  1. Why not just float on your back and do the same breathing excercise, works for me and is pretty relaxing.
  2. By far my favorite exit was jump 16 from an otter. I watched the group in front of me exit and started my count. I walked up to the door and put my left hand on the bar above the door in a "track" stance (similar to someone ready to start a race at a track meet) leaning forward. After 5 I let go of the bar and pushed off with my feet and just went limp and let the wind push me around. I rotated 180deg so I was now back to earth with the plane infront and above me. I saw jumper from the group behind me grab the bar and stick his head out the door and look at me...I cant describe the feeling I got but it was similar to "This is why I do this" Then I tumbled over and finished my jump. Man I need to jump again.
  3. When I was going through AFF at zhills I used a Wings container with a Navigator 300. It felt small! Im a big guy at ~250lbs 6'2" so it was like a backpack. (Their big boy rig) I did 1 or 2 jumps on a different container before I got in the wings and the first container actually HURT for one reason or another. Maybe the brisk openings on the PD 280 that was in it but I digress... Once I was in the wings it was very comfortable, user friendly as the AAD is right behind the jumpers neck so It can be accessed/seen by an instructor while the student has the rig on, and the reserve pin is easily accessible. Also, a terminal reserve dump while back to earth opend nicely so I hear. I was going for a jump and an AFF student did just that so I had to wait for an hour for the rigger to get a new handle and put the rig back together. The picture below is a "Picture" taken of the TV screen of my Graduation jump so its pretty low quality. But in that I'm wearing the Wings,Nav300. Conclusion: More comfortable, Felt more secure, Easier for student/instructor (AAD acess). Mind you im still an 18 jump wonder that hasn't jumped in 2 years. ..........
  4. How about this analogy. Jump off of a diving board into a swimming pool. Think of the pool as the Relative wind. Now dive into the pool and you'll go pretty deep. (Free flier jumping head first into the RW) Now belly flop, and you'll barely break the surface. (Belly flier presenting whole body to Relative Wind) Make sure the same person does both so weight is negated.
  5. Well I said "They" as in from his experience the formation had less problems when "They" exited lower. I thought I'd bring relavent experience to help expand on the topic.
  6. More altitude = less air Less air = oxygen issue, higher fall rates, etc... Now add the fact that the last jumpers from the planes will have to catch up to an already fast moving target with less control (less air for the jumper to use to fly). I was once told by a reliable source that when they attempted big ways (~100) if they went to 20k it would fumble by 18k, but when they started lower it was better. I dont think being "higher" makes it any easier but actually complicates it even more.
  7. Electrical Engineer = well thats what the paper on my wall says. Anyway all it appears the "MODS" have done is wired another switch in parallel. Think of it as light switches in your house. Some houses have more than one switch to turn on the same light. Both do the same thing by completing the circuit. There are 2 problems I can see: 1. If the switch was very noisy and not debounced it could take more than 1 shot everytime you hit the switch. 2. Some cameras have a "dual switch" when you hit the button to take the picture, If you lightly press the button it will autofocus, and if you depress it completly it will take the picture. So if this is the case make sure you wire the mod to the "second" switch so it will take the picture right away and change the settings in the camera as needed for focus.
  8. Someone glitched and someone else took advantage of the situation.... and if you couldn't tell I'm Yeff.
  9. Ok here are a few I've got. 1. Flip the hinges on the door so it opens out instead of in...(vice versa). 2. Change the door handle from a knob to a lever...(vice versa) 3. Flip the hinges on the door so it opens from the other side. 4. Pour flour between the sheets so when they go to sleep they sleep in flour, and when they wake up they are all powdery white. 5. Change the hinges/knobs on the refridgerator, cabinets...(similar to door above) 6. Move the silverware/glasses/plates/canned foods into different cabinets. 7. Move furniture daily. 8. Flip light switches...down is on, up is off. (just unscrew and flip) 9. Do they drink coffee? If so slowly mix decaf in until they are only drinking decaf...then switch back. 10. Flip locks so you have to put the key in upside down. 11. Turn on their radio so its full blast then turn it off. So when they turn in on it scares the hell out of them. 12. Change the lightbulb wattages 100W-75W-50W-25W-15W so it slowly gets darker...darker in the house and they cant figure out why. Have fun. JeffreyD
  10. Wow, nobody found this yet? http://www.ebaumsworld.com/napoleondynamite.html
  11. I believe I have a breathing problem but I'm not sure how to word it so I will just explain what is going on. I had/have asthma but since I have been working out at least 3 times a week it has almost disappeared. (I haven't had an attack in 8 monhts, and the Dr. said he wanted to change it to "irritable airway") It seems that whenever I am doing anything "intense" my breathing rate will not increase. For example when I workout (racquetball/weights) I breathe the same, about 15-20 breaths per minute-shallow. My actual breathing pattern is as follows. (right now I'm sitting down and have done nothing yet this morning) 2 second inhale, 2 second exhale, 1 second pause, 2 second inhale..... i would say that on Inhale I am using 20% of my lung capacity. and thats about how it is anytime. When I try breathing deeply I will get dizzy, light headed, and uncomfortable. I read that this is normal and should go away but I can not get into a habbit of breathing deeper. Any suggestions or help? Thanks. BTW I'm 6'2" 257#, not in the best shape but can play racquetball for 3 hrs so I'm not too bad.
  12. Signing is awesome. Proof that we all need the ability to communicate with something other than our mouths. The deaf community is awesome! I've been working with someone who is deaf for over a year, and he started teaching me ASL along with my fiance' and I am glad I started to learn. Its so easy too, just a quick motion of your hand and thats it. I'll just give some anecdotes why you should learn ASL. My fiance' and I were bowling. I was at the counter and she was bowling (maybe 50' away), she wanted pepsi but they were out so I just signed "no pepsi" to which she said "D P" and that was it. So I turned and orderd a Dr. Pepper. Now if we didn't know ASL I either would have had to given up my spot in line, walk over, tell her, get what she wanted, go back and stand in line.... or order something and it be wrong. Also a few weeks ago with the "mutant cold" my voice was almost non existant because of coughing for 2 weeks so I just signed everything to my fiance' who translated if needed. Instead of me fighting my body to speak and hurting even more. ****FREE**** Learn ASL http://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/lessons/lessons.htm * I have no affiliation with the above website.
  13. Check out skydivingmovies.com I think there is /was a video showing a complete takeoff/landing sequence. Of course it had a few people jump at altitude but you didn't ask about that. Anyway what I remember from the video was about like this. 1. Set up basket and torches, then lay basket on its side. 2. take balloon out of bag and lay out infront of basket. 3. Attatch basket to balloon. 4. With a big fan start blowing air into the balloon. 5. Once a fair amount of air is inside the balloon start heating the air with the torch. 6. Keep heating the air until the balloon stands up. 7. Get everyone in the balloon and one or two people who are not going up to hold onto the basket.. 8. Heat the air until the basket starts to rise and then the 1 or 2 people get off and the balloon goes up pretty quick. for landing they just keep a slow rate of decent and slide in. (pretty rough) because they always land downwind.
  14. Public auctions are where I see them but some places require that you have a "dealers" license to get the cheap cheap cars, where they dont let the general public into. When I was looking into buying wholesale and selling cars, its like a "club" you have to know someone to get in or you have to pay alot of $$.

  16. Theres no pilot in the movie, and the cameraman is awesome. so you know its a sim. Anyway we bought something like this www.realflight.com and it was a great training aid for learning RC. So yes there is a pilot flying that thing, and you can really do that stuff in real life.

    Audio Conversion.

www.nch.com.au/switch Great for converting stupid WMA to mp3. FREE! also can record any audio being played by your computer for whatever reason you want(actually decent recording too) you just have to add the recording part when it asks you.. Just thought I'd share.
  19. Another way is to open said picture in MSpaint. click "save as" and do JPEG. If it is still too big click "stretch/skew" and do 50/50. then save as jpeg. Presto.
  20. If anyone wants to skydive for say a few minutes on this game...heres the trick. Look up the "cars float away" cheat. Put it in. Get a car and drive up with the door of the car facing the door of the plane/heli and tap a Hellicopter or Learjet. (when I mean tap, I mean get as close as you can and keep tapping X until you see the plane/heli move a little bit.) Quickly press triangle to get out and Triangle to get into the airplane/heli. If you did it right the airplane/heli will lift off the ground just from you getting inside. Hold X and aim up and wait a few minutes. then jump, you will be freefalling for at least a minute. :-) And a neat visual. Start tracking off of an object, hold R3 and angle the camera down.
  21. Alright well its now 1:30am and there is just an umarked car with a few officers standing talking. No police tape, just like any other night now.
  22. What the HELL!!! Ok this might be long but I'm confused and concerned and cant sleep. So its 5pm and I got home from school. Put some food in the nuclear oven (microwave) and turned on a movie. At around 6:30pm I see some flashing lights through my window and look out the front door to see 2 ambulances infront of the apartment complex. I then notice a few EMT coming in and out of the guys apartment about 50' from mine. I just went back to my movie hoping it was nothing but an accident. Well an hour later and my movie done I checked again only to see 3 police cruisers and the still 2 ambulances. Alot of the EMT and Police were just standing at the base of the staircase talking. None of the vehicles had any sirens on, not even lights. So now I'm confused. Next my Fiance' came home 3 hours after this all started. She told me there was a girl sitting on a tailgate of an SUV crying. We watched some TV and I looked outside again, it was then about 11pm (5hrs now) and I saw a "forensic" van pull up and some people start getting stuff out of the van. We start seeing the flash from a camera and they are taking pictures of the staircase and then the entire inside of the apartment (we can see the flashes through the windows of the other apartment). So 12:00am comes around and I start doing some homework and my Fiance' goes to sleep. I got curious again at around 1am and looked out again to see them hoist the gernie(sp?) with the bodybag on top. Now you know as much as I do. I dont think it was a murder because they would have talked to us to get a statement or something. Maybe suicide? Its just really bothering me becaue this guy (who I think it was) was just a nice guy (maybe 55) who would let his dog out and never talked much. I have no Idea and now its 1:25am and I cant sleep because I dont know what happend. If anyone has "connections" It was at Colonial Grand at Riverhills Temple Terrace, Florida 33637. Any Clue? Also it was the apartment with the staricase you can see in the picture.
  23. May 2004. and I live about 20 minutes from zhills. Whats worse, not being able to jump because its cold. Or not being able to jump and being tortured by perfect weather?
  24. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/badbasejump.html its the video from the link below. But I dont think he gave permission for them to use the video. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1379691;search_string=dam%20impact;#1379691
