At least one manufacturer is using magnets for a tailgate, so it's possible to have magnets on the canopy. I'm curious how using magnets for slider control would work, though. How would you ensure only particular pairs of magnets stuck together, especially since in the course of packing they could reorient, rotate, or flip? For example, how would you keep slider magnets from sticking to other slider magnets? --Mark Those are good questions. And I had not thought of that problem. Use snaps. Some HP canopies already do this.

Folks, why do you interact with this guy. Look at his signature. "America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. Abraham Lincoln " They are clearly trolling with a signature like that while being divisive and running in circles. The failures of our education system are so exposed in your post! It’s hard to look past that. We now see that Abraham Lincoln is viewed as a troll in the minds of some! So sad. There’s no responding to a person that put a post out there like you have. Other than to say our liberal education system is failing this country so bad that it’s not even measurable. See, be divisive, move in a circle. This poster is using a classic technique in misdirection. Use the same terms that were proposed so it seems like they address the topic at hand while failing to address it face on. This is the same technique used by politicians dodge questions.

If we are looking to solve the problem of the slider coming down early a tailgate (or snaps) would hold the slider in place better.
-
Thumbs up to that. Snaps (as on a couple canopies), elastics, elastics on slider mounted tailgates, whatever .....? Currently we basically follow the method of "Pack it well, wrap the tail, don't lose control sticking the canopy in the bag....and hope the slider stays in place. " Snaps would be even easier and dummy proof than a tailgate.

That's the simple solution. Why not just put a tailgate on the slider? It can be done while propacking and only takes a few extra seconds.

Why dont reserve PCs have limiter tapes?
LeeroyJenkins replied to Westerly's topic in Gear and Rigging
I hope reserve PC move towards the shape of a snatch. /they work so well. -
SLO basically makes it not get tricked into thinking you opened when wing suiting. It works pretty well, but is not perfect. I have a feeling (no facts) that it increases sample rate to detect changes faster as well as having a delay similar to the wingsuit cypress.

On top of that the PC has been redesigned since this happen. -

How often do you need to replace your double wrapped rubber bands?
LeeroyJenkins replied to JTH's topic in Gear and Rigging
That doesn't differ from rubber bands. I differs a lot from rubber bands. Bungee cord loses it's stretch and grip long before the nylon sheath will break. And the breaking strength of that sheath is more than enough to resist the pulling power of a P/C. Rubber bands just break. Edit: confused threads. "They will work just fine until they don't" - that can be said about rubber bands too. While I don't feel like purposefully causing a bag lock just to prove you wrong, rubber bands are not guaranteed to break. Will they break before a bungee? probably. Is human error/poor gear maintenance the fault of the equipment? No. So yeah, rubber bands will work until they don't. More on topic, as long as your bungees were in good shape they wont cause a hard opening. As i said before I only use two. -

I quite enjoy mine, I haven't had any hard openings yet with the bungee, and I only use the middle 2. You can adjust and tighten them just like a closing loop. There is a place to put rubber bands on the bag if that is your preference. -
Katana's dont kill people...
LeeroyJenkins replied to Jordan82's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd argue the opposite. As you transition to more HP canopies, you need to slowly develop your skills and perception. A Stiletto will get you into the bad habit of making a lowish turn, because you need it to swoop. Then you transition to a Velo, make a lowish turn because your perception and experience tells you that it is ok, and you are screwed. The Stiletto was probably the best canopy to transition to cross-braced canopies in 1998. That's 20 years ago. We have better options today. Just my 2 cents. what is that option? -
Bill Booth talks about chest straps in his latest PIA talk. He mentioned that chest straps don't need to be load bearing but since people like to hang shit from they are extremely overbuild and weight bearing. I cant remember the value but it was a significant number.

Katana's dont kill people...

I feel like that makes much more sense. Though the Stiletto has a short recovery arch. At least thats what I hear is bad about it compared to cross brace canopies. -
A better way out of line twist!
LeeroyJenkins replied to JohnDeere's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No way, the pull and kick method is ridiculous and makes you fight physics. The squeeze and twist method works much better, has physics on your side, and can be done in a wing suit. Overall it is a much better method, and should be the new standard. -
Katana's dont kill people...
LeeroyJenkins replied to Jordan82's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The Sabre2 is a very common recommendation for that job. So people are expected to go from a Saber2 to a crossbrace? -

LeeroyJenkins replied to Jordan82's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As an outside observer (I like dresses) I feel like there isn't a "learn to swoop canopy" and a lot of these discussions would be avoided if there was. Unless people are supposed to go from a Saber 2 straight to a Velo but that seems like a big jump. -
Choosing a New Rig - What's Most Important?
LeeroyJenkins replied to HPC's topic in Gear and Rigging
You can on some sites, and that is the point. Website design matters. There should be pictures/tables of all variations of options. -

Choosing a New Rig - What's Most Important?
LeeroyJenkins replied to HPC's topic in Gear and Rigging
You are missing something important. You can look at a manufactures gear if someone at your DZ has it. Maybe even try it if the sizing is right. If all of that is great you still need to go online to order it. -

You forgot an important one. Website design. If I can't design my rig online I'm not going to buy one from them.
