  1. Not that you would even care about my opinion, but here's my take on this whole zero-tolerance issue: 1) If it's obvious that the child has a toy (little GI Joe rifle that fits in your palm or even a tree branch), then it's kind of ridicilous to be disciplining these children with this whole zero-tolerance thing-a-ma-bob. 2) If the child brings a toy gun to school (it resembles a gun, but it's obviously a toy because didn't the toy manufacturers have to change how toy guns are presented ... such as the muzzle needs to be a certain color, etc, etc, etc). Then the child and the parents need to be talked to so that they know these sort of toys do not belong in school. But throwing the book at the student just doesn't seem right. 3) If the child either brings a replica or a real weapon to school, then throw the book at them. Times have changes. There's been enough school shootings to make society change their views on allowing weapons into what's supposed to be a safe environment. I'm not against having school sanctioned gun clubs (in an adult supervised controlled environment). But weapons of any kind really do not belong in schools and the children need to know this. Flame away as we all know you won't agree with me. Just remember that I am not going to get sucked into this debating thread as I wonder why new gun threads have to be brought up week after week here on DZ.COM. 2. I would prefer to put the solo belly 4500' high puller out before the freefliers as the solo belly flier is still going to drift more horizontally than the freefliers. And it's my understanding that the best seperation is horizontal, not vertical. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  4. I'm sorry. I jump at an uncontrolled airport in Class E airspace and it's way too busy with GA traffic to be letting people cross the runway/taxiway. So this statement isn't really correct. But yes our pilots do announce that they are dropping skydivers prior to jump run and we hope that the traffic is listening and avoiding over flights. But there's always a few pilots (like fire fighting slurry bombers) who feel that they are more important and that's it's okay to fly over an airport with active skydiving in progress. I mean just look at my friend Peter who came about 15-20 feet away from impacting one of these slurry bombers while in freefall two summers ago. But I digress ... each airport is different based on the location and the amount of GA traffic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. 0:3:0 Slow weekend for this camper. Not only did we get winded out on Saturday, but I also had to participate in a volleyball tournament (we finished 4th, but were hoping to win it). And then today, I wasn't trying to pound out the jumps as I'm still healing from a sore neck (a hockey injury aggravated by sleeping wrong if you can believe it). But I did get in on a fun 15-way tracking dive with a lot of experience on the jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Hi Sam At my home DZ, we get shuttled on a trailer back from the landing area after every jump. It's a pain in the neck and it cuts down on the number of jumps we can do in a day. But our airport is way too busy with GA traffic to have skydivers crossing runways and taxiways. But another local DZ has their skydivers crossing the runway all the time. But it's not a busy GA airport, and most of the airport's traffic is DZ related. By the way, done any more inner tube jumps lately. I want BASE

There's already a couple of threads talking about whether it's better to have skydiving experience or whether it's better to be (as some would say) not tainted with skydiving before you take up likely the most dangerous thing you will ever do in your life and could very seriously hurt or kill yourself while doing it. Here's the pro-skydiving view. Here's the anti-skydiving view. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  10. And what's wrong with that? Unfortunately I don't know Missy, so who's to say if she'd help me out with my project. I have PMed three girls and maybe a certain other guy I know who apparently is dating (not sure if that's the right word) one of the recent world record holders can help. It's not something that needs to happen over night. I'm just planting the seed. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. You referring to Toby? I was kind of surprised to see Gillian visiting my home DZ a few weeks back. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. So who are the some what regular DZ.COM girls who are considered good/great freefliers? I'm working on a project here and I may need their help (assuming they're willing to help). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. How do you know this? Ever seen her land? Do you know where she jumps? How would you feel if she took your advice and bought a 170, then discovered it was too fast for her at 5000 feet msl ground altitude (which is approximately the ground altitude the dz she jumps at)? Or even worse, if she got hurt under that 170? Canopy sizing advice is best given by a novice jumper's instructors - not by fellow novice jumpers. You are so right here Lisa. Without talking too much about Tiger, I have seen her land and I do know a few things about her training history. I'm not sure what size canopy she's thinking about (something between herself, her instructors and her gear dealer). But having someone who doesn't know her saying that she should be jumping a 170 in Colorado when she doesn't want fast landings because of her medical history, is just wrong. Dang say it ain't so. You're not turning into canopy Nazi are you Steve? Nah ... but I don't want to see Tiger get hurt under a canopy that she's not ready for. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Not long ago I finished my first season. I made it to the AFC Championship game with the Broncos but lost a heart breaker in OT to the Steelers. I had a chance to win the game in OT but Plummer threw an interception on the Steelers 15 yard line and the Steelers then drove for the winning FG with time running out in the first OT. And then to my surprise when I went to play season #2, a shit load of players retired from not only my team but from other teams as well (especially the Raiders). So I decided to start season #1 all over again and this time be a little more prepared to manage the salaries and personnel of my team and the league in general. I'm not sure how much time I want to dedicate to this sort of thing (many more important things in life), but it is a fun game (assuming you get into American football) and I've already made the Champ Bailey/Clinton Portis trade in my league. So until the Charley Garner issue is resolved in the real world (will he play for Denver, Tampa or someone else?), I'm left with Mike Anderson as my only real running back (and he's not even in the real league any more, but that's what I get for playing Madden 2003 right?). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I'm still on Madden 2003 which is itself pretty darn good. But I'll likely pick up the 2004 version once they come down in price (maybe they already have). By the way, I'm into the strategic aspects of the game, not the joy-stick jockey aspect. So I just play coach-only mode. But I still get into it. Of course it's not nearly as cool as jumping. 16. From Spokaloo WA, drive north to the border, cross it and proceed directly to Red Mountain in Rosland BC (and do not go past "GO"). Call your sister up and tell her you're sorry but you're having car problems and won't be able to make it to Skratch-your-ass-chewan and instead just spend your days thrashing the most bodacious (sp?) slopes of Red Mountain (arguably one of the best small ski resorts you will ever encounter). Then if you have some spare time on your hands, drive a little west and intercept the Trans Canada highway before venturing east again. This way you'll get a most awesome view of the Alberta/BC rockies as you drive towards Golden, Trail and ultimately Banff. Then turn around and drive back the way you came seeing the mountains again and go home. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. I don't think so as I never received anything concerning this Wingsuit weekend at Brush in a couple of weekends. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  19. Why do some people not flush? I was just in the "Mens" bathroom here at work and was greeted with a urinal full of this yellow stinky liquid and it prompted me to think "Who's the moron who decided to not flush"? Did they forget, or are they so proud of their bodily functions that the wanted to share it with the next guy. And is this a "Mens" only phenomenon, or does the same problem exist in the "Womens" bathroom. Go to a large sporting venue or a bar and all it takes is for one person not to flush, and it sets off this vicious cycle where nobody flushes. And the next thing you know, while originally there wasn't a problem with the toilet, now all of a sudden there is a problem, and some poor bloke is going to have to deal with it. Come on people ... there are better ways to conserve water. Flush the damn toilet will you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I would agree with you if the loads at the DZ are actively going up. But when everyone is grounded and there's a game on which I want to see, well I guess I'll be dumb for a while. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  22. Football is far from a perfect sport. But I like it very much. I view it as sort of a chess game, but only better. If people only look at football from the outside, yes I can see how they may not like it. But once you view the sport from the inside with all of the training, practicing, strategic and athletic endevors, then it's a pretty darn cool game. Can I be interested in any old game on TV? No Can I watch every play of a game I'm interested in? You betcha!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Boo hiss ... I'm not so sure I like this guy. One thing to keep in mind about jumping in the great state of Colorado in the summer time, is that there is the potential for some much faster landings than many of you would normally be used to. Aw-heck I've got to re-learn how to run out my landings again now that the ground is no longer wet and get rid of that tendancy to want to surf out the flare on my landings. 25. Marijuana can help or hinder you during a sport. It all depends on the sport and of course the individual. Any sort of sport that requires peak heart and lung capacity (hockey is one which I am very active in), smoking pot before the game may not be the best thing to do. But in other sports where relaxation is key, pot isn't the evil thing some people make it out to be. Moderation is the key to anything in life. If you take something to the extreme, bad things can happen. If you're moderate with how you approach some of these vices, then good things can happen (my volleyball game has never been better thanks to some safety meetings between myself and some of my teammates). For the record: Do I smoke? Yes Do I smoke everyday? No Have I ever smoked everyday during a time period? Yes Does marijuana harm myself? Long term effects say yes. Does marijuana help myself? Depending on what I do, yes and no. Do I jump high? No Have I ever jumped high? No comment ... Do I think that this thread is useless? Yes and no. If the originator of this thread is a greenie goodie two shoes who thinks that people who smoke are going to mess up and kill other people? Then yes this is a useless thread as this person needs to grow up and learn a thing or two about life and people you share it with. But no, if this person is honest about why they started the thread. Do I care that I've publicly posted that you smoke? Nope ... life is too short to worry about how others judge you. You know they're going to judge you anyway.
