I bought one from Hat Shoppe when I lived in SLC back in like '96 or so. Went to the guys house to pick it up, forget his name. Was a very well made hat.

Sorry to hear it. I didn't know Steve well, but surely made a few jumps with him and remember him from around the Salt Lake DZ's. Watching the video you linked brought up some memories and a lot of familiar faces. Group photo from Janet Gayler's wake at Cedar Valley, John Cashman, Mike and Gayle Hurren. Plus a bunch that are still (thankfully) around.

You know what happens at DZ parties. If you can't trust her to hang out at the DZ after hours either A: you are way too insecure to have a girlfriend at the dropzone, B: she is not that in to you and the relationship is going no where. C: The old saying is true. Don't take it personally. I have been in your position and know that it SUCKS. I swore that I was in love and blah, blah, blah. At some point I think I may have asked a DZO to ban a certain someone from the DZ for my mental health. My advice: If you have to worry, she is not the one. Like my dad said, "You will know when you find the right one." Wish I would have listened to that old guy more often.

I can't get over how ugly they look with tricycle gear.

I grew up on a DZ that was running a Beech D18S (N6BA) as it's primary jumpship in 1996. When it retired it was replaced by a nice supercharged Twin-Bo (not radial engines, but still loud, roudy, and occasionally prone to exciting moments.) We also had the Southern Cross DC-3 for a few seasons. At that time we were the underdog dz. All the cool kids flocked to the DZs with the King Air and the Caravan. We had a ton of fun though. Long story short, I find it funny to hear young skydivers talking about round engines being "cool" again. I find it even funnier when they pay to jump these as "specialty" aircraft. I ALWAYS thought they were cool. And I loved them.

I got to see Willie and Merle perform at the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, TX a couple of years ago. Great outdoor venue in the Hill Country. So glad I got to see them both once.

I like Cannibal! The Musical. Early Trey Parker and Matt Stone film about gold miners traveling from Utah to Colorado who get lost in the wilderness and resort to cannibalism. A joint venture with Troma Entertainment, so there are some really corny gore effects. And it's a musical to boot!

All that trouble for Biden? That guy is worth keeping around for entertainment value alone.

I also like the last one. I like the darker background, the addition of "Longmont, Colorado" and the smaller aircraft profile. IMO that looks more like a Beech 18 silhouette, but whatever.

Blue Skies Stu. Worked with Stu at Spaceland for a couple of years. He had his wolf Sabre with him. There was never a dull moment when Stu was around. Only guy I ever new to get carjacked at the RoChevron, and tazed with his own stun gun at the bar next door.

I walked away after 14 years and 7000 jumps. I was a full time tandem guy, caravan and otter pilot. Started jumping when I was 19. Lived in trailers, starved during the winter, traveled the country, met awesome people, saw amazing things. Skydiving was my life. Until it wasn't... I still miss it from time to time, definitely miss the people. Don't miss working in the industry one bit. I came to know that (for me) being a "professional skydiver" was not a realistic, long term career choice. I needed a drastic change. I took an entry level job working in the oil and gas industry, worked my way up to a project management position. Bought a house, married the girl who stayed with me through all of it, we have some pet birds (guess I like flying things). We live 10 miles from the DZ I "retired" from. I still dream about flying and jumping. One day maybe I'll be back. At the time that I hung it up it was the hardest -and best-decision I ever made.

Blue Skies Dennis! Another year...

Yvette is a Sun Conure. She doesn't talk, she mimics. She laughs, she blows kisses, she imitates beeping sounds from the microwave. Basil is one year old and he will be a good talker. He currently knows, "Hi Bay Bay" (his nickname), and "Good BOY". We are working on "I love you". I figure that at one year old his vocabulary is roughly equal to most human children. He will live to be 50. (Hopefully.) He has a very human voice. When you are sleeping and you hear him jabbering to himself it can be a bit disturbing.

Something different...

The DZ was Skydive Salt Lake (at one time Utah Sky Ranch), but I don't recognize the airport with the closed runway. If I recall correctly the DZ started out at Salt Lake City Airport #2 (U42). (I grew up about a mile from there and watched jumpers from my back yard as a kid. U42 DID have a second, closed runway. But I don't remember it looking like the one in the photo.) Mike and Gayle Hurren owned the DZ. At some point in the late 90's the DZ moved from U42 to TVY (Erda, UT). The DZ started in a couple of relocatable office trailers there and then into the "bubble". As you said, 2001 was when the King Air crash happened and the Hurrens (as well as a bunch of jumpers who were all great people) were killed. Another guy named Trent ran the DZ for a while after that with a Caravan until it went out of business. Jack Guthrie moved Skydive Utah from Cedar Valley Airport and into the old Skydive Salt Lake facilities thereafter.

Vernal is a very small town, population roughly 10k. It's famous (by Utah Standards) because there have been lots of dinosaur fossils unearthed in the area. Just like most of Utah, there is tons of stuff to do outdoors. If he found work there and they can adjust to rural, small town life they will probably love it. A great place to raise kids.
