  1. If the canopy is still in good condition, you can expect the get another 1500-2000 jumps out of it. Just replace the line set every 500-600 jumps and that all there is to it
  2. a buddy and I did something similar. The day after a really great party at mutual friends house we went back to the "scene of the crime" to see who had survived. when we got there no one was there and the place was still a wreck. So as quickly as we could we cleaned the place so that you could not tell that there had ever been a huge party there the night before. Then we left. We never did tell the owner who had cleaned his place. It was kind of cool watching him rack his brain on that one for months to follow. After a while he just decided that the cleaning fairy had done it.
  3. Let me fist start by saying that the mistake that started this is unacceptable and should not have happened. I only hope that the rigger who made the mistake learns from it. However, Once again I'm forced to say, If you want something done right, do it your self. If you will not do it your self, then why? O.K perhaps your very new to the sport and have many other things going on like surviving exit to landing but if you've been in the sport for any length of time and you still Know nothing, then IMO there is no excuse. Are you afraid that you might make a mistake? If you ALLOW someone else to make a mistake, who's mistake is it really? How can you hold someone else to a higher standard than you would hold your self to? This is your life I'm talking about. Is rigging too much of a pain in the ass for you learn? It anin't rocket surgery. It does not require years of schooling or hundreds of thousands of dollars for tuition. If you can't be bothered to take the time to learn even the basics then clearly you are unwilling to take responsibility for your own life. I began rigging to save my own life, not to make money. It just worked out that way. If I blow it packing my reserve and I go in, I have no else to blame but myself. I can accept that. What I don't want to accept is the guilt of killing someone else but thats the risk I take. You as the customer are risking that I don't kill you. Kind of a foolish risk wouldn't you say? I don't mean to say that I have a habit of making rigging mistakes on gear but I have made them, and most likely will again. If I must make another mistake, my only hope is that it's minor like the one that started this thread. To er is human, to believe that others are perfect is just plain stupid. If you don't have the guts to learn the art of rigging and ensure your own survival, then you must accept that some one else's actions may kill and then really, who's responsibility is that I'm sure this view is not one that most want to hear from a rigger but it is the truth.     I think your referring to the latest generation of "senior" jumpers. Most of the REAL senior jumpers that I know in that area did not go in. Granted a few did, but most didn't and those that didn't are still alive and kicking. They just faded away long before you appeared. One day you will fade away (if your lucky) and the newbies will have no idea who you were either.
  5. This is no such thing a "soft 3 rings" Quote Well um.... actually there was a "soft D-ring" situation that involved some forged metal D-rings. These "soft" D-rings were deforming into shapes that could have prevented the large ring on the riser from passing through. Ease up on the Phreez

Actually, it looks like serial #6873, to be exact It looks like the rings are right about where we like them to be- right between the top of your femur and the top of your pelvis. It wouldn't feel too good to have a ring sitting right on top of a bone, now would it?

  10. Yep. I once repcked a racer that had (in my opinion) three things wrong with it that would have killed the jumper if he had tryed to use the reserve. First, the pop top refused to launch after pulling the handle. (Thats a biggie) The P/C remained compressed and prevented any of the flaps from opening. With some effort, I managed to pull on he P/C to get it to release. This was in part because the rigger before me had somehow managed to capture a great deal of canopy material in the closing loops of the pop top. Next peice of black death was that the rigger before me had pulled all the P/C material down towards the base of the spring and while compressing the spring, shoved all the P/C material up the bottom of the spring and into the coils. Hence the other reasons why the P/C could not launch and most likley would have prevented the P/C from inflating. The only reason I can think of why any one would do that is to hide the P/C material. Clearly there are better ways of doing that The last piece of black death was that some one had for some reason removed he guide ring from one of the reserve risers and replaced it with a weak welded (guide rings must be forged) replacement. If the welded ring had beedn placed under a high load such as opening shock, it undoubtly would have failed resulting in loss of that brake line, possibly causing the slider to hang up, and resulting in the jumper spining in. Needless to say, the jumper was not pleased to hear about all these things wrong with his rig. I contcted the rigger who made these mistakes and I came to find that he is one of the big muckety mucks in his country and actually sits (or did back then) as the head on that countrys rigging body. Sadly when I mentioned these mistakes to the rigger who made them, He was, (oh how shall I say this), A PRICK and he accepted no responsibilty for his mistakes. No I will not tell you his name so don't bother asking but I will say that he lives and works on a cold rainy island some where in the north atlantic.
  11. As I said, I over simplified, and clearly that statement does not apply to every one I have met or performed work for. But there are plenty of folks out there who are just "too busy" to give it even a moments thought and yet often times these same people are all too eager to bitch and complain about something they know next to nothing about . And lets not forget about the others, for whom rigging is simply "beneath them." These are the people I was reffering to. Look what you did. You got me all worked up and ranting. Sorry about that
  12. I think that PDs pull test is more of a way to avoid liabilty. Example, " well your honor, the rigger in question clearly did not follow the manufactures instructions and perform the pull test while packing this virtually brand new reserve parachute nor did the rigger pack said parachute it in an enviroment containing a humidity factor of less than blaa blaa blaa...Therefore, we can not be held responsible. And for that reason and that reason only, I do it

  14. Sorry to hear about you junk. First you have to decide how big a problem it is because if you need to have the harness adjusted, it's going to cost you. It means haveing the entire main lift web re-worked. Personnaly, I wouldn't worry too much unless the chest strap is hiting you in the neck or if you having trouble reaching the toggles. Humm... Seems that the r on my keyboard doesn't like to work.
  15. (FAA usually does'nt reissue tickets one they pull them. It tends to be a permenant action.) Not completely true. I know of one rigger who had his ticket pulled and he got it back some time later. I don't remember what hoops he had to jump through to get it back but he did manage it. My advice to every one is if you have questions about what has taken place inside your reserve container then maybe you need to take a more active role in learning what needs to be learned so that you can do it your self. Remember the old saying, if you want something done right do it your self. I am always amazed when a customer comes to me and says (in not so many words), I can't be bothered to take the time/ figure out how to save my own life. Will you please do it for me? A bit over simplified I know but then again.....

  17. its possible to do that with the rig assemled, im not quite awake right now so i cant remember exactly HOW to get it that way, but i know i see it all the time when packing rental and student gear. (i think its just the rig passed inbetween the risers.) on mains i just pop that sides cutaway cable and flip the riser, thats why i cant remember right now without a rig infront of me Sorry but your mistaken. There is no way to get one brake line wrapped around a rear riser group of a reserve without entangleing the other side in exactly the same way. On a main, it's possible because the risers can cut away from the three rings and can be hooked up incorrectly. The mistake made here could not have been made the same way. Reserve risers do not cut a way. This mistake could only have be made while the canopy was being assembled, Or if some one had removed the toggle for some reason such as retying the knot in order to make it a cleaner method of attachment.

  21. It seems to me that the charge against the home owner/gun owner would not stand if the home owner/gun owner were to challenge it all the way to the top. If it were me, I'd press the issue all the way up to the supreme court if necessary, then file suit against all those in the Willmet city counsel for vilolating my civil rights guaranteed me by the constitution if the United States. Can any lawyers out there tell me if my strategy would fly?
