  1. well it's not the greatest picture of my wings...but it's still cool. by the way, it's identical in color scheme to my first wings, just a wee bit smaller.
  2. The CrW dogs do the same thing, but of course, we know that they represent the REALLY dark side! (can't remember my 4 stack number or I'd put it)
  3. I went with new custom container, new reserve, new cypres, used main. it got me through my first 2.5 years in the sport, and I got decent money when I sold it. used rigs are much harder to sell when you're the second owner, ya know?
  4. their website has pictures and ordering info on it now. clickity-click
  5. plenty of people deploy with left hand Yes. Their reserve. I've also had/seen a couple of rigs modified for left hand deployment. Shoulder issues. Even one for a one armed man! A guy at our DZ dislocated his right shoulder during a dive and reached around and pulled with his left. He now has his rig modded so the PC is on the left. a guy named me did that twice too, but I decided to get my shoulder fixed and left my rig alone.
  6. don't forget surgical tools--I had to learn how to do everything right handed to survive that rotation. but the best comment I ever got, after a case, when my resident saw me writing a note, "I didn't know you were left handed."
  7. Update: I have just purchased a Royal Lens Stealth 0.5. I shall update everyone again as to its performance once it arrives. Thanks all for the info.
  8. Ahem...might I suggest you ask the experts, and not a bunch of skydivers? www.entnet.org (American Academy of Otolaryngologists-Head and Neck Surgery)
  9. being a third year is great, I don't know what you're talking about. there's all kinds of free time and no studying at all. wait. let me start that one over. there's plenty of time to have a life, provided you are disciplined with what little time you have as a med student. 80 hour work weeks are only the beginning. I only made about 50 jumps last year, but that was largely secondary to lack of funding and bad weather on the few days I had off. but really, med school is a big commitment in terms of time and effort--you should be more worried about whether it's the right thing to do than whether you'll have time to jump once you're in (provided you get accepted--lots of awesome candidates don't make it, as there's less than 1% of the number of slots as there are qualified applicants). ps the cool kids don't study for surg onc (but I'm on psych now so what do I care)
  10. if you can get skydivers to act like adults...wow.
  11. So as many of you may recall, I got a PC109 for Christmas. the slight problem therewith is that my kenko .42 has 37 mm threads, as opposed to the 25 mm threads on the 109, and the conversion ring I have is 30-37 (from my old broken pc1). thus I am left with several options: 1) buy a new conversion ring, and use the old .42 with the stupid vignetting (or zoom in to approx .5 to get rid of it) 2) buy a diamond .5 lens (the .3 is too wide for me--I'm gonna be doing freestyle, freefly, and tandem vids) www.royal-lens.com 3) same as 2) but liquid lens .45 from www.cookiecomposites.com 4) same as 2) but blue eye .45 from www.waycool.com.au I know the merits of each of the above have been discussed at length before, but my searches turned up no head-to-head comparisons. so which would be the best? thanks all.
  12. as a former Calhan jumper (6500 ft elevation--higher than Mile-Hi), I can say that the swoops seemed faster in speed but shorter distance and much less power. But this is highly unscientific, merely my own opinion.
  13. You wound me to the core! We actually do 2-ways as it has become more interactive flying with the camera flyer. As to seeking someone in the U.S. World Champion Freestylist team Axis-21 is in Eloy. Thanks Betsy, PM sent. and yes, it's interactive--half of the compulsory moves are harder for the camera flyer than the freestylist.
  14. ok, so I was perusing the USPA competition manual, and happened to find a section in there about the compulsory moves for freestyle, and one of them is atmonauti diagonal flight, 360º carve while in atmonauti flight, atmonauti diagonal flight. scroll to the bottom of page 79 has anyone here ever tried this? I can carve on my head, but I've never done atmonauti. how hard is this in comparison, and what special stuff needs to be done? also...what's the best way to learn atmonauti flight (without going to lapalisse to learn from Marco and Gi)? and yes, I searched the archives...please let's try to avoid discussions about whether or not atmonauti exists, or whether it's just steep tracking, or whatever. assume for the sake of this thread that atmonauti exists and is a separate entity from plain old tracking. thanks!!!
  15. Okay, hmmmm.... Just wondering out of curiousity, WHY is it that you are doing this? Trying to picture it myself here, so please bear with me. 2, say 3 groups have just exited in front of you & you are moving to the door as a solo behind them, do I picture this so far correctly? And then as you get to the door you stop/pause to "look at the green light"? Do I follow the sequence here still so far correctly? ...Then what? Not getting "animated" here mind you ...But I am wondering why? -What is the green light going to do for you? Enlighten me. sometimes pilots will do something INSANE called "turning the green light off and turning the red light on" to indicate that it is no longer safe or advisable to jump out. examples of situations like this would be if traffic were to be encroaching or if the spot were getting long. in these instances, your pilot did you a favor by turning the light off, and you should have been paying attention to it instead of screaming "GO!!!" at people.
  16. that's because they all wear helmets and don't have their names embroidered on their jumpsuits in 2 inch tall letters.
  17. This is not true. I dislocated my right shoulder in freefall, and was able to reach my BOC with my left hand, while maintaining a stable body position. I then reduced the dislocation and landed uneventfully. This actually happened to me twice, and I have video of it both times, although not uploaded to computer--for some reason I don't like watching those videos too much. By the way, I jump a Wings with a Vengeance 107.
  18. eloy is awesome around that time, and rumor has it that you can drive from colorado to eloy in about 12 hours.
  19. there's a simple way to get around that--go to the camera menu, and change the setting that turns off the camera after a certain period of inactivity. either that or maybe you shouldn't be messing with your camera when setting up a landing, and should either just turn it all the way off once you open (and before you touch your toggles), or leave it on. pc109 is a great camera in my opinion, but I could be biased since I just got one for christmas.
  20. I've never used mine, but everyone I know who is a "serious" CrW-dog has whipped it out at least once. And I too know someone who took the hook knife to the reserve, although this one was following a CrW wrap--people who were at WFFC in 2002 saw the video of it.
  21. I'm a med student, and was talking to one of my patients in the hospital, who is an elderly black lady. I get done with my exam and ask her if there's anything else before I go, and she asks if she can see a gyne doctor, because "my GINNEY itches!" (that all caps word is pronouced so that it rhymes with vagina)
  22. http://resellerratings.dealtime.com/xPC-Sony_Sony_DCR_PC109_MiniDV_Handycam_Camcorder_DCR_PC109~Z-60611~ShipId-G~S-2~CT-4~PG-1~SRID-3890812ec3f87eed5819f7d9~AT-DD Seems like a good start. But this begs the question, is the PC 109 a good jumping camera? I'm in the process of shopping for a new camera, as my trusty PC1 has decided to give up the ghost. Let me know.
