  1. i think it is interesting that most DZs wouldn't allow a 16 yr old to sign a waiver by themselves and do a tandem, because they are not mature/old enough to take the risk by themselves, but this one would put a 16 yr old in the air with the tandem. 2. I don't know what kind of a rig this is, but my only comment might be on the "left" picture, The cutaway housing looks like it is in front of the reserve riser (coming in from the left side of the picture) Check your manual. I believe it should be going behind the reserve rser and come in from the right side of the picture. Have someone you trust look it over as I could be full of shit. 5. Which "other" pilot chutes? [Well, in wind tunnel tests, conducted at the NASA Ames Research Facility, the Racer pilotchute demonstrated an 84% drag efficiency. Other pilotchutes that we brought along, and also tested averaged between 40-60%. . He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division

  7. If you are doing the work, it's up to you to determine that. If, after researching it, thats what you determine, then go for it. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division

  9. In my way of thinking, this is an alteration. Any alternation must be first approved by the mfg or the FAA. After approval, then a master rigger can perform the work. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division
  10. How about just plain old high iron content dirt? My Paraglider risers have magnetic keepers to hold the toggles to the risers. A little bit of the wrong kind of dirt really makes them ineffective. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division
  11. Interesting. When I ordered a new lineset for my Tri 190 last year, it came wth all the proper instructions for the 4.0 mod. They did however, forget to send me the steering lines. Had to make another phone call to get them. But they did send me a t-shirt to make up for it. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division

  13. As to possible landing problems, see my previous post up towards the top of this thread. And nobody has yet answered my question, "What is the safety advantage of leaving them unhooked?" He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division
  14. I used to unhook them and leave them unhooked. Then one day I had a "bad "landing. got some sink by the target and didn't get a good flare. We hit hard and sideways. by the time the dust cleared, the passenger had done a full 360 degree twist at the shoulders and rolled in front of me, getting choked by the risers. Not real pretty. We weren't injured but between that and other landing incidents I've seen I think you are better off leaving them hooked up, keeping the two of you together instead of going your separate ways. What is the safety advantage of unhooking them? He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division

  21. My owners manual says they are 1000 lb nylon lines except for the slot lines, panel lines and steering lines which are 750 lb nylon. It also has the factory line lenghts listed. (Attached) FYI, the risers are supposed to be 6500 Lb Type XIII Judging from some of my openings, you need them. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. 22. I'm reaching the age where I wonder how long I should keep doing tandems. (I'll be 54 in a few weeks) Who is the oldest active tandem instructor out there? He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Deadwood Skydive New Mexico Motorcycle Club, Touring Division
  23. PIA 2003 Storm Dunker (with Rigging Innovations) showed the results of load testing comparing re-sewn seams on Type VII webbing, 5-cord, 3" 4 Pt stitchs at 5 SPI. There was little to no difference on the first re-sew, (actually showed a small increase in strength) 2nd resew showed about an 8% drop. 3rd and 4th resews showed no further strength loss. It was an interesting presentation that reviewed alot of other variables on seam strength. line SPI, patterns, webbing treatments, confluence wraps, thread tension, etc. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. 25. If we are talking about the same incident, she lives just down the road from me here in Albuquerque. Only it wasn't a static line jump. She had about 50 jumps at the time and it was a Twin Beech. Reserve went over the tail as she was backing out the door. She was being dragged behind the plane. She pulled out her hook knife, cut the reserve free, went into freefall and dumped her main. Cool headed woman. He who hesitates shall inherit the earth.
