About a year ago i saw the darker side of our country when i was mugged at gun point and took a bullet in the thigh. I got lucky, it missed all the important stuff. Has it affected my view of this beautiful country at all? HELL NO! I understand the motivation for the attack: poverty and probably hunger and i continue to love this place more than life itself. We have some of the most beautiful and diverse scenery and people in the world. We have unbelievable beach breaks and point breaks, our skies are blue year round, our women are some of the most beautiful creatures i have ever seen and our beer is almost always cold! Hang in there bro! Mark the days on a calendar and cross them off as they pass. Seeing them on a page puts the 28 day period in perspective and you can actually see how short a time that is. And set goals for yourself. I did three years of college and told myself i'd travel afterward. As soon as i was done i did three months in the East - saw the most irie beaches and far off places. I came back refreshed and ready to get a job. Got one, changed cities and told myself i'd do two years in an office and then travel again. It's two years this month and if everything goes according to plan i should be in the USA buy the end of June aiming to spend some time as a dz bum. This kind of thinking has got me through. About a year ago i was mugged at gun point and ended up getting shot in the right thigh. Luckily for me the guy had crappy ammo and the bullet missed all the important stuff like femur, ateries etc and it went in one side and out the other. I was admitted to hospital on the Saturday night, had my stitches out the following week and had a physio session a day after that. Against the Doc's advice i jumped the very next saturday. Granted i was on student status, desperate to finish AFF and still flying huge canopies which were really forgiving on the landings. There is no chance i'd do that today. Like the other guys said, take it easy, rest up and get well. The sport will always be there for you. (Even if the desire to be in the sky is eating you up!) Sending vibes your way.
