    Polar Bears

A baby Polar Bear walks into the family cave. “Mum” he says. “Am I Polar Bear?” “Of course you are dear…” she replies. “You’re sure?” he says. “Of course I’m sure…” He replies: “No really, I’m a Polar Bear, you’re sureabout that? There’s nothing I should know about? No funky family tree or anything in my bloodline, I’m a genuine polar bear?” “For the last time, of course you are dear, I’m a polar bear which means you’re a polar bear.” His mum says. The baby bear goes over to his dad. “Dad” the little one says “Am I a Polar Bear?” “Of course you are son…” His dad says. “But you’re sure? If I had a label on my side it would say Polar Bear right?” “Absolutely” his dad says “I’m a polar bear and your mum’s a Polar Bear which means you’re a polar bear…” “Ok” says Baby Bear and cruises over to his Grandma. “Grandma” he says, “Am I a Polar Bear? A genuine, real Polar Bear? Mom and Dad say I am but I don’t believe them…you’d know…” “Of course you are my boy…” Grandma says… “But you’re sure, I mean really, really sure?” “Look” says Grandma “I’m a Polar Bear, your Grandad was a Polar Bear, Your Dad’s a Polar Bear and your Mum’s a Polar Bear which makes you a Polar Bear…why?” He looks up at her, leans in close and says: “Cos I’m fuckin’ cold!!!" 4. In my 23 years on this planet i've been through various hair raising childhood "oh my god i can't believe we survived that" experiences, two car crashes, two muggings at gun point (one involved taking a bullet), a couple close encounters with sharks while surfing and a drunken episode of roof jumping. Yep, my guardian angel kicks ass! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

    Hangover cures

A can of coke and a Bar One (a chocolate bar we have over here similar to a mars bar). Caffeine in the Coke and glucose in the Chocolate. Works like a Charm. If i don't have to go to work another beer and fat spliff helps. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  15. I use a checklist and lay everything out on my bed before it goes in the bag. And i try to discipline myself not to overpack! With skydiving gear and clothes i start at my head and work my way down. Helmet, dytter, goggles, rig, alti, jumpsuit, freefly pants, shoes, etc. You get the idea

    Thailand!

You're going to have the time of your life dude! I spent 3 months in Thailand and Laos over December/January/February of '99/'00. What a blast. I did Bangkok and then headed North to Chiang Mai and Chaing Rai. They're awesome! If you get the chance try to head to a little town called Pai, it's not far from Chiang Mai and is one of the most incredible places i have ever been. From there i crossed the border into Laos for New Year and then headed South to the Islands for two months. The experience changed my life. I met and travelled with people from Canada, Germany, Israel, Australia and Argentina - most of whom i'm still in contact with. I didn't skydive when i was there but i've heard there's a drop zone in Pattaya, one of the commercial tourist traps in the South. Last i saw it was listed in the DZ's section here. Check it out. All the best man, i wish with all my heart that i could go back! The people are amazing, the food is unbelievable and the place on the whole is magic.
  21. OK, let me start this with a little background…I currently have just over 100 jumps which I’ve logged in the last year. 80 of them (mostly 2 and 3 ways) have been Freefly focusing on getting a solid sit and a few have been a taste of head down. I currently jump a Mirage G3 with a 170 Hornet/150 Tempo reserve. I’ve started doing straight in double front riser landings and a couple left and right 90 degree riser turns to double front landings. Here's my dilemma. I’m planning on flying to the US on the 2nd of July and returning to SA at the end of August. I have the cash to do at least 100 skydives, a canopy control course and a tunnel camp. I had my heart set on Deland as a friend of mine has just come back from a month there and said it was super cool. Then I read Jerry81’s post and the advice from some Florida locals about the weather between July and September. What I need to know is should I do Deland or Perris? Is the weather more reliable in Cali this time of year? Do the Drop Zones offer accomodation? And how should I spend the cash? Am I at the right level of canopy flight that I can consider Scott Miller’s advanced canopy control course? And should I get to a DZ, do the canopy course and a bunch of jumps focusing on getting my sit even more sorted and then use my tunnel time to begin learning HD? Or should I get there, do the canopy course and the jumps and use the tunnel time to perfect my sit even further? And what tunnel camps should I consider? PLEASE HELP, I need some advice! And lastly, I’ve heard that the requirements for Bird Man in the USA are 200 current jumps, will I qualify for some BMI instruction by the end of my trip? Feel free to correct my newbie perceptions/set me straight. Any and all advice is much appreciated! Blue skies PJ ps. I chose General Skydiving discussion cos i wasn't sure which forum to stick this in to get the best advice seeing as though it relates to at least three disciplines of skydiving. If the mods feel it's better suited elsewhere please let me know. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
