  1. Haha good one Ya, I'll listen to his advice. The thing is; I don't think that my sinuses will be involved in the surgery but you never know what kind of effect it will have when you mix post-op nasal surgery with pressure change and high speed "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  2. I will be geting a rhinoplasty (nose job) on May 14. My surgeon said that I should not jump until at least 1 week after and that I probably would not want to jump until at least 2 weeks after. However, my surgeon is not a skydiver So has anyone got any experience with this? Heard any stories or anything? How long should I anticipate to be out of action so to speak? BTW, I'm not purposely tying to piss off ChrisD with this thread "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  3. Actually that would be 0' hehe -0.5' if you're going fast enough Quote1500ish is the absolute lowest I'll go without a landable parachute over my head. "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  4. Skateboard shoes is what I wear when jumping even though I'd never publicly where them off of the DZ Reason being is that they have a flat sole (any shoe like this would be fine). I saw an injury last year where a TI was wearing boots (was around September) and he was landing with a student. The student had his legs up so the TI was going to butt slide. Well while he was sliding on the ground to a halt the heel of his boot hit a knook in the ground and flipped it under his leg completely breaking his ankle. Put him out of action for the rest of the season. I don't think there is a market for skydiving shoes. 5. Please stay on topic. HAHAHAHA Funnier than the original "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  6. I'm not sure why you have to make a post asking if skydiving is for you and whether or not you should get into it....? You say you have the money to do it now that you're older and such... So get to the dropzone and give it a shot. That's the only way you'll find out. You criticized yourself for over-researching before doing your first tandem. Now you're doing the same for another jump. Less talk. More Walk. In my mind you're like all my whuffo friends who say they'd love to skydive but don't have the money but when it comes to friday/saturday nights they're at the clubs spending 100-200$ on alcohol.... 7. Ya great idea! Let's mix in dummy rigs with perfectly good rigs because that's a great way to ensure safety and training! There is absolutely zero chance that someone grabs a dummy rig and hops on the plane with it right?! I mean, come on, accidents never happen in skydiving!!!!! 8. Went from a Sabre 2 190 to a Sabre 2 150 with 1 jump on a Sabre 2 170 in between. Can't say I was scared but I definitely felt the difference! It was an amazing jump, hop n pop from 5k, tested out the canopy, stalled it, then started fooling around with toggles and fronts. The turn speed was so different! And for the first time I was parallel to the ground during a 360. So exhilerating
  9. I believe the main message he was trying to get across is that it's worth it to go out and try things that are out of your comfort zone. Progress instead of simply moving forward. 10. I'm well aware that the 75 jump number was in reference to me. Do you know how to read and make logical connections? "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  11. This student in question had 46 jumps, get your damn facts straight before blowing fucking whistles everywhere "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  12. Hmmm? Well. That explains that! Paging davelepka........... Filming a student at 75 jumps, what could go wrong?????????? I love hijacking heartfelt threads with whiny bullshit also
  13. That may be more fun for you but I enjoy filming. I prefer canopy over free-fall in general so filming is something new that gives me a little challenge and therefore enhances my free-fall experience
  14. Small format top mount camera requires B license and 50 jumps at my dropzone. I did my first tandem 2 years ago
  15. I'm going to try my best :) but I'm still in school so I'm short on time and money, looking into a weekend trip to Zhills for next weekend actually and maybe Eloy in December
  16. Over here to get our A license we must be able to accomplish in the same jump: a front flip, a back flip and a barrel roll. (Silly I know..) Anyhow, I was shooting camera for the person trying to do that so I did my first paid-for jump "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  17. Have a serious talk with your (hopefully) mature parents. Don't talk about statistics or anything, just say that this is something that really interests you and that you are going to go ahead with it with or without your blessing. Tell them that it would mean a lot to you if they supported you on this adventure
  18. Managed to finish up with 75 jumps, a nice number
  19. If the nose doesn't clear up before the competition buy a pack of strong mint gum and some Vicks ointment. Chew a gum right before getting on the plane and also take a Q-tip and rub vicks on your throat, above your top lip and a little bit inside each nostril. Does the job for me! Saved me on the last day of our season up here in Quebec
  20. No, you can wear them on the weekends at the DZ
  21. Lodi is extremely cheap; after you get your license jump tickets are 15$ and 5$ hop and pops lol "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  22. Shah those seem like excellent gloves, maybe try putting a pair of latex gloves on under it? Cuts off a bit of the wind. "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  23. So a little 9 months ago a Facebook friend posted Jeb Corliss' Grinding the Crack video saying "this guy's crazy, who the hell would want to do that!" Before I had finished watching the video I knew that I wanted to do it. I watched that video well over 100 times. It was winter at the time but none the less I was determined to do everything it takes to get to the point to be able to do what he does at some time in my life. Fast forward 6 months and I had been saving money to go on a trip to Europe which ended up getting cancelled. So there I was sitting on around 2,000$ and nothing to do with it. I decided to go on another tandem jump (I had done my first one 2 years prior). As soon as the parachute open I was screaming how I was going to do my AFF course. Before I left the dropzone that day I put down a deposit for the FJC and the 20 minutes of wind tunnel. So it's mid-July by the time I get started with my AFF and the season ends in mid-October here, so I had set my goal as getting my A license for this season. I never imagined how much fun this could be and I've had a great share of experiences. So here I am at the end of our season with my B license and 69 jumps. I'm not quite sure how I got this far in such little time but I'm pleasantly surprised. This coming weekend is our dropzone's last and weather-permitting I would like to get 3 jumps in. In the little time that I've "actively" been in the sport I've spent 60 hours or more a week dedicated to jumping as well as learning about the sport. I've met quite a few people and had some great nights around the bonfire. I am really excited to see what next season will bring for me. My goal for next season is to get 200 jumps and also transition in to BASE. I am absolutely in love with this sport and it is my first true passion. It is the only thing in the world that makes me happy. I would just like to thank everyone that's been a part of my journey so far (and that includes all you dz.com folks whether we've talked or not; I may not post that often but I am always lurking and am delighted to be able to learn from all kinds of information and people that this wonderful forum has to offer). So thank you so much everyone for everything (past and future).
  24. First mistake... If you don't have much experience in something, don't go about giving advice to others about it. Second mistake... People have died because of this. If you aren't in a position in which you understand things yourself, it's best not to go on preaching to others.
