  1. Happy B-day Nathan. Utah skydiving was awesome back in those days. Hi Brad!
  2. What to do if you enter a cloud: Plug your nose and hold your breath so you don't drown.
  3. No, I will not bitch and whine. Come to me and TRY to take what is mine (that I work for) and distribute it amongst a bunch of vultures. I will kick your ass and if I am not successful I will die trying. Sorry if this comes across as a personal attack.
  4. Yes Mike, This is exactly what happened. I feel sad for her, as she is young and enthusiastic. She put nearly a week of her life into this. Couple that won used vote generator and got 600 votes in the last hour of the competition. On the plus side, she stayed honest. She met tons of friends networking on her college campus. Sad that so many people are lazy and dishonest these days.
  5. One more hour left in this contest. My fiancee is in first place because she has busted her ass the last week. 10-12 hour days farming votes from people on her college campus. She is now in danger of being overtaken by people using paid online voting sites. (which are unfortunately being allowed, we have recently learned). So have a heart, take a second out of your dz.drama and help out someone who really needs it. Blues, Brian
  6. Hey all, My girlfriend of 5 years and I recently got engaged. She is in a contest (currently in first place out of several hundred). Grand prize is $5000 toward a wedding dress and $3500 toward a tuxedo. It is vote based, and ends at midnite 11/2/2011. You can vote once per 24 hours. If any of you out there would be willing to help out a retired tandem guy / jump pilot and his girl: http://bit.ly/oFej1R This should take you to the contest page. All you have to do is "like" Gilt City, go to the contest and vote for Nathalie! Thanks Brian and Nathalie
  7. Melanie Colby taught my first jump course at Cedar Valley, UT. (Where this incident occurred.) My recollection of the events matches yours. This was the "first" skydiving accident I was exposed to in my career. I also have heard of the riser failure incident. But it was not this one.
  8. Well that's good that it was offered. You're probably gonna have a few landings like that getting started. A jumpsuit can save you some really nasty cuts, scrapes, and abrasions. Just a suggestion! Again, Congrats! Have fun and be safe.
  9. Congratulations on your first jump! They will get better from here. On a side note: I know it is hot in Texas this time of year, but a jump suit will help protect you from some of those rough landings. Kinda surprised they didn't provide you with one...
  10. Texas is a great place to live. Lots of jobs, good cost of living. Texas is a very diverse and multicultural state. There are plenty of people to represent any political or philosophical ideal. I appreciate the fact that the laws in Texas are strongly upheld (for the most part), also the fact that people are free to believe as they wish. (Even Christians and Conservatives, who seem to be under attack as much as any other group these days.)
  11. You have real talent. A way with words, and the ability to express them through your drawings. Keep them coming! I posted "anonymously" on your blog, submit to Parachutist. So many newcomers to the sport will relate to your feelings. Best of luck to you in your student program.
  12. This would have been a fine tribute to those lost on 9/11/01. Hope that plenty of people show up to see them locally. Obtrusive government angers me at all times.

  14. Blue Skies Dennis, one of my very favorite people of all time.
  15. With your experience I think you did the right thing. Right now you lack situational awareness. You took positive action based on your training and walked away. One day when you are more aware and experienced you may be able to fix problems you would have cutaway as a student. ( I had a couple of low speed partial malfunctions that I probably could have fixed. ) Remember, there are some that are just BAD! There are things you can't fix, and there is no point in burning altitude when you can get a canopy over your head. Many people come to grief trying to fix things until time runs out. Fewer have been hurt by performing proper emergency procedures in a questionable situation.
  16. I am also glad that these books are not being bastardized into a TV miniseries or Movie. I really loved the first 4. (Gunslinger, Drawing of the Three, Wastelands, Wizard and Glass.) Wizard and Glass was my favorite of all of them. I was increasingly disappointed in the last books. Don't know if he felt rushed to get them out and finish the series...?
  17. I just cancelled my Netflix. I am disappointed with the selection they have to stream, (lots of B-movies and the like) and I don't find myself using the mail option enough to make it worthwhile anymore.
  18. Blue Skies Ash! For the brief time I knew Ash he was a great guy to have around. He came down to organize and shoot video at the Mustang Beach Boogie a couple years ago. It was during that boogie that Peter G. was killed, and Ash was a real asset to us in getting through that incident and making the boogie a success despite all of the bad things that happened. So sorry to hear he is gone.
  19. LOL, Same guy just responded to one of my classifieds. Except this time he was from Texas, not Vancouver. Exact same inquiry, only the place was changed.

  21. Skydive Utah in Erda, and Skydive Ogden. Both are great, both offer turbine aircraft and fantastic views. You will find nice people to jump with at both dz's. So IMO, it comes down to convenience, prices, etc... I am a bit biased toward Skydive Utah, as it is my home DZ. Also I prefer the uncongested area and uncontrolled airport there vs. the congested area and tower controlled airport at Ogden.
  22. About 9 years ago I looked into going to work in Guam. Seems to me they were using a Bandeirante as a jump ship. Edited to add: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u81B85ilqT0 Looks like yer bandit there.
