  2. Roger was D7600 and MFFI-129. His bio from the US Army Operational Tester's Hall of Fame is below: http://www.otc.army.mil/Hall%20of%20Fame/pickett.htm To say that Roger was a "unique" individual is an incredible understatement, used intentionally in the hopes that those that did not know him might hear some stories from those that did. Roger had been battling throat cancer for several years. Not knowing what the future held for his jump career becaus of upcoming treatments, Roger consciously made his last jump at the SOG reunion at Raeford in 2004. He filmed the formation, and after opening, flew off by himself and cut his main canopy away. He landed his reserve in the pit, took off his gear, and gave it to Alan, the son of a longtime friend, on the spot. I am glad I was there to watch it all. BSBD Roger. Arrive Safely John

  4. I have a friend that owns a local coffee bar, and she hosts open mic nigh twice a month. My two friends and I that are trying to play out regularly have performed there about four times - three open mics and one gig (we have another gig there in a couple of weeks). They are very different events - music from soup to nuts. Some good, some bad (guitars out of tune, voices off key, etc.) but you will always be surprised by someone that you will enjoy. Twice our appearance at open mic turned into a jam . . . one guy who brought percssion instruments played with us on a couple of songs which was great. Another time we meshed with pieces of two other bands to play CSN&Y's "O-H-I-O." The bass player was rocking back and forth and looking atme with a grin singing the backing vocal: "four dead in Ohio.' It was fun. In our previous band (a bit larger), we were without a drummer one night and another band member's friend joined us without ever having played with us before. He did great and made our night even cooler. Another time our bass player was double-booked, so our guitarist walked through all the songs the night before our gig with a guitarist who plays bass as a second instrument - he was outstanding. Spontanaeity and music go well together. Arrive Safely John

  11. The new requirement applies to time between Coach Rating and AFFIRC only; the other rating requirements remain the same. Arrive Safely John
  12. The one year clock starts when the Coach Rating is issued. From the date the Coach Rating is issued, a Candidate must wait one year (and complete the other experience requirements on the AFF Proficiency Card) before he can attend the AFFIRC. It's a "time as a Coach" requirement, not a "time in sport" requirement. Arrive Safely John

  20. I frequented the same bar that Loy did in Tucson during my trips there - owned by a mutual friend. I got to know Loy over the last few years and I am saddened by his death. My condolences and prayers go out to the family. Loy was one of the original 13 Golden Knights and a longtime skydiving competitor. Arrive Safely John
