rig (check) Deluxe chaise lounge (check)...
  19. Great! Could you get the website to use easier to read fonts please?
  20. I'll take Things That Make You Go Plonk for a thousand, Alex.
  21. I'd say define "sport." Even for a hobbyist like me it's a pretty physical endeavor- hell, it's got me working out at two gyms- and there seems to be no shortage of skilled, competitive and athletic types running around the DZ who would look just as at home on any kind of field or court. And there are a number of teams there and competitions are held every year. Hmm... I dunno. I quit trying to blow a ball past guys when it became obvious they were getting twice as big and half as old as me, and the thrill of trying to catch, block or dodge a bullet hit back up the middle was getting beyond my idea of "sport", so I retired from all of that. It's true the Earth is MUCH bigger than me. And it is also true that it is spinning at a couple of thousand miles per hour while traveling 50-some thousand miles per hour through space. Taking a 120 MPH run at it probably isn't a good idea for most people on most days. Okay, maybe I'm cocky, but the book says I am billions of years younger than the Earth and, more importantly, it's a lefty. I OWN lefties. Game, set, match. See? It's a sport.
  22. Well, if this is the way you do it I'll buy the ammo.
  23. The clock d/l is here. I found that site via another (natch, I get sucked into roaming pretty easily); you might be interested in this one too: Mikes Electric Stuff Neat stuff, eh? A real Nixie clock is a little pricey though...
  24. I've had this for a while now, it may be time to change... That's a NASA (doctored) photo of some place I'll never get to, with a Nixie clock and Winamp.

    BWAhahaha

It happens to the best of us: you're in a place and get directed to another place and the next thing you know you're looking at and listening to something you might never have gone looking for in the first place even had you thought it possibly existed. Happened to me last night. Remember Bubble Puppy? Hot Smoke and Sassafrass
