  1. Which part of the Constitution says that? P.S. Names of languages are capitalized in English. Hi DICK Who mentioned the Constitution here? What is the name of the document that tells the US government what it must and cannot do? The United Nations Charter, Chapter V, Article 25 and Chapter XIV.
  2. The student should have been provided with a jumpsuit with those cool "shoe retainer straps" ...like the one the instructor has.
  3. ooooooh, an obtuseness contest. I'll bite I takes twice as much room to print MCCXXXVIII than just 1238 - those damn romans are killing the earth...... Yes, and the use of Arabic numerals saves trees. Just look at the Sahara Forest (and the rest of the Arab lands.) .
  4. Reminds me of the old movies where the spy is "outed". (Ask him if he knows what city the Dodgers are from. Or if he can name all the Beatles. )
  5. Well, isn't THAT something typically German? What's wrong with raising your kids bilingually? I've seen several Anglo-German couples in Ireland and England who spoke German (surprisingly most often mum) and Englis (most often dad) in public. I dunno if any of them fled East Germany, but hey, gratitude should have its limits All but one of my grandparents were non-English speaking immigrants. Of course my parents were necessarily multi-lingual (English, Spanish, Italian and the somewhat strange Ybor City mixture of those three languages.) Although I know I communicated with my grandparents with little trouble when I was very young, our parents did not actively encourage (nor discourage, for that matter) us to use or learn Italian or Spanish. I now wish they had insisted.
  6. They probably don't give a rat's patootie about hockey. Now if it was over a guli danda or a ping pong tournament you might be seeing an entirely different crowd.
  7. Anybody out there make any walking-around money by selling Cloverine? Also, nothing in the world smells like 6-12 insect repellent. A couple of years ago I opened an old tackle box and found a little bottle of the stuff. As soon as I opened it was like I was sent back in time. IIRC it also came in a little metal "push-up" tube as a solid. Other stuff - any cut got either mercurochrome or merthiolate. One of them stung and the other didn't ...can't remember which was which.
  8. Good luck w'dat! If I was a betting man I would bet that his ol' lady had more to do with him quitting than the media did ...lib or otherwise. I, for one, hoped he would stay. BTW - your thread title is misleading. I thought you finally "got" it.
  9. Let’s not indict an entire country. And they say Philly fans are the worst. Sheesh... Hey, I've got nothing against Canadians. One of 'em taught me how to survive a 13,500 ft. fall ...a skill for which I'll be eternally grateful.
  10. .....WTF?!? I thought I was watching coverage of an uprising in the ME or a Brazilian soccer match or an F1 race or something! (go lightning!)
  11. So ...how would one know whether the shoes were marking a gang's territorial boundaries or were from skydiver that packed a slammer?
  12. http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/meast/06/07/syria.refugees/ If they return Assad and their militant government will resume killing them (maybe because they have "different traditions and different history" ...just speculating since that prospect has been mentioned before regarding the racist treatment of the Palestinians by the Arabs). So they remain in Turkey. We will see if Turkey treats the Arab refugees any better than the Pals are treated in the Arab concentration camps. So far, so good considering the unexpected influx and the numbers of folks involved. I think that one of the first things the Turks did was set up hospital tents ...a good first step. Obviously not a good situation to be in but better than being killed by your Arab brothers.
  13. In my opinion the TV sketches/short stories are even better than the (excellent) full-length films. As a kid, after watching "Poison", I was convinced for months that there was a snake in, or under, my bed ...I just knew it.
  14. This is a completely different thing. This is Syrian troops shooting Syrian citizens that oppose the government (been going on for weeks). Most likely the Syrian government is sending people to clash with Israel in an attempt to divert attention from its own internal clashes. Sometimes it's just too easy to figure these guys out. A leaked Syrian government document shows that the regime orchestrated last month’s border clashes with Israel edit to fix link
  15. ...or a peyote button for a quarter if you were too lazy to go pick 'em yourself. Also, I remember my hippie friends at Star Camp making "sand candles" and selling them at Minder Binders in Scottsdale.
  16. You young pup, I remember when they were $24 and the pack came with a book of matches and a penny taped to the pack. We would play war with tops but jacks and hop scotch was for girls and sissies. Sparky 35 cents a pack or I could have a friend get them for me at Patrick AFB BX for $2.50/carton. Later, gas and cigs were each 50 cents and I thought that was ridiculous. (glad I finally quit them dam things ...cigs not gas). Sometimes, with 4 sisters and a baby bro I played jacks and hopscotch or I played alone.
  17. The game we had that plugged in was a football field that vibrated and shook the players all over the field. I remember when "pong" was the only video game.
  18. Too bad this didn't happen at Zhills when Frenchy was there. You'd have your shoe back in a week or two ...three tops.
  19. Or having to go outside and pick your own switch to get whipped with. I always came back with branches the first time, but grandma made me go back and get the thin, whippy ones. Remember when the big tanker truck would drive slowly through the neighborhood spraying for mosquitos, and all the kids would ride their bikes in the clouds of insecticide ? It's a wonder we all aren't brain-damaged. Don ...or bring a vial of mercury to school and play with it all day. Coat some coins. Pass a little around to all your friends. Then at the end of the day, after we got bored with it, just let it roll around in your palm and then slap it with the other hand and scatter it all over the place. Never did (twitch ...twitchitty-twitch) us any (twitch) harm! If we got any "licks" at school the last thing we wanted was for our parents to find out about it. Not only did they not threaten a lawsuit they would add more welts on top of the ones we got at school. Also, remember when we could leave the house in the morning and just be expected to be home by dark. No worries. I'm sure there was the occasional drowning or abduction but they didn't make a big media deal about it.
  20. Re: Psychics Aren't those the college girls majoring in psychology? Oh ...I get it!
  21. Probably rat out one of his friends. They probably had to ferret it out of him. Or maybe they just badgered him. He was acting a little squirrelly ...probably drunk as a skunk.
  22. I was thinking that the headline writer may have screwed up until that last line brought it all together. (Also, I'm betting that there's more to this story than what was written.)
  23. this is just racist drivel... FAIL ! your entire analysis consists of 'arabs hate jews' (said again and again) - other than that a lot of waffle to cover your hatred of arabs. even amazon is disavowing you... I'm just an observer. I really would like to hear your opposing evidence or arguments. I admit that I have never been to the ME for "first hand" experiences. But I am open to considering any reasonable point of view or argument supported by evidence.
