  1. Sure, I see it. You are proposing that when one DZ gets a waiver for a Demo - three neighbor DZOs have to jack up normal jump prices on the regular jumpers to pay for the demo jumps and the gas and hours on the first airplane. sounds fair - that would be similar - I see it now and - get this - the FAA would get to pick and choose which DZs are subsidized by jump rates of other DZs just based on who they like better I've been educated - thanks for the great analogy. I love dem 'fairness' - it's a lot like rep "trickle down" only even more arbitrary for the children ... 3. Your point is frequently overlooked (though there is a thread on just this point somewhere in here). The issue becomes an emotional response when looking at the consequences rather than the actions and the unbiased view of those actions vs the potential threat to the rest of society. It's also interesting to see motorcyclists here taking special interest personally, though I wouldn't see any distinction here as well if he caused deaths to pedestrians, bicyclists, or passengers of cars. Running away, though, adds something significant here that doesn't come into play unless an accident is caused in the first place. Fleeing speaks directly to the likelihood of the criminal repeating the offense - so that should increase the penalty significantly because of the added future risk of re-occurrence. ... 7. sure - I pull around 2500 with my Stiletto 120 and 2000 on all my earlier rigs since I started in '87. I did raise my pull altitude when I transitioned to this canopy (sequence was Pegasus, Maverick, Sabre, Stiletto). The Stiletto opening sequence was tangibly much slower than all my previous canopies and I adjusted accordingly. last mal was a PC in tow - no issues, it went by very fast, still in the saddle with enough time to choose from several landing areas and to track my freebag prior one was a low speed mal (very tangled steering lines) I only have one mal above 2500, and that was a CrW wrap. But we learned in Cessnas, and static line had your first jumps at 3500 feet or less, so never learned to fear altitudes less than 5K like so many turbine babies do nowadays. we also walked barefoot in the snow, uphill both ways, to the DZ ... 10. He's very practical. He recognizes that both parties are guilty of just about everything and he makes jokes ($$$) that feeds on all of them. One of the few entertainers that isn't grossly and nastily biased either way. 15. I agree with you here, but different strokes for different folks. but the comment was at Quade's partisanship - not whether the joke was funny. We've seen tons of similar cracks against both the Bush wives/daughters, suspect Clinton and Carter's kids, lots of Hillary cracks, Nancy Reagan, ad nauseum. It spans both sides, but only seems to get defended one way now by the usual suspects. ... 16. Read the thread - IMO - Ron's first reply was fine and not escalatory at all - "the student isn't ready for WS", nothing else. DSE responded defensively/sarcastically and then neither would back off. So what? I'm not surprised that good instructors are serious and strong willed. However, DSE's 'trick' was a good one, so we learned from that (e.g., think outside the box when dealing with student issues - it's not all in the SIM by any means). Ron's point that drilling into an indication of discomfort or nervousness to figure out the problem is worth the pursuit. And, correcting those issues in a less stressful/complicated environment is also a lesson learned. So I, frankly, reinforced some good lessons from the thread because of the dialogue. Forget about the tone. The content is what matters. ... 22. The issue is the student taking on the WS dives if he's so tense in basic RW. He's biting off something he shouldn't have if he had done an honest self assessment. I think Ron's point is noticing the issue and exploring it to see if it's just a wingsuiting response, or a general skydiving fear the student is demonstrating. Bad on the student for deceiving the instructor, tricky for the instructor to always find that out for advanced skills testing. Optimally? Get him comfy in RW dives first - the strip idea is a great one, thanks. Then move on to more complicated dives. But...... HI Ron - It's hard for me to blame the instructor for not ferreting out the student's base discomfort if the student won't fess it up and might actually be actively hiding it. In any case, DSE found a neat trick and, in the end, helped a student fix an issue for all his skydives. ...
