Thanks Tom And Faber. Faber, I re-read the text again, and see that you adddressed my first concern. And on the second part, the velcro piece. I never measured it with a spring scale, so I don't have numbers. I can see the benefits of having it, even just in climbing over rails, or other barriers that need to be climbed over. Thanks for the feedback. Maybe in the future I will get this velcro piece added to my rig and bridle again. Thomas

What about when you have to climb a narrow tower, and cannot easily or safely unstow at the top and go hand held? A's that need to be climbed on the outside, because the inside is too narrow to crawl into. I have heard concern over this set-up. An earlier rig of mine had a piece of velcro down on the bottom flap and the bridle, that would attach on the right corner where the BOC pouch had the opening. It was mentioned before to me, that I should NOT use that velcro piece when going hand held, and from lower heights. The reason was this. Shrivel Flap. The shrivel flap will peel in a head down, or stand up orientation. Velcro itself however, needs much more shear force to unhook it. So a head down/stand up position could cause a pc in tow, because of the angle at which the velcro is trying pull. Anyone else ever hear this? Later, Thomas

All I can say is Thank You brother and I second that. The trip I met you and others there jumping off the rail, and no big deal. As long as you could balance in the wind. And what else? the better part? '98, '99 you could SHOOT THE STEEL. yeah, it wasn't even a big deal. noone differentiated between climbing up underneath and launching vs jumping off the rail vs jumping off the deck. IT WAS ALL JUST JUMPING!!!! Then something got the Bridge Enigineer involved with permits, who said.....no no. ONLY AUTHORIZED people under the bridge. And hence began a new rule......That is now part of the ethics and code of the bridge. That was the start, and then came the Rail. Or did they both come at once? Thomas edit: Names removed

I am not sure here Faber, but from what I have heard, a slider fights the wind. The relative wind is what the slider is fighting against to slide down the lines. It is why a mesh slider travels down faster than a sail slider. But, let's say, at a given relative wind speed of 0mph and 0kph, how much airspeed does a slider have to fight? Yep...you guessed it..NONE. The canopy also has zero air to open with, therefore won't....but we are talking small fractions of mph or kph....... Granted I would not be the first to take a sail slider up off a 350 foot building, but from the past, it has been done, and done successfully. NOTE: Please don't try this at home, or any other building around your way. This really isn't Thomas misconception I am trying to spread. I have actually heard from someone else the theory brought forth that a slider up go and throw is not much different than a slider down go and throw. I agree with you about a time and a place for everything. Public demonstrations are the time to play it a little safer, and put on that happy face. And maybe even jump BASE specific gear. And yes, ESPECIALLY at this object only one year later. Thomas

edit: side bar: The following reply is all speculative, and opinionated. In no way does it reflect anyone's beliefs except my own. I have personally spoke with noone involved with this, and am only hazarding opinions. That said I have a different opinion. [steps back, takes a breath, and thinks about how to phrase this nicely] Robin does know his stuff, and IS a pioneer. This was simply an accident. Accidents happen. END OF STORY. Who remembers the video (Fistfull of F1-11) of the guy, Marvelous Marvin the magician, who jumps a....EXTREME 74 off the bridge. People up top are commenting.....chop it...chop it dude. Not really considering a skydiving setup, and a chop may be fatal from (what's USPA's advice, under 1000 feet?) A sorcerer can be chopped from 300 feet, but not a skydiving setup. I think that may have been the reason for the WAD deployment at bridge day on the extreme. BUT, the EXTREME 74 swoop DID work, and everyone seemed to be impressed. Hell, I was impressed when I watched the video. The thing is.....the swoop worked. Had the extreme twisted up and spun in, we would be making the same conjectures and comments about marvelous marvin. Robin knew his stuff, made his choices, and now has a tough road ahead. Before anyone comments on his gear set-up, think about what BASE was like in the early 80's. It was not.......BASE manufacturer sells my customized BASE gear(that has been TESTED already), trains me with a FJC, and hucks me off a legal bridge in daytime. BASE was......an idea kicked around at the bonfire at the dropzone. BASE was certain people with a drive....a certain drive, looking for something more than just skydiving. Robin knew his gear, and made his choice. And an accident happened. That is all it is. He was, and still is a pioneer in the sport. I thank him for that, and hope he can jump again some day. Part of me thinks Robin is laying in bed now thinking about when he can jump again. Think of this. There may be a point in a person's BASE career, where standard BASE in not enough anymore. Something needs to be pushed. Whether it be a lower exit altitude, one flip more than last time off a bridge, a double somersault from under 200 feet, a little bit longer wingsuit flight, or be it swooping a canopy on a BASE jump, the envelope continues to be pushed. People may say.... Bull. He did KNOW better, and just made his own personal choice. What? People think he didn't understand what canopy he had on his back? Or how that canopy opened or flew? Is this why people still take mesh sliders even to terminal speeds? A large hole mesh slider with a vented Fox with a 6-8 second delay was not an overly abusive opening. much past 8 I can't speak of, but if I remember correct, our favorite Greeny mentioned something before about mesh sliders on terminal walls. Anyone out there using sail sliders? Thomas

It looks like a simple pattern. Look at the symbol by the number 9. The symbol by the number 9 should always appear. Notice sometimes you try it, the symbols change. This gives the illusion that it is changing it's answer. But the symbol for number 9 always appears. take any number between 10 and 19, and perform the math they ask. You will always get 9. between 20-29, always 18. the symbols repeat every 9th number. Not a mystic ball, just a math problem. Thomas

clipped for the main points I saw I agree with the proportional downward speed part. I have always favored slider up openings in winds, as usually slider up means taking a longer delay. Not only does a longer delay achieve more seperation from the tower, but it also means higher deployment velocity. Something to the tune that as long as I am traveling faster downward than the wind is traveling across me, there will be neglible wind affect on opening heading. Sorry Mac. Slider up also means more of a climb if an elevator is not readily available. Thomas

It is not for you. I would never recommend it, nor suggest trying it. One in the same. I can however, safely say, that it makes vicodin dreams pale in comparison. Not to advocate it (don't take away from my stash), but suffice to say that vicodin dreams become meaningless and child's play when in comparison with..........nevermind.
