  1. US Dollars? Or UK Quids? Cos I was expectin to pay £3500 MAX!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  2. I think this means that a new jumper experiences sensory overload just after leaving the plane and thier brain is thinking "what the fuck have you just done!?" It takes a little while to actually sink in. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  3. You SHOULD read the last 3 pages!!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  4. ? I would care. One of the things that is a major factor for every skydiver (you included) is safety. Do you think that skydiving safety is only limited from when you get out the aircraft to landing? ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  5. Lads Lads Lads! Dont turn this into a school yard bitching session!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  6. Question answered!!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  7. I dont think Freakydiver was being 'mean'. I just think that a few people didnt read the question correctly and this understandably pissed him off a bit. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  8. How???? How can you possibly plan equally when you have no clue < who / how / when / why / if > someone heads towards you < spiralling / turning / cutting you off / spinning > under a canopy? You KNOW FOR A FACT where power lines are and you stay the hell away!! Simple as that. Theres too many variables to effectively plan to avoid other canopies. All you can do is stay aware and keep your eyes open, whereas theres only 1 variable you need to be able to plan effectively to avoid power lines - you need to know where they are. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  9. Surely hazards such as power lines etc are pointed out to you when you go to a DZ?? I think it will be much easier to avoid power lines cos you know (or should know) where they are. So you simply say "I'm staying the fuck away from them" Its like saying "Whats more dangerous to a car driver, a mad motorist not looking where he's going or that big ass wall which you can see for miles?" A power line is not going to fly past you spiralling towards the ground, or cut you off as you approach to land. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  10. Cheers!! Looking for myself would of probably been the easy way inthe first place!!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  11. How do i make the word 'here' a clicky link to another web site?? I know how to make the complute URL clicky but I just want the word 'here' to be visible.. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  12. I honestly beleive skydiving is pretty much flying. We can control our bodies and make them move to different parts of the sky when we want (well, the more experienced of you!). Granted, we cant go back up but going up is not the main characteristic of flying. We cant be compared to a falling rock as a rock has no control over where it goes. Similar to a person falling accidentally from a cliff / building etc. They have no control over where they are going so are therfore falling. I think since we can control our movement across the sky (even if it be only a little bit) we are not just falling. EDIT: Heres a link to a cool vid, look at the instructor who has to catch up with the student... does that look like falling or flying?... here ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  13. A similar thing happened to me on my AFF. The winds changed and the forward speed of the big PD280 student canopy didnt have enough forward speed to stop me going backwards. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  14. Er... It appears i was talking complete bollocks!! She didnt land in trees..! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  15. Found it, she called Vesna Vulovic http://www.avsec.com/editorial/vesna.htm ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  16. An Air hostess survived a fall of about 35,000 feet by landing on trees when her plane was hijacked . She's got a web site. The address has been posted on DZ.com a few times... ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  17. If i was falling at 714mph, i would call it freefall!! The drouge was only used by Kittinger for stability to stop him spinning out of control when he had no air to work with at high altitudes ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  18. Joe Kittinger reached speeds around 714mph. The speed of sound varies with altitiude / air pressure etc. so i'm not sure whether or not he broke it for his given altitude. The speed of sound at sea level is about 340 m / s So i reckon Joe was just short...? Not 100% sure on this though ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  19. You cant possibly mean the law was wrong?!.... ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  20. ? I packed a centre rig at peterlee on Saturday...? It was my first pack and i dont have a packing certificate. I had it checked at the 4 stages you mention and it was signed off by a certified packer but I packed it myself. Is this what you mean? ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  21. Really? Where? CrazyIvan has put a link to it a few posts up the page ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  22. If it got to a point where youve tried to get untangled etc and there is no chance of getting free of course id pull my reserve. It may save ya. Without pulling it you'll probably be hitting the ground at a high speed and it would hurt! At the moment, I always set myself an altitude in my mind where if im not under my main for whatever reason, cut away and pull my reserve, no matter what. I'm not experienced enough to make decisions at 1k on whether or not i'll manage to sort an entanglement within 200ft. Cut and Pull. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  23. Your concerns regarding packing should give you a good reason to learn how to pack soon! Me personally learned to pack ( packed my first on saturday after 14 jumps!) because it involves learning something new in this cool sport!! I have total trust in the people who packed for me while I was on AFF. They know their shit and soon you'll be packing you chute quick as fuck too. I think you should learn to pack soon cos in my opinion it gives you a better understanding of your gear and saves you waiting for someone to pack for ya, but in the mean time, dont worry about others packing your canopy for ya, they know what they're doing.. Good luck for the rest of your AFF ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  24. I did AFF all the way. For me that was the best way to go. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
  25. I watched a program called "Risk Takers" a while back and it said that different people hae different amounts of dopamine receptors in the brain. Those with less receptors need more extreme things to give them the same feeling as those with more receptors. I'm sure seratonin levels have something to do with it too...... ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
