  1. Alternately, you could ask what you mean, and not make up definitions as you go along. At this point, the poll is unsalvageable. Haven't made anything up. The Poll seems to be coming out pretty well for a poll involving self identification.
  2. As much as bilvon annoys me, he is correct on this one. Let's avoid the moderate/independent semantic argument. Same same in this case.
  3. Because it is complicated. People don't like to be pigeon holed. I self identify as liberal, but I have some views that more liberal people would disagree with. And even some that conservatives can agree with. I did not answer the poll because of that. It was too complicated for you to pick a liberal leaning independent?
  4. I feel like people are trying to make this complicated. If you believe in conservative values and liberal values that makes you an independent. If you believe one more than the other that makes you and independent that leans left or right. If you believe the vast majority of values one side you are on the side. View percent breakdown: Conservative/Liberal 10/90 25/75 50/50 75/25 90/10
  5. I'm curious to know the breakdown of people that visit the speakers corner.
  6. You're 100% wrong about this. If it were so easy you'd lose one every other jump you went on. They take way bigger hits in the course of a skydive and normal handling. They are not wrong. The gopro is pretty easy to intentionally brake off a helmet. Even more so when you have longer attachments.
  7. They did you a favor. This form is fun. Why do people on here think people give a shit about updating their profile? Second, how can you trust something that is not verifiable?
  8. Every skydiver needs to add this to their considerations when they vote for a candidate. Privatization is not always good.
  9. And everyone keeps saying "it will just be G3" But what if it isn't? What if some odd rarely used helmet shows up? That would mean they weren't wearing a G3 and that is it. This is exactly why the data shouldn't be collected. It will not turn out to be useful for anything because it is incomplete and therefore inaccurate and unusable.
  10. Alright, this is getting ridiculous. The majority of the information you have been given is correct. You really do appear to be taking it personally. I'm not against colleting more information when it comes to incidents. I am however against attempting to draw a conclusion from that data. You cannot, not a suggestion or opinion, you cannot conclude patterns from incomplete data. Negating degrees of freedom, the fact that we do not have data on the total number of jumps overall with a specific piece of gear make it impossible to conclude that specific gear is more or less likely to be involved in an incident, let alone be a factor in the incident. The reason people are hesitant to collect the data is because people that do not know about stats will attempt to draw conclusions from that data. This is a valid concern as it happens often. Source: BS Mechanical engineer, minor in math, and masters in policy analysis. I know stats.
  11. The viso and AAD count deployment when your parachute is open. Generally when they detect a vertical speed of les than ~25 MPH. What you need to do is get a flysight, it will give you much better readings. You can also put a camera on your head facing backwards and count frames.
  12. The only thing I really hope they don't do is screw with the lens. It is very annoying when you can see the distortion caused by the lens, kind of like what happens with the KISS lens in the peripherals.
  13. I have a Protrack and a Pebble from AON2 (two audibles are valuable if you decide to start freeflying, though not strictly necessary unless you start doing head down). Both are great. The screen on my protrack broke about a year ago, so I can no longer read the data from each jump. It doesn't bother me that much. In my personal opinion, if I was flat flying and setting up from scratch, I'd buy a decent digital wrist-mounted alti and a Pebble as an audible. You will get the jump logging from the wrist-mount (L&B are great, Dekunu and X2 unproven but interesting, though I don't like the data harvesting on Dekunu). Data harvesting from some digital wrist altis' sucks. Viso II included. A good audible with a logbook and computer connection is worth it.
  14. It is important if you ever want to get ratings.
  15. Get a protrack II The logging feature and computer connection are worth every penny. The sooner you keep a detailed logbook the better.
  16. Last Chance to get your raffle tickets and a new trailer! Reffle ends 4.10.18 New Trailer: https://youtu.be/GJjCdrY1Ub0 What you are supporting. A skydiving documentary coming summer 2018. The intent of the full length film is to show people what modern skydiving is and what it means to the skydiving community. The film will also bring awareness to issues facing the sport such as the privatization of the FAA's Air Traffic Control service. It will show skydiving in a positive light as opposed to what the public often sees in the media. I hope that this will encourage skydivers to advocate for the sport, as well as inspire viewers to try it. We plan to submit the project to major film festivals like the Telluride Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, SXSW Film Festival, as well as several smaller festivals. The trailer can be seen on the project homepage here: www.skydivexecorp.com The second trailer will be out in a few weeks and will improve the documentary aspect of the project. By purchasing a ticked you help with some of the production costs such as music rights (about $750 per song) and outside graphic design. 750 total tickets at $20 apiece. You can buy as many as you want. You can purchase tickets here: www.skydivexecorp.com/support. Transactions processed by Paypal What you can win. 17. The leg loops weren't tied together correctly, or it was too big if you could take it off. Use Shock cord. It needs to stretch.
  18. Are people still hating on the newest version on the wings container?
  19. Someone pulled. Lol, no it is not. That entire idea is comical.
  20. LAND FUCKING ELSEWHERE IN THE DIRECTION DECIDED ON THE GROUND. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, PEOPLE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LAND IN THE LANDING AREA ALL THE TIME. First rule of skydiving: Land safely. Wherever that happens to be is pretty secondary in the big scheme of things. First rule of skydiving: pull
  21. Seriously, I have landed the "wrong" way a few times while wingsuiting. By the time some of us big suit people open up everyone else is already on the ground. At that point I either follow the person in front of me or the landing arrow. Doesn't matter what the "first" person down did because they don't really exist.
  22. It’s not really a fear in the sense of “I’m scared to go skydive”. I’m perfectly fine once I get on the plane. It’s more the flashback of what i saw that is lingering creating an extremely uneasy feeling that i can only call “fear”. My question is less about fear of the sport and more about dealing with the mental image of my friend riding a reserve pc all the way in. The image and sound is what i am having trouble getting over. I guess I could probably say I have a small amount of gear fear because of it. I have always been told “trust your gear, your eps will work” and then I watched it not work. As much as I remind myself that what happened was a 1 in a million accident, and that most of the time it will work and I will be fine as long as I stack all f the odds in my favor and don’t royally fuck up. But still that image persists in my head. Being around this sport since I was 3 years old means I’ve known people who have gone in. I’ve been on the dz when things have happened before. I’ve just never witnessed it until 5 months ago. Your description echos early stages of PTSD. You should go talk to a professional to take care of that before it develops.
  23. It was as I suspected. You were just using terms in a slightly different way than I, as an engineer would use them. Great explanation for people who are less informed about airfoils. For those curious, pressure is what gives a canopy its rigidity (read as hardness) and the ribs are what give a canopy its shape. This is because fabric cannot handle a compressive force. A crossbraced canopy will hold its shape better than a non-crossbraced one. For comparison in a traditional airfoil the ribs provide rigidity and shape.
