  1. Stinking windy days...We have 9 gusting to 30 today. Not very landing friendly. Patrick
  2. I take offense to the thought that a coach is a useless rating. As a new jumper to the sport the only thing I could do to keep jumping was to pack. I got my first instructional rating as a coach and was able to increase my numbers. Now I have taken the next step and gotten my S/L I rating and have already benefited from it. Would I want the responsibility of putting a first timer out on a S/L? Hell no. I like the idea that anyone who might put my wife out on a S/L knows how the class runs backward and forward. By having the jumpmaster rating we were saying that it is ok for someone who has no classroom time to take care of these first time students. I guess I take this more personal than most becuase in the real world I am a teacher. So when you say that you think those without proper qualifications should be able to take care of that scared first timer I think wow let's just shove that guy in my classroom and see how he does with a bunch of freshman. Sorry to go on a rant but sometimes you just need to. Have a good day and blue skies. Patrick
  3. When discussion about this has come up the first thing we thought of was that dropping the weight on the arms too quick was the cause. But like we said not sure exactly what's up just thought we would look for any solutions you all might have. Patrick
  4. Hi i am actually one of her instructors and her husband. When i went through the I course last weekend i had some minor bruising. We have discussed starting her on a poised exit instead of a hanging one. Just wanted to see if anyone knew a way to minimize these bruises. Thanks for any input. Patrick
  5. Is you video card part of the mother board or is it seperate? It could of gone bad or the software needs to be updated. Try a new video card. Just a thought though. If the monitor doesn't help things then i would point the finger at the video card it self. Patrick
  6. I'm so proud of you. You did exactly what we have been teaching since day one. This is my first student since i got my instructor rating and look how good it's going. Right on honey. We all look forward to jumping next week. Patrick
  7. Ok so we just got done with this movie and i have to say wow. That is not a good wow just a wow. If you have ever seen super nova that is the level of bad i'm talking about. It's a movie that could be told in about 30 minutes but then they added a bunch of sand and stretched it out. So maybe those that liked it need a little slower plot line to keep up. Anyway avoid this movie. Patrick
  8. Thanks for a great course. I had a great time and learned alot. Can't wait to just fun jump with you. Thanks again J.E. Patrick Hupp
  9. It's easier to hook it up backwards if you are not watching and you don't check once you are done. If you put the bag in upside down or twisted it will just cause you line twists. If you are on a bigger canopy not nearly as big of a deal as on a smaller one. Good luck Patrick
  10. I love my wings. They are so comfortable under canopy and even when just waiting for a load. I have owned a javelin and a vector 2. Out of the 3 I like my Wings the best. Just my 2 cents though. Good luck on deciding. Patrick
  11. This week is spring break so i will do my best to not enjoy it. A week away from my kids...Life is good sometimes. Patrick
  12. I have gone through 3 hard drives in the past 2 months. Now my mother board it fried. Definitly know the feeling on loosing all those videos. Good luck on getting back up and running. Patrick
  13. That's awesome. I just got married this past summer and so far we have a dog. But kids are not too far off. Glad to see someone appreciates theirs. Patrick
  14. I had an 88 chevy full size pick up that when i sold it to a guy had 260,000 and he told me the other day he is at 300,000. No major repairs. Engine still runs like a champ. Patrick
  15. Hi everyone i have a quick question for you. I'm a Theatre teacher here in the midwest and we are doing a charity show for the dream factory. I am trying to figure out a way i might be able to help do some fund raising. Looking for any suggestions. Thanks for any input you can give me. Patrick
  16. What i tell my students when they are checking the alti is to not move your arm in but to roll your hand and rotate your head. If you don't move anything you should start a turn. As far as your head being down. Just remember the groud isn't going anywhere but there are people in the air you might want to keep an eye on. So just work on keeping the eyes up and the head should follow. Patrick
  17. The only true hard opening i ever had was due to my lack of paying attention. I had a triathlon 150 with a single kill line slider. I didn't notice in my hurry that it was collapsed. Man having an opening in less than 200' sure hurts. I haven't had any issues with slammers otherwise. Patrick
  18. Just remember when it comes to reserves never have anything you wouldn't use as your main. Becuase at worst you are going to use that reserve. Just a thought. Patrick
  19. I have a para pak rig that i got second hand. It has held up wonderful and cleans up great. I will say that if you don't have the right sized canopies in it, it will not look it's best. But i love mine and it looks great. I'll post a picture later. Patrick
  20. You can put the repack card in either side of the MLW. There is a pocket on both sides. Patrick
  21. I have my coach rating right now and i know that isn't even close to what an AFF instructor does but, there are regulations for a reason. We all have our hard decks and the last thing an instructor is told to do is dump so the student knows to pull. NO MATTER WHAT. We are supposed to be our students last signal. So in this case i could see some kind of talking to at least. Otherwise we are saying that there will always be circumstances where you can break the rules. Just my thoughts on this. Patrick
  22. So let me see if i understand. One cypress save and it's cool. But twice and you are done. What would it be like if we didn't have them. One time and you would be done. So giving the second chance is the second chance. You know you get to wake up the next morning. Smell the fresh air. It is your opinion but i will say that if i ever have to truly depend on my cypress then i'm done. Just my thoughts. Patrick
