Be that as it may, JoeWeber's comment is still funny as hell. :-) To the OP, in my opinion a "standup landing" is the most overrated type of landing there is. Personally, I have been making PLFs for most of a year when recovering from a knee injury (which I sustained while participating in a ballroom dancing contest, if you believe it). I reasoned that while my knee was finally good enough to jump safely, I was not going to jeopardise it with "having to" land on my feet as experienced jumpers are "expected to". I reasoned that I was jumping out of an airplane - no need to try and look cool. :-)

Wow. You can't have it both ways, Winsor. Do you want to fund blacks and Latinos for life or ensure they get a good education, so they CAN fund themselves and increase the tax base. No change to taxes. Instead of by district/county - the state collects up ALL the revenues from taxes and every school [in that state] gets an equal amount - and an equal opportunity for a decent education. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/11/02/how-redlining-still-hurts-black-latino-students-public-schools-column/6083342002/

Again, thank you for all the feedbacks, advices and helpful recommendations. It has been enlightening and educational reading all the responses because only 2 persons really responded to my question about the recommended clothing. I had to reread my post because I was wondering whether or not I fully articulated the advise I was seeking about the recommended clothing. Anyway, I did not intend this post to be an exchange of differing schools of thought about landing techniques. After reviewing all the post, reviewing how many jumps each person that posted and their position on how to land was very informative. As a trivial and side note about myself, after taking a canopy course at jump 27, I began to stand up my landings 99% of the time but I have to admit that I'm not perfect like the others who posted here and so depending on the winds I have to resort to a PLF or a slide landing on 1% of my landings. Please note that I do appreciate everyone's post and take them into consideration, and added them to my skydiving toolkit because I am definitely still learning at 70 jumps young. As far as my approach to canopy downsizing, I've very conservative, prefer to pilot canopies that have a flat glide and powerful flare. Again, thank you to the persons that responded to my question and I appreciate all the feedback. Blue Skies and Fly Happy!

It would seem there IS a process to report such occurrences other than throwing shit out on social media. </sarcasm>

That one could be expected. Cutaway was written, produced, and directed largely by skydivers.

He also made an appearance in “Cutaway.”

So what flies out of the reserve container and lays on the floor? Maybe if you dont pack your tools in the reserve tray it would open correctly. :)

Agreed, the vector issue is different in a subtle way. And in these cases, the devil is in the details. As far as the Icon stuff going on here, with three newly-made accounts all offering unsubstantiated photo's/videos of icons not properly working, I'm smelling either a hidden agenda or a big pile of bullshit. Cough up the details, or get the f* out.

Well, you've come to the right place for advice. The truth is that it is never too soon to start doubting and second guessing ones skydiving instructors.

So, you joined 4 hours ago to bash Icon? Welcome to the forums and thanks for your valuable insight. Perhaps you shouldn't buy any rig - they've all had reserve issues. Skydiving is not for everyone.

When I can't wear my swoop shorts I usually just run the $14 Jeans. Fairly rugged and not super expensive to replace if they blow out. That being said, if you're new to the sport, moderately athletic, and you're flying a modern parachute you should be able to stand up landings.

I mean ignore a learning moment and lacking self-awareness. You ordered a new container based on an aggressive downsizing schedule. You then asked lots of experienced people what their opinion on what size reserve you should put in it and several very experienced people said stick with the OP 143. You decided to sell your OP 143 and buy a used PDR 126 so you could take the difference and buy an AAD. Not a bad decision, but, you also rationalized the decision by saying you planned to rent a PDR 126 and jump it as a main to get used to it before flying it. You didn’t. Those decisions you made a long time ago contributed to you cutting away at such a high altitude (you wrote that you wanted to get comfortable with the 126). You then downsized from a Katana 150 to a Katana 135 without really learning everything that that parachute can do. You don’t believe your decisions were in conflict with what Shannon Pilcher said in the video beginning at 1:20, “people who are watching you on the ground should see you land and think ... he can do anything that that parachute is capable of doing ... [that] should be the litmus test whether or not I should be considering downsizing or switching models or not.” You didn’t. Your decision to downsize, again, without ever landing using only rears contributed to you cutting away. I seriously doubt Curt has an opinion that deviates very far from Shannon and Jason Moledzki, What I’m suggesting is your $2,500 mistake wasn’t just pulling on your toggle without noticing the excess line looping around. That cutaway started with your decision to be on an aggressive downsizing schedule. Regardless of Curt’s opinion or your opinion, the fact is your decisions during the months or years leading up to that moment to cut away contributed.
