  1. I have purchased a Sony PC101 and wanted to see if there were any compatibility problems using a helmet for a pc5. The dimensions look very close and i don't foresee an issue. My other question for the masses is what kind of wide angle lens do you recommend. I am new to digital cameras and am looking for specific numbers on the lens. Thanks for feedback. Patrick
  2. A guy at my DZ used a pull up cord and got something more attached to him caught up in the cord. So it was a pretty painful ride down. Patrick
  3. I did a big 6 in one day. Packed all of mine and about 18 student rigs and 4 tandems. Did i mention i work at a 182 dropzone. Not bad for a slow plane. Patrick
  4. Where are you going to get all those flowers to pack. I recommend going to the store and getting flour. It's much easier to pack and cheaper. Patrick
  5. First off i too was someone this scam had been pulled on. Luckily i called the bank that "issued" the check and they told me if was fake. They send a cashiers check so technically you don't have to wait for anything to clear. It's as good as cash till it bounces back to you. Be safe and watch out for these guys. They pull names out of no where and always have a client in the states that owes them money. They will never collect the gear. They just send you a check for more than you are selling gear for and ask you to wire them the balance. That is where they make their money. Good luck to everyone. Patrick
  6. anytime brian. If you are ever in my area drop in and make a jump. Patrick
  7. Thanks J.E. I had a great time and learned alot from you two. Thanks for a great time and the hard work you put into puting on the course. See you sometime at the DZ. I'll be watching that hard deck real close. Patrick
  8. Wow...bribes...Nothing like stuffing money in your instructors jumpsuit. Congrats on your rating Brian. Hope you get to use it lots. Take care and safe flying. Patrick
  9. I've only been in the sport for about a year and half. I spent all last season packing and dressing new students. Helping them gear up is almost as exciting as jumping. The excitement they show and the fun when they get to the ground. I am going this coming weekend to get my coach rating which is my first step in becoming an instructor. I want to do this so i can share the fun and joy i get from every jump. Even those jumps that don't go as planned. I recently got my fiancee into the sport and she loves it. It has been a real joy working with her on progressing. I guess that is why i want to be an instructor. Just to pass on the good things about the sport and to make all feel welcome. Patrick
  10. Someone remind me to get the hell out of my freefly suit some 57 jumps from now. The rule at my DZ is no pieing in gear of theirs or anyone elses. It's an initiation not something to punish them. Patrick
  11. Battery life starts from when you plug them in. They can sit on the shelf for sometime and the clock starts when you install them. On the other hand your maintenance schedule starts from DOM. So they may not line up in some cases. Patrick
  12. Last summer we pulled out a rig left behind by a frightened jumper. In it was a Spectre 170 that had maybe 2 jumps on it. When i went to pull out the main it did the same thing. I just had to slowly pull it apart and let it air before packing and jumping. Had wonderful openings with it every time. Patrick
  13. That's my girl....welcome baby can't wait to jump with you. Have a great week and have fun reading. Patrick
  14. Just a question...Did you have the alti mounted on the hand mount or the wrist?
  15. The new version for the neptune doesn't include the training mode. I just upgraded mine and we are still waiting on that feature.
  16. So far on DZ.com i have bought my container, reserve, and main. So pretty much everything but my cypress. I love all my gear and people on here are easy to work with. Most will work with you on getting the gear checked out with your rigger and so forth. So i would say as long as you know what you are looking for then it's a good thing. But if you aren't sure then check with your rigger or post something and let us all chime in to help out. Patrick
  17. Ok so i have never jumped without a cypress but as far as jumping without one. No i won't do that. Not that i don't think i won't ever pull. It's that i have personally been on a freefly jump with a jumper who had about 900 jumps, most of those being freefly. I was sit flying and he was head down. He was doing his thing when our camera man floated into the group and knocked him unconscious. It's not that he ever intended not to pull but he was unable to. He didn't come to until he was about to land. So as far as not using one because you will always pull. There will always be a chance for you not to pull. Just my two cents on the topic. Patrick
  18. When i was jumping my Spectre i didn't push the nose in. I would just let it lie where it was. Nice soft openings in about 500'-700'. Never had any problems. Patrick
  19. When i first learned to pack last winter i was horrible. I was taught on a student canopy. Which by the way was a 290zp. Big, new and slippery. So needless to say it took me like 30 min to get to the point of putting it in the bag only to lose it out of the stack. So start over. This summer i was quick enough that i packed most of our students rigs. Then getting put in charge of packing as a whole. Now i can pack most any rig in under 10 min and a tandem in about 12-15.
  20. I'm extremely confused. If you only have a hundred jumps then at best you have a c license. Which means you need to be under a good canopy by 2500 feet. If the jumper doesn't have his c he needed to be under one at 3000. What was the planned time for break off. I thought you were supposed to break off for your lowest jumper. So that would be closer to 4 or 4,500. Anyway glad to hear that everyone is ok. Not to point fingers but as much as it was his fault for throwing out below you wasn't it the groups responsibility to make sure the skill of the dive wasn't above his head. Patrick
  21. the way he packed you main is a common way to pack a reserve. It's just like pro packing over your shoulder only it's on the ground... Patrick
  22. Thank you. I figured they had a spot with that info just couldn't find it.
  23. Hey everyone. I have a question for you to ponder. I am looking to buy a used container and just want to make sure i'm buying something that is going to fit me. The rig is a Javelin with a harness size of C17. I'm 5'10" about 150lbs. Anyone with knowledge of this would be greatly helpful. Thanks. Patrick
  24. I want to get a job packing for my DZ and my nightmare is packing a mal on a tandem. I'm in my first year as a skydiver and had the opportunity to learn over the winter. As soon as spring hit they had me packing tandems. Sure it's a little nerve racking packing for two. But as one of my tandem master's said "there's that tandem phenomena. You never know when it's going to hit." All you can do is pack to the best of your ability.
