  1. Um.. It feels like FREEDOM! well its more like just looking at the world differently, You actually feel about the same. But just remember a good arch will solve almost everything!
  2. Anyone up for 17 minutes of real free fall, (not a tunnel) http://www.learntofly.org/communications/eaanews/040513_spaceshipone.html
  3. How far back are your arms? I'd say instead of having your arms at your side, maybe push them away from your body so your arms are more like an upside down V than parallel , make sense? I know I've seen a ton of tracking on the base videos at www.skydivingmovies.com Of course, I only have 17 jumps so what do I know.
  4. So I'm a high puller since I pull at 4k ? Nobody has had a problem with it yet. Edit: Sorry, I waveoff at 4k.

    Whatzit?

if you flipped it over and stuffed it full of straw or hay it could be a torch?
  6. Well think about this for a second. You have more time from 3,500 feet jumping from a plane than you do if you were in Freefall at 3,500 feet.
  7. Why would a "coach" (after an A license) or Vidiot get sued?
  8. Hmm... This has got me curious. I'm now 257lbs without gear and when I started jumping I was at 249 (damn holidays), SO now I'm too big to safely jump "legal" gear rated at 254lbs (wing loading issues aside)? (still renting gear) Thanks.
  9. Bull, You need to find another DZ. I'm 255 nekid, and went right out to my DZ and started jumping. My first few landings were rougher than normal because I was flying an old 280 F111 canopy so I just kinda mushed in. but now My DZ has gotten a 300sqft Nav and it flys like a dream. The only problem is finding instructors that will jump with you. One of the Local instructors (Paul) had to wear 28lbs of lead to keep up with me.
  10. If you can stay stable then the controller can crank up the wind and get you off the net. If you cant stay stable they will keep you on the net until you can control yourself. The first time I went to Orlando I had 3 jumps, one tandem and 2 AFF. I was all over the place in the tunnel (I almost flew out of one of the doors, Grabbed onto the net, It was aweful -no video though ) Then the next time I went out there I had 5or 6 jumps and I was able to stay in the middle of the tunnel but still moved around a little bit and just like the first time they kept the wind low and I had my arms straight, legs straight, no arch and i was getting maybe 1-2 feet off the net. The next time I went was after 10 jumps and I told the instructor that I have x jumps and can control myself. and once I got in the tunnel and stayed stable in the center they cranked it up and I "hugged the Beach ball" and floated up a few feet past the windows, arched like hell and came back down. BTW I'm 6'2" 255lbs.
  11. I dont think it was dangerous. My attempt at a stand lasted all of about 1 second before I just flipped over, My attempt at HD lasted for all of 1 second before I just flipped over again. All my "aerobatics" were done above 6k, after that I just watched my alti and stayed stable. I hit fog at maybe 5k and popped out of the bottom at maybe 4k, and I pulled above 3,500ft. (I wasn't below the minimum right?) The only difference in the rig I was jumping was 20sqft Bigger, Same canopy style, and identical rig to what I have jumped before. And going through AFF you are told to do a front flip and a back flip. so what is the difference if I am on my own and do a front flip, or a back flip in the same rig?
  12. Well It was almost a month since I've jumped and decided that I had to get out and jump. So I headed out to Z-hills early sunday morning. Got there and found out that another student was jumping the Nav280 I usually jump, so I got bummed out that I woulden't get to jump (I had to work at 12 and it was around 10am) But an instructor told me that they had a brand new nav300 I could fly (I weigh 250lbs so I figured what the hell) Quickly get on a load and get up there. Also I found out now that they have changed the exit order to (Belly,FF,everyone else) so I was a little confused but got it sorted out. This was my first time jumping in the middle of the group (I am still on student status and usually get stuck in the back) so again I was a little nervous but felt confident. I did a front flip out of the plane and just screwed around tucking, Standing, Sitting whatever of course I coulden't hold the stand or HD but flipped out of it.. at around 5.5k I hit some thick industrial haze until maybe 4k. w/o pull and sat through a nice soft opening on this huge red 300. So I start flying to a holding pattern I think would be nice and I see the group that was before me flying below me to the DZ. I have never landed in a "group" before so I sat in brakes at around 2k. and found a thermal. I just kept flying in the thermal for maybe 3-4 minutes while the rest of the load landed, and I was still by myself at around 2k floating in this thermal. Also while looking around I saw a few hawks, eagles, whatever flying a couple hundred feet away from me, it was amazing. I decided I needed to land so I let up brakes and did a nice standup landing. Whohoo! jump # 16.

    Taxes 101

    Yes the ignorant litter society.
  14. I was taught. "Treat it like its 5000degrees" Palm skyward, and throw it away from your body (sideways). But like your friend says usually it will get pulled out of your hand by the RelativeWind. if not, by throwing it as far away from you as possible you are getting it into much cleaner wind, and creating less of a chance to get the bridle tangled up on your body/gear. I started on it and I like.
  15. This happend to me on aff2. Normal skydive and at 5k I waved off and pulled, my JM's stayed with me because I fall fast and they didn't want to lose me before I got a deploying parachute. Anyway As I burn through 4k I felt the bag come off and then got 4-5 line twists (not a problem on these tanks we get to fly) I was informed that either a) The PC was old as someone above stated. b) someone else told me that because both JM's held on to me there was too much burble and not enough "clean" air to get enought lift out of the PC to pull the bag out of the container. Since off my training and doing solos, I have never had any problems.
  16. I think you guys looked at this one too critically. dy/dx = x + y , now multiply each side by dx so you have dy = xdx + ydx , now integrate y = x^2/2 + yx , now solve for y y - yx = (x^2)/2 y(1-x)=(x^2)/2 y = ((x^2)/2)/(1-x),
  17. I own a '96 GS500. I am 6'2" and weigh 250lbs, its a tad small but I can out accelerate almost any car I want. (I think it has a 13-14sec 1/4 mile) The engine revs alot on the highway, doing 70mph the tach is sitting at 6,000rpm. But I have easily gotten into triple digits. They are great bikes, and can be found for around $1500 with low miles. The only big difference between the Ninja500 and the GS500 is that the Ninja500 has farrings and a radiator whereas only the '04 GS500s have farrings and no radiator. (but for a first bike try not to get something with brand new shiny fairings) for more info on the GS500 check out www.gstwins.com
  18. Hey how about working at target and someone returning a gallon of milk because it "went bad" that was almost empty!!!!!
  19. Hah, I thought about just returning the postage paid envelope, but not with a brick attatched. good one
  20. Well how about this? I keep getting returned email that I never sent out which I think someone is using my email as a return email. I have the IP address from the email but I cant figure out how to trace where its coming from.
  21. I also am in a similar situation. Nav 280main and I'm 255lbs. I was playing with the fronts on my last jump and I pulled down as hard as I could on one riser and I got maybe a 45degree turn before I just coulden't hold it anymore. with being so heavy and having such a huge canopy above you its going to be hard to do radical turns. Also on my last jump I pulled at 6k just to play with the canopy and I saw a tandem open maybe 500 feet below and 1000+ away from me. So I burried a toggle (one side down to my waist) and did 3-4 spirals, then looked and it didn't seem like I budged on altitude maybe got down a hundred feet or so.
  22. I am in a company right now who is outsourcing engineering jobs to India, and all I can say is it is going to be very difficult and there are many many difficulties in sending jobs overseas. (Alot of time delay - up to 2 days from something being sent to it being reviewed) Electrical engineers can be assured jobs if they work for government contracting agencies because no government work can be viewed by someone who is not a US citizen. I'm not worried. (I've got 1.5yrs before I graduate with my BSEE) (heres an example of the time delay) I need a "indian" engineer to give me a drawing for a customer I just talked to. So I send it out. 2 days later I get a response. I review it for a day, make changes and send it back (another 2 days) then it takes me 2 days to get it back. Then it needs to be tested.... another 2 days. etc. it just makes a real hassle for something that could easily be done in a day or two "here" will take up to a few weeks because of outsourcing.
  23. Well I started working in a lab making prescription glasses. As a perk I got a pair of free safetly glasses, and they were ground with no prescription (I have 20/20 vision). But after I wear them for a little while my eyes "hurt." is this normal? It doesn't appear to have any prescription, and it was checked many times throughout the lab making sure its for 20/20 vision. I guess my question is if anyone has worn a prescription that is just a tad off if it hurt your eyes, or even when you got the correct prescription glasses did they hurt for a little while until you got used to them? Thanks.
  24. I remember reading somewhere that for a few pro jumpers within 25 miles of the DZ it would be $2000-$3000
  25. I did my front flip by basically acting like I was trying to punch myself in my stomach and curl forward at the same time. So far everytime I try to do a frontflip I always end up flying on my back because I have long legs and dont realise you have to kick your butt on the other half (otherwise your legs hit the Relative wind and stops your rotation) good for other things but not for a checkdive. So if you end up on your back you can 1. Try to tuck your feet in and finish off the flip. 2. Roll over. But yes its similar to doing one underwater.
