  1. i want to do 400-600 jumps next year and pay off my credit cards
  2. i do keep up with numbers and make quick notes if something special happened on that particular jump. For example I have a special sign if my landing was not pretty so looking back I have found out that it is about 1 to 100 ratio. It got better after canopy control class I took about a year ago.
  3. get pilot, spectre, safire or something like this. those canopies opens better.

    camp mojo

This is an excellent camp with excellent instructors. I’m going again in Feb!!! Crazy Russian
  5. you did the right thing. sure if there is any chance to ride canopy with partial mal down and then chop it then this is a way to go, but i'm more concern about bad spiner...
  6. i've been told that if i have to cut away from my main at high alt (14000ft after hop & pot) to grab one riser (before cuting away), cut away and ride it down (3000) then release it and put reserve. This sounds like a plan (at least i still have a chance to see my main) but i wonder did anyone have a personal experience with this?
  7. I've done night jumps at 1.3 WL and it was not pretty :), next time I will do them I’ll take something bigger. Just because landing sub 100 canopy with 2.X WL at night can be done does not mean this is a good idea. What if you land out?
  8. ground wind speed over 20 or gusts over 10 makes me think about it... that also depends on wind direction - if it is constant from one direction then it is one thing if its blows from different directions (lets say within 90 deg.) then it is not a good sign. Those numbers are good for my current WL and canopy design (samurai at 1.5) and I would not use them for lightly loaded wings or certain canopy designs.
  9. I think one of the reasons new jumpers quit sport is luck of motivation. They spend huge money to get “A” license and suddenly they are in a totally different world. All instructors who were so patient with them are occupied with new students and more experience jumpers are doing their own stuff so people have nobody to jump with and to learn from. Unfortunately many new jumpers quit at this point.
  10. Glad you ok and thanks for the post, i was interested in this design and this is valuable information to think about.
  11. i made 1 jump on a pilot and 2 on sabre2, both are great (compared to my old sabers), i like pilot opening better it was as soft at crossfire but completely on heading like specter. I can’t say much about in flight performance due to relatively low WL on both but I do remember that pilot sweet spot was lower them PD. Does Pilot have F111 ribs? Fabric there felt a little different.
  12. I took Basic course about a year ago at CSS NC and really like it! I did have about 800 jumps back then and still learn a lot on a basic course! Thanks Scott!!!
  13. my favorite canopies are crossfire and samurai (with pocket slider). you have to pack them slider down to get a hard opening
  14. I'm very happy with Samurai 120 at 1.5 wl. I like how it flies and lands. About airlocks… I think you have to try them and then decide are they helpful or not. My old Saber folded in half couple years ago at 100 ft. so I had my share of troubles with open cell canopies. That was one of the reasons I got myself Samurai.
  15. >around but I do not and the next canopy I buy will >also have airlocks I would never buy a canopy >without. same here, I will buy my next canopy with airlocks, they helps. I have several landings on video (in a terbulent day) and my sam is solid like a rock :)
  16. Katana is ground hungry, fast on toggles and has very light front riser pressure. Learning to swoop with it is like learning to shoot with BIG HANDGUN. Imagine what will happen if you miss . Not for me anyway.
  17. I own sam120 and made about 20 jumps on my friend’s katana 120. I like katana but since i’m just learning how to swoop (and taking baby steps doing this) this is not a canopy for me.
  18. Half of my canopy folded under at 100 ft (maybe lower). That was not pretty
  19. Talk to Dawn she has Lotus 170 - it is very close to Sabre2 (i think it is better, but that is just me)
  20. I agree. Tunnel + coaching is way cheaper then jumps + coaching and probably more productive (no packing, more flying).

    Samurai

I put about 200 jumps on my Sam120 loaded about 1.5 and I like this canopy. Samurai fly very stable in turbulence compared to my old crossfire and katana (I jumped it recently too). Front riser pressure is light (much better then crossfire and a little heavier then katana), toggle turns are fast (katana is a little faster on toggles). Openings were soft but a little fast for me, about 400-500ft, so I asked my rigger to put pocket on my slider ($30) and now I have 800 ft 8 sec openings just like I want it. Sam has good flare power. I jump with factory toggle settings and there is a lot of slack in break lines. With some practice I manage to land it strait (no additional speed), in no wind day, slightly up the hill and don’t run like crazy. Downwind landings are fun too but I would not try to run them out.
