  11. The Optimum is not made of F-111 (0-3 cfm). It is made of a PD proprietary low bulk material that is also very strong. The ribs and bottom skin of the Pulse main are made of the same material. Arrive Safely John

  15. Yup - that's one of them. The exit and deployment were surprisingly smooth, but they did not show the "landing" in the video. Arrive Safely John
  16. It was a fantastic weekend! 27 total participants made 337 jumps over three days. It was a huge success and we are looking forward to seeing how some of our participants peform at Nationals in two weeks. Best of luck to you all. Check out the pictures on the Facebook page! Next up - an early winter event a bit farther south. Stay tuned for details . . . Arrive Safely John
  17. Third video of a "trandem" that I have seen. First one in which the students were side by side. I would guess that someone set his drogue from inside the airplane, similar to an IAD deployment. Arrive Safely John

  23. I have never jumped a Pulse - it's actually on my list because I am curious as to how the design performs compared to the Silhouette, on which have have over 1200 jumps. The Silhouette has been around since 1997, which puts the design at 1995 or 1996. It was aimed a a particular segment of the market as an easy to fly "all-around" canopy that had the advantages hybrid construction using a mix of higher performance Zero P and 0-3 cfm fabric making it easy to pack. The design was so good that they started building it with a more docile trim and in even square footage sizes and called it a "Navigator." The first one I jumped - about 200 jumps - had Dacron lines. When it was replaced by another one with Spectra microline the increase in performance was noticeable. Over 1000 of my Silhouette jumps were on a canopy loaded at about 1.45 to 1. The Pulse came out in 2008 (I think), which puts the design at 2006 or 2007. It is an advanced hybrid, using Zero P on top and ribs/bottom skin made of the proprietary low-bilk material they use in their Optimum Reserve. It also uses Vectran lines, which hold their trim much better than Spectra, although they don't last quite as long. I have watched the videos of openings and landings here. I like what I see. The Pulse was certainly aimed at the same segment of the market, but has not necessarily "replaced" the Silhouette. This is typical of PD when a new canopy comes out aimed at a segment of the market that already has a canopy to satisfy it. The Storm and the Spectre are other examples of that. Your decision will balance the fact that the Silhouette has proven itself as a fantastic canopy for its purpose, against the fact that modern design and materials have gone into designing the Pulse. Have fun! Arrive Safely John
