  1. Breathing in freefall should be as natural as breathing while on the ground. If you had to concentrate on breathing it may be likely that you were taking too big of breaths and that you experienced an oxygen "high". That's the only thing I can think of but if anyone else has a more likely possibility; shoot! 2. How is a base rig capable in extracting the parachute in the limited distance that it has to open and with the limited velocity that the jumper has upon opening? "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  3. Would anyone mind informing me of the difference between skydiving and BASE jumping rigs? I'm really curious and have a hard time finding information on the topic! Thanks!
  4. In regards to the small things, does anyone else stick their arm out of the window while driving on the highway and imagine that they are in freefall? I've caught myself doing that often lately, always makes me happy

    Fun little game

Round 13 of 15 138,600 First try But it's pretty boring after round 5 lol, was doing other things while playing "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  6. Jump #12 - My AFF filmed exam. I get the genius idea that I should do a precision landing contest with my instructor! (Closest one to what we call the "beer line" without passing it). Exit and freefall go great! Good opening and then I'm coming in for my pattern and I see my instructor has landed extremely close to the line. So when I started my pattern, I was too high and didn't notice. When I finally realize I'm about 200 feet higher than I should be I start doing S curves to lose altitude and come in for my final approach. I thought I lost enough altitude but as I got closer to the line I realized I was still about 10 feet to high and was going to pass it. So I made an irrational decision to attempt a low turn at 5 feet off the ground to try and "surf" the line. Needless to say I smacked right in and rolled a few feet! It was a silly mistake but I'm glad I didn't get hurt at all and I slowed down my progression after that.
  7. I was told at one point (or perhaps it's in the movie to which I make reference to at the end of my post) that there was research done on the topic. Professional athletes were hooked up to machines and observed while being asked to visualize yourself in, a race per se. The researches found that portions of the athlete's brains that "lit up" during actual races, had the exact same reaction while the athlete was simply concentrating on visualizing themselves racing. Sorry for my lack of technical knowledge but I hope what I'm trying to say is understandable.. There is a movie on a similar topic to what you're saying in the original post. It's all hypothetical of course but it's worth watching! It's called "The Secret" there's also a book about that. Anyway, the movie can be watched on Netflix and I certainly enjoyed it!
  8. I'm not asking how to pirate it.. I'm wondering if there are other options than buying the physical DVD... "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  9. Well I'm sorry to have offended you in some way but there's no need to post in-sincere remarks and degrade me! and excaza is right! I apologize for being "cheap" but I am a student and don't have a full-time career to rely on.. 10. Alright good! It's much better to do tunnel time with an instructor than to do tunnel time by yourself as a first time "commercial" customer if you understand what I mean! Good luck! 11. Are you going simply for fun? Or is it an instructed course in the wind tunnel? "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  12. It's not completely planned yet, the organizers are looking at different options for housing but I have no problem camping out if necessary Oh and I noticed they have a Skyvan! I've always wanted to jump out of a plane that opens from the back, seems so much cooler hehe! 13. I live in Québec so it's a ~30 hour drive to Deland... I plan on fun-jumping solo or 2RW since I'll only have an A license but I want to get my B license while I'm there and hopefully do some 4RW jumps. I want to get the most out of my trip and it's a great experience for me since it will be during our off-season here in Québec (from late October to mid-May). Also looking forward to seeing a new DZ and just plain having fun! "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  14. Ok thank you! That's good advice, never thought of it that way but, knowing myself, I would likely get too eager to jump and may miss some warning signs my body is sending me! If perhaps I don't end up completing 50 jumps that week (I plan on buying a block of 50 jumps). Is it possible to re-sell them to someone else (or something of that nature?) "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  15. I am completely comfortable doing many jumps in a single day but thus far have been limited due to budget concerns. The most I have done in one day is 3. My main concern with 50 jumps in a week would be the weather at that time of the year and the dropzone's loads/day. I did, however, notice that they have quite a few operational planes so I don't think that that should be my main cause for concern. 16. My dropzone is organizing a trip to Deland from The 29th of December to the 7th of January and I was wondering what the feasability of completing 50 jumps during 7 jumpable days was? What's the weather like at that time of year in Deland? Any opinion is welcome! Thanks
  17. Hello everyone, I plan on buying my own gear (used) for the first time during this off-season. I was wondering if anyone had any tips when doing so... What do I have to consider when buying used gear. Is it better to buy complete systems or to buy separately and get a rigger to assemble it? What has to be done once I have the rig to get it ready to fly? Thanks in advance for all the help!
  18. I remember the first time I heard that! I was looking up at the sky at my dropzone and everything was so quiet... The sky was a perfect blue and I could see the jumpers exiting the plane. The first sound I heard was while they were in freefall, the roar of the wind as if they were superman! I started to hear it when they were at about 6,000'. Shortly after I heard the first parachute open and the sound was so clear that even from the ground it had made it feel like it was my own parachute opening. It brings me pleasure to think that at some point someone will probably be on the ground watching and listening to me falling and my canopy opening
  19. Not sure if someone else has chosen them as well but here are my two favorite (besides grinding the crack which really got me started on the track to skydiving). A must-view for anyone involved in skydiving (or as an attempt to explain to whuffos what skydiving is like). I find myself connecting to every word that is said in this video: https://vimeo.com/44007931 And secondly, despite how sad this video is I find it to be a great source of inspiration. I really hope to some day achieve a fraction of what this man had before his tragic accident: https://vimeo.com/45841917 Hope you enjoy them as much as I do! 20. Why are you taking antibiotics, a cold is viral? Sparky Lol sounds weird but I wasn't sure what it was at the beginning and my mom works for a doctor so she just got a prescription (short version of a long story) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_cold "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  21. My jumpsiut is tight enough the way it is! LOL @ me looking like an idiot laughing in the office when I read that... "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts
  22. Thank you! I probably should have guessed that there would have been a lot of threads on that subject, I'll use the search from now on.
