I think you should definately convert soon. After i did my AFF I did 2 consols then converted to throw away. I think VonSanta means this... When someone without a packing certificate packs a chute, there are 4 points where a check is done by someone with a packing certificate and signs it off. These stages are (for flat packing): 1) when the canopy has been sorted and is laying flat on the floor. The certified packer checks the lines and the brakes 2) when the slider has been moved up to the canopy and the canopy is a sausage shape on the floor 3) the canopy has been put in the back and is waiting to go into the container 4) the pack job is complete and the certified packer does a flighline check ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------

I might be (and probably am!) wrong, but it was my understanding that if a canopy is too lightly loaded making the skydiver more of a passenger than a pilot. For example, you were doing a right spiral then quickly levelled out or started a left spiral, your body would keep on moving in the first direction but the canopy would be much more reactive to the change of direction and your body wouldnt have the weight to slow the canopy reaction down. So as the canopy stops the right spiral your body continues it and may cause a twist. why not do your first high pull at about 8k? That way you will still have a long time to play but will have less chance of landing off. I did my first (VERY first, no practices!) pack the other week and hid the rig while I got some food cos I didnt want a someone elses mal on my consicous and was going to jump it myself. My instructor found it and give it to an AFF consol jumper. Congrats mate. Ive got one jump left (my 10th AFF consol) then it my Cat 8. Ive had 1 jump left for 3 weeks now. Bitch about it being a weekday so DZ is closed. Go home, at home: Check DZ.com incase I missed anything new on my way home. Look for skydiving mpegs to download on skydivingmovies.com. Watch recently downloaded skydiving mpegs. Get some food. Sleep. But dont you think that students should be made aware of skydiving dangers before they fork out loadsa cash for a course? It can a fairly dangerous sport and I think students would prefer to have all the correct details then make their choice. Ive only ever been to Peterlee but when I first went I was shitting myself cos I went by myself (my mates arent interested in skydiving) and straight away seen that there were loads of Uni students and regulars who all knew each other so I thought it would be a nightmare getting "in there" but EVERYONE ive talked to there has been more than happy to help me and have shown no "who the hell is he?" attitudes. So definately dont judge all UK DZ's because of one. Peterlee is top dog!
